I kickstarted it so I'm due a code, but I always have trouble redeeming ios kickstarter stuff because my apple store id uses an email I don't have access to anymore. Same thing happened with a pinball arcade kickstarter which I never actually ended up getting because of the issue.

I'm kind of digging on Ookibloks. It's an arcade puzzler, with emphasis on the arcade. So, it's subtlely hard even though it has this pre-school graphic look about it.

Each level has 10 stages with a boss at the end. If you lose all your lives, you have to start the entire level over. (Or you can spend real cash to buy more lives. So, that's the F2P 'rub' on this game).

But, you can easily ignore that and just replay it all over again and become more efficient/thoughtful in your moves. Adding an extra level of tension in this game.

There's plenty of different blocks, enemies, hazards to freshen up the game even though it revolves around a pretty simple puzzle mechanic. Try it out.

i'm going to file it under "pretentious spelling" and audibly curse mongrel americans.  no commonwealth member would pronounce 'republique' 'republick', i guarantee it.  english has lots of inconsistencies in its phonics, but -ique is ALWAYS pronounced 'eek'.

Clique, communique

Those are pronounced 'eek', with the latter being 'eek-ay' due to an accent people are too lazy to write.  They're not pronounced 'ick', unless you're a pigdog American.

Wait, clique is pronounced "eek" in Canadia?

Uhm thats the only correct way, worldwide.

I brought my ipad on vacation and played a bunch of stuff!

868-Hack - So f'ing good!  I spent a few nights up until 3am while my gf slept playing this lol  The game is a lot of what I love about rogues and done really well.  If only the points had a use besides leaderboards.  Like if you could buy things with points.  I could see a sequel with a little more fleshing out be even better.  Fantastic rogue and best game I've played on my ipad.

Year Walk::) ::) ::)  I like artsy games.  I like Ico!  I'm usually very pro art through game medium.  I also like adventure games!  But sometimes a game is so artsy and so little game it's just fucking awfullllll (like Tale of Tales, The Path, for instance).  I still haven't finished this, because I hate it, but I will force myself through it just out of curiosity eventually.

Ridiculous Fishing - Alright.  Pretty fun, has a bit of upgrades and stuff to make it a little more compelling, but still felt like the 90 second iOS game experience and I got pretty bored of it by the partway through the 2nd area.  It's a good game, just not really my type of game as I need stuff to be a little more compelling.

Beat Sneak Beat - Honestly this is a good game but I've always been pretty bad at rhythm games so it just sort of got frustrating.  I generally like it, but again I feel it needs a little more to it and is a bit too simple and iOS like.  I mean I suck at rhythm but I love the shit out of Rhythm Tengoku and music games.  This just got kind of trial and error tedious.

Puzzles and Dragons - Pretty good game.  I liked it a good deal and my gf got insanely addicted to it on her phone during the trip (she'd always be playing it), but at one point I stepped back after a few days and realized that everything was a grind towards a grind towards a grind and what was the point?  And that was when I walked away from P&D.  I think maybe I'd like the 3DS one more; maybe; need to read up on it.

Chaos Rings II - Only played a little of this but fuckkkk the music is amazing.  Love those epic choir rpg soundtracks.  Game runs at like 15fps on my ipad 2 which is how Chaos Rings 1 ran on my iphone 3 lol.  Seems alright and closer to being a real legit jrpg.  I think I might wait until I upgrade to the latest ipad in a year or two and then play it at a smooth 60fps.

Angry Birds Star Wars II - Yep, still have no interest in this franchise after like 5 mins.

Skulls of the Shogun - I got this on PC months ago, but sorry sho'nuff, I still haven't gotten around to playing it :(  I did start playing it on my ipad though and did the first chapter and it was pretty fun.  Will play more for sure.  Seems like a good strategy game.

Device 6 - I've only played the first chapter but...I like it!  Very neat visual novel/puzzle game mix.  Seemed a bit gimmicky at first but by the end of the chapter I was impressed.  Especially because the two puzzles in the chapter are REALLY smart.  Like, it made me feel dumb.  Looking forward to playing the rest of this.

And I also messed around with the Comic Zeal comic book app and read through The Losers, which was very enjoyable and I think the ipad is going to make me get back into American comics after being away for 20 years.  The only things I've read in the last two decades are Y: The Last Man, The Losers, Batman Year One and All-Star Superman.  The first two were great, latter was...Batman and Superman (I prefer original series I think).  Any recommendations?

Oh and my opinion on tablet gaming after all that and playing through The Room and Rayman Run is...it's getting better, for sure.  It's sort of serviceable and steadily improving as a real gaming system for my tastes, but I think it'll be a few more years until it's hitting DS/3DS/PSP/Vita quality of gaming experiences.  There's definitely some genre that work really well for the format.

honestly i have never seen PAD as a grind game,i'd say that the problem can be seen in

1) a lot of the early game content is recycled over and over and over so the game doesn't leave a good first impressions
2) early in the game your cost sucks so you can't really build a decent team until you have some rank behind you,the fact that spamming tower of giant over and over is the best way to do so just make it more painfull but it doesn't take too long
3) since everything hits like a truck and has a bajillion hp it takes many many many pengdra cycle before you can have a team full of fully evolved level 70 and worth of doing the cool stuff like descends

from what i wrote this would all sounds terrible but i got to the cool stuff before i got bored (the best way to get XP for your monsters doesn't really involve repeating stuff as much as it involve playing the game for half an hour daily) and it was amazing to see my team grow and grow and grow... even when you have all the cool toys the game is so fucking hard it's still very possible to die and they add new content almost every two week which keeps interessing even after you are in the big league's

Nah, PAD is a grindy game. There's often times you need to grind for cash (early on), grind for rank (to increase team cost allotment) and grind to level Gods. The grind to Awaken some of them is daunting.

Played a few cheap games in the past few day:

Chicken and the Tiger: An ARPG that is mostly great. The theme is kind of like Kung Fu Panda, so the cut-scenes are pretty comic in that regard. There are too many of them though.

It hits all the right buttons but is still streamlined. You won't find a real deep experience here.

Free to Play and 6.99 to unlock the entire game.

Empire: I don't think I can properly discribe this game. It's a genre masher. It's party city builder (real light elements), part SRPG (for the battles) and part card-collecting game. You face insurmontable odds, so the object is to survive the longest you can.

The game limits you in the amount of cities you can build (3) and how long you can farm the land (about 18-20 turns) before blight sets in. Then you have to abandon that city and settle somewhere else. Meanwhile, you are attacked from all around you.

It's well done and interesting, but with no defined end-game or narrative, you can get a little bored of it.  99 cents

I finished "Vay" - the first JRPG on iOS

Was ok.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/vay/id284940607?mt=8

I then played "The Lost City" from Fire Maple Games. They make neat puzzle adventures like Myst. They arent difficult, but its a time waster.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/the-lost-city/id414835676?mt=8

Now I am playing "Nameless: The Hackers RPG"

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/nameless-the-hackers-rpg/id572128073?mt=8

This game is awesome. Its like my real life.

This game is extremely well done. It is basically Zack and Wiki mobile.

I finished "Where's My Mickey" as well - and half of the achievements I earned didnt unlock in Game Center. It was an ok game, but majority of it is locked behind IAP.

I picked up Hiversaires the other day because I liked the art style.  It's interesting so far, but not sure if it's worth playing yet.  Need to use a walkthrough because it's very vague (no text, no dialogue, only symbols in another language to help figure out puzzles)

Thanks, will give it a shot then.  Anything < 3 hours that people recommend is something I'll play these days as they're usually cheap (I mean Tiny Thief is $3, that's nothing) and they won't take up a lot of my time (and will hopefully be enjoyable for that timeframe).

So, I gave Banshee's Last Cry a shot and I'm really loving how Visual Novels look on an ipad.  The background photos look really sharp and it's so easy to sit back and read them on an e-reader type device vs. sitting at a computer screen or a tv reading.  Also helps that it's in English and I don't like reading books/VNs in Japanese because I can't speed read/skim like I can in English at a good pace.

Anyhow, super enjoying it and hope they start bringing more and more Japanese VNs over on iOS.  Would love to catch up on some of the classic ones I never played in this newer format.

I bought that Adventure Time Card Wars game a week ago. It's okay, kind of a basic CCG that relies more on brute forcing wins instead of strategy. It's a little grindy, but has all the fan service one could want.

I'm just a sucker for it because it was one of my favorite episodes.

The wierd thing about it is that it has common F2P trappings (timers, in-game currency) but still a 3.99 price tag. So far, none of that F2P shit has popped up as an issue.
