Mad Men S3 seems far more daring and confident than the first two seasons. It plays around with more narrative structures, and so far (five eps) it's amazing.

I loved Pete's confrontation with the elevator guy. The obliviousness and white privilege...and while Pete was being Pete, he wasn't really trying to be an asshole. That's just how he (and many others) viewed black people at the time.

There was some dude on GAF who couldn't hang with the pace, but I'm down with a slow burn like this. Great acting, and there's a ton of subtext in just about every scene. I'm a big fan of subtext.

I wish I had gone into the first episode not knowing anything. I love how Draper lives this fantasy life throughout the episode, then goes home and you realize he has kids/a wife.

Mad Men...holy shit @ Guy Walks Into an Advertising Agency. That was Breaking Bad levels of randomness/semi shark jumping...and as with Breaking Bad, I was too entertained to care

Also I'm watching Oz. I started S1 last year and didn't have time to finish, so I'm decided to restart from the beginning. The direction is very good, as is the writing for the most part. But the show is getting so ridiculous that the entire premise is becoming hard to believe. I realize a prison show has to take liberties to make it interesting, and this show certainly has some almost fantasy elements...but some things are just too much.

Oz was amazing when I first saw it on TV, I guess it maybe hasn't aged that well.

If you like Larry Sanders, Yes Minister, The Thick of It*, The Office, Parks, etc.

Not saying it's as good as any of those, but it's in the style of those*. Great cast as well in my opinion.

I finished watching the second season of Louie today. Great show and I think the episode about masturbation is my favorite by far.

I also finished watching the second season of The Cleveland Show today. It's not really good but it isn't really bad either...it's just kind of there. Not a waste of my time though, like Californication.

Interest seems to have dropped off a cliff since the first series, but has anyone else been watching Episodes? It's seriously hit or miss but I still find myself checking it out for the odd good moment like LeBlanc's ex. Also, the tits on that girl in the previous week's episode were glorious.

Finished Oz S1. Ended pretty great, but I'm starting to wonder how this lasted six seasons. I decided to watch the first episode of S2 which was great, but the premise is started to get in the way of ultimate enjoyment.

I didn't catch it but just guessing I think the issue is that Sorkin tends to have a very distinct style in most of his works that you either find quirky and interesting or overbearing and obnoxious. I liked the West Wing for example but found Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip impossibly smug and condescending. Even though they shared a lot of the same elements.

Everything I've read suggests it's overly pretentious and over wrought/heavy handed. But then again, that describes most of his stuff. Despite being such a history/politics nerd, I couldn't get past the first few episodes of The West Wing. The dialogue feels too much like him dictating how things should be, how figures should act, etc.

You can only be an asshole in Hollywood for so long before people jump down your throat, and it seems like he has reached the end.

The West Wing is a show that on the surface looks like it would annoy the shit out of me but once you buy in, you care about the characters and the whole thing is very entertaining and well done. At least the early years. There is a fine line though that his work needs to straddle so it doesn't start overindulging itself like he has a tendency to do.

The New Yorker critic actually liked the first episode but said each one got subsequently worse and the fourth is unwatchable. There is also severe Sorkin burnout amongst people who have been watching his work for years. He uses a very similar template for all his work. That being said I'm still kind of interested in where the show goes.

Been catching up on Parks & Recreations. Had watched some of the first season before but it wasn't really grabbing me. Watching the rest now and it's growing on me. Rashida Jones is cute and Aziz Ansari is awesome.
