I liked the ending, seemed to fit the theme of the show. Things are rarely 100% resolved when it comes to shit like that.

What did you expect? Rust Cohle to shoot his kamehameha wave at a secret illuminati pedophile ring and wipe them out along with half of planet earth?

...maybe?

I mean, seriously though.  It was one fucking guy. They made the plot to be a part of something much more intricate, and much bigger. I felt by going this route they really diminished what was a pretty intriguing conspiracy.

It was decidedly average and proved True Detective wasn't really that interested in exploring beyond its genre tropes. It's a pretty mediocre ending.

It was much bigger than the one guy. Russ and Marty discuss this in a pretty straightforward manner in the last several minutes of the show.

I loved the True Detective ending. It doesn't quite match the buildup, but that's okay.

By the end, it's been like two decades since the original murders. I thought it was pretty clear that the old cult had pretty much dispersed by that point.

They would have needed more than 8 episodes to do the kind of ending some people wanted. I would have loved that, but it wasn't within the scope of an 8 episode show.

Surprisingly I ended up not giving a single shit about the bad guys or the ending. That show wound up being all about the journey and the main characters, which I didn't expect. I was expecting a whodunit along the lines of Se7ven, but early on I started caring about the characters much more than the bad guys and their crimes.

Watching those two men have their lives changed by the detective's curse was very rewarding. I definitely agree with ZephyrFate that TD never left its comfort zone of detective drama. From all the praise it was getting I went into it expecting just that, so I was kind of let down by that which is why I thought it was "pretty good" overall.

e- what the fuck did i do to the quotes? oh well... it's staying like that

I actually like this better than the Andy Daly version. It somehow manages to be even darker than the US version. Can't imagine we're gonna see "What's It Like To Kill Opie And Anthony" or the US equivalent of Kyle Sandilands anytime soon.

I'm neck deep in season 1 of The Americans, should I bother with season 2 when I'm done with 1? (I more or less enjoy the show, at least for now. Kinda too problematic for me sometimes but it's an espionage show involving two misogynistic countries so...)

I'm watching Lost Girl s1, the SyFy series. It's urban fantasy with a secret society of faeries; kind of mommy-porn-ish, though the main character (a succubus) healing through sex with a dude is... I can't tell if it's feminist or anti-feminist, or just squicky.

There's a monster-of-the-week theme and an overarching story, um, arc where the succubus is somebody really important.

Everyone talks about how beautiful and irresistible and sexy the succubus is, but the actress playing her, Anna Silk, is probably just the prettiest competent actor in Montreal. She's pretty -- I just don't read her as a smoldering sexpot that I'd imagine a succubus to be.

I actually started watching it because I caught a bit of a recent episode involving Iran-Contra. It had a lot of thematic elements I can engage with at a personal level right now, and was more... fair I guess is the word I'm looking for... in the treatment of its subject matter than I expected from a Fox channel in the 2010s.

When they revealed that a baby mama kept her lovechild secret from his daddy so that he could fulfill their dream of him joining the KGB, it really got me there man.  :ussrcry

Finished OITNB s2. I think I like it more than s1 for these reasons:

spoiler (click to show/hide)
1. Vee is a much more well-constructed villain than Pennsatucky, and is present as the villain for more of the season. Also, her end was as satisfying (maybe slightly more so) than Pennsatucky.
2. Bitch-Piper is WAY more fun to watch than whiny-priveleged-white-girl Piper. Her last act in the season of screwing Alex over was absolutely pitch perfect.
3. Less Larry stuff, and what stuff there was there was more tolerable.
4. Loved the furlough episode especially, possibly my favorite of the season. The contrast summed up everything the series is about so perfectly.
5. This season made me love Red even more, her interactions with her sons and contrast with Vee were great stuff.
6. Caputo went from being kinda funny to watch, but creepy to... full on #winning. Amazing.
[close]

I'll probably think of more later but yeah, really liked this season. Hopefully the next season is only 11 months away instead of a full year, like this season was.

I think the best part of Halt and Catch Fire is the era stuff. I don't think the character driven stuff is as strong or interesting. The PC market race stuff is the oomph.

Yeah whoever writes the drama is starting to show that they're pretty average, hitting a lot of familiar, Mad Men-esque beats. The era stuff and the early computer lingo are great. I have to wonder if Cameron is meant to be a bit anachronistic considering the stuff she talks about won't happen for at least three decades.

only 6 episodes for season 1 and season 2 starts in just 2 weeks or so. everyone should give this a shot! you'll be hooked from episode 1

s1 was 999¢ on iTunes, so I bagged it. I'm hoping it's a good ride!

Louie started out strong first 2 eps i believe. Then the fat gal ep i want a fan of, then all downhill from there, for me anyways. The elevator eps didn't do it for me. Sure so funny parts, but as a whole it was rough.

Anyone a Steve Buscemi fan, he's got a wen series that's pure gold! On aol, him talkin on bench with people. Chris rock's in the first ep. Fred armisen. I think web series are the future.

Finished The Americans season 2... I know how you feel Ninotchka. I know how you feel.  :tocry

Regarding the kids, I like the ways in which they were "rebellious youth" since they played off the parents' secret beliefs so well, though the writers from this show have clearly never read any Marx (as Elizabeth would have I imagine) given the way she misquoted him when she was spitting mad about her daughter.

That twist ending was pretty shitty, that's going to hang over season 3 like a foul odor.

VICE last night was so good. Expose on Camden, NJ's new police force to deal with its 12x-above-the-average crime rate, and how dealers are subverting it -- as well as the continued genocide in Darfur. I wish this show was more popular, even if Shane Smith is a fucking douchebag greedy fuck.
