I just saved like 60 bucks on my phone bill by paying off the rest of the phone itself and removing some unnecessary features.

And apparently TWC in the NYC area has 50meg internet for 35 bucks.

What, no BAföG? Sugee :uguu

2 parents with a decent full time job :-/
Feeling bad about that, too. Oh well. It's just funny cause all these middle class people around us inherited houses and shit and now live comfortably with whatever jobs while their kids get BAföG, while my parents get taxed to hell and have to pay for my/my brother's education.

(I realize that somewhat invalidates my first post. But looking at how many years me and my brother have spent in University, it'd probably bankrupt you at average American college prices)

Isnt Uni free in Germany?

Re: Please share your triumph of the day
« Reply #802 on: March 18, 2015, 06:43:54 AM »
Mostly. You usually pay a small fee for some administrative stuff and some services. I think it amounts to like 200-300€ per semester here.
The money I need is for regular living expenses. I have a small job (there's a limit to how many hours you can work while being a student), but that's not enough.

BAföG is a kind of hybrid between a interest-free loan and an allowance (grant?) that you get when your parents fall below a certain income bracket or something.

There were fees from 2007 to 2013, but not in every state and they were miniscule compared to other countries (500€ per semester). Even that got thrown out. :win

Now there's just the usual administrative fee, as Milch said. The most valuable part of that is the "Semester Ticket", i.e. socialized public transportation. You can opt out if you really don't want to pay it, though you'd be stupid to, since it's a really great deal to be able to hop on any train, tram or bus at no additional cost (state wide usually, depends on the agreements the Uni made). Mine was around 230€ or so, I forget. Insane deal, considering I would have to pay as much for a monthly train ticket right now just to get to my alma mater.

Jesus motorboating Christ is Rochester rural or is that normal?  the bay area, you can get comcast with the Internet+TV plan and the same speeds for under $50 easily or if you wait for a deal, usually you can find it for around $30 on a month-to-month plan (plus modem rental of like $7 if you don't have one).

For phone I'm paying like $35/month on t-mobile family plan with my brother+in-laws.
