Listening to New Order's early stuff. God I had forgotten how devastatingly good they were (seriously, Joy Division who?). They lost their way for a bit after Technique but their latest is close to their older stuff, though they're just not the same since Pete Rose left.

QuoteTalk to me about the concept of Les Points — what’s the aim behind it?
Well, basically it's four of us: Audino, Barbir, Louh, and me—DIY, sacrifice, and trying to sound different from release to release, getting more and more references, rawness, cross genres. And against neo-liberalism and gentrified music.

I do not think this song is 100% about Trump. It has some dystopian undertones but they seem to be centered around emotionally/physically abusive relationships. If this is supposed to signify how Trump is abusing the American people...then so be it.

that EVERYTHING MUST BE DRUMPF RELATED NONSENSE aside, on the plus side, i think at least artists won't be afraid to actually admit their songs are about Drumpf if they areOne of the worst things about this administration is that Green Day is probably going to make a fortune yet again when they release Even More Americaner Idioter. I liked the approach Disturbed took to W, they just covered an old protest tune. 'Yeah this is all the same shit again it doesn't even deserve a new jam'.

Oingo Boingo gets me so fucking hyped. I feel like there's a skeleton inside of me
The album was released under Elfman's name instead of Oingo Boingo's in order to circumvent a dispute with the band's record label. Elfman stated that he used the opportunity to record previously written material, moving away from the band's ska origins and more towards mainstream synthpop. He described it as "a chance to experiment with slower tempos".[1] It was the band's final album recorded with bass player Kerry Hatch and keyboardist Richard Gibbs.
:respect
Dude, how old are you? I'm 50 and grew up in Los Angeles, so Boingo was all of high school and college years. Elfman's So-Lo album was also good, though I get the impression that it was just a Boingo album without a couple guys who had been annoying him at that time. Then you've got great taste in your retro/newwave/ska interests. There's a cover band which plays in Los Angeles/San Diego area, Dead Man's Party. I've not managed to catch them yet, since I'm not in the USA. I guess Danny's brother, Richard, is involved somehow. I'd love to catch them someday.
I never managed to catch one of their legendary Halloween shows, but I saw Boingo in 1990, a year after they canceled their Santa Cruz concert due to the Loma Prieta quake. It was a great show. I'll always regret not making my way down to LA for their Farewell concert.

The entire Global Underground "Cities" collection has been uploaded to Mixcloud, so I've been going through them in order from the beginning. The early ones were kinda clunky but the series really found its footing after GU006: Sydney. I've mostly listened to those in the middle (assorted ones from 6-24) before big changes in popular dance music genres and how music was consumed made the series lose its relevance.

Corgan commented briefly on the breakup of the band: "The music wasn't the big problem, it was more their attitude... Sex acts between band members in public. People carrying drugs across borders. Pajo sleeping with the producer's girlfriend while we were making the record."
In the same Entertainment Weekly article, Corgan disclosed that things went wrong at some of the very first recording sessions. "...it was like, 'What do you mean the guitar's out of tune? What do you mean I have to be there at 11? What do you mean I can't order $100 of lobster every day?' I mean, like, bad. But it was too late. It was already public. The album was going out. So I did what I always did: try to make the best of a situation and start covering up. Put on a good face. And honestly, I'm glad the thing didn't sell, because if it had sold well it would have been really tough. I would look like I was going to walk away from something that I'd just built."
He also stated that he can no longer listen to Mary Star of the Sea, because to him it sounds like "thousands of lies upon lies upon lies. It's a shame because there's tons of music unreleased that will just sit in a box until I can stomach it." When asked which of his two former bands would ever reform, he said, "Pumpkins. You'll never see Zwan. I'll never go anywhere near those people. Ever. I mean, I detest them. You can put that in capital letters. Bad people. James and D'arcy are good people. They might be misguided people, but they're good people."
Matt Sweeney, who initiated the band with Corgan, said in 2017, "We had a friendship from before he was famous. One on one, we had a pretty great thing going. We had a great year where we made like a hundred songs. Nobody’s ever heard that stuff. But once it went public, everything was different. I was confused, it started to feel like fulfilling a commitment where the game had changed. It was interesting, I’m still sort of unpacking that experience. We all had to sign confidentiality agreements, so I can’t really talk about it."

The UK musician says he has “no idea” how the Detroit hardcore collective obtained archival vocal takes for “FT. FRANK TURNER”
Earlier this week, Detroit hardcore collective the Armed shared a new song called “FT. FRANK TURNER” as part of the Adult Swim Singles program. On Facebook, the Armed wrote that the track is “riddled with uncleared samples.” After the song came out, it caught the eye of UK musician Frank Turner, who said it contains archival vocal recordings of his and that he has “no idea how they got hold of it.”
“O...K. So the band The Armed (who I quite like) have put out a song using my name. Whatever to that,” Frank Turner tweeted on June 5. “But it also uses some recorded vocals of mine from a session about 8 years ago (a song I never finished).” He added that he’s “not very stoked about recordings getting used like that” and that “no one involved [is] getting back to him.”
Turner did say that, had the Armed asked him, he likely would have granted permission for use “because I think they’re ace,” but nevertheless condemned “raiding archives like this.” Find Frank Turner’s tweets below.

Guano Apes cover of Big-in-Japan was my first rare find on Napster, right as it was booming. I realized music discovery could be a whole different category of software. A few years later, Pandora came out, and I was in love. Then the music cartel lobbied congress and additionally made internet streaming royalties more expensive than radio broadcast, and suddenly I had nothing.
Blew my mind when I learned this is what the band Ministry was at one point. Had no idea until like 2 years backlol bad synth pop Ministry. For a long time Al tried to claim that the label forced them to write all that material or wrote it for them but you can find footage of them playing it before the deal was signed on youtube. People that were involved at the time post here and there on a fan forum I lurk about on and note that things ended up more than a little overproduced but that stuff is what Al was into and trying to do. If you want a breakdown on who and what they're trying to be on every song on With Sym along with how and why they're not quite pulling it off the site I Die You Die has a commentary podcast where they talk over the album and break it down. Almost every track starts with one of them audibly cringing. https://www.idieyoudie.com/2017/06/17/we-have-a-commentary-ministry-with-sympathy/ I had a framed vinyl copy of this album hanging up in one of the places I lived. :-*

I have only heard a single or two from Phoebe. I really enjoyed the Boygenius project she was part of.

Touche Amore - Lament
the album is out. Probably available on any streaming service.
I've listened to it. I'm ready for a change in the sound. I think it's pretty similar to the general sound of the last 2 records, but most of the tracks I'd say fall shorter than what was on those records. Time for another shift. I think the boys have gone far enough in this sort of direction and need to search in another direction that's true to the band's overall sound, but doesn't become stagnant.
this shit is great as long as max shuts the fuck up

says something that i absolutely loved parting the sea and is survived by but can't even be bothered to listen to this from what i've been told about it after how bored i was with stage four.

Not like a huge Mac Miller fan or anything but I am hooked on this tune. The video is real pretty too.
Nice looking clubYeah, it's a great little venue. It's called Lefty's Old Time Music Hall. Lots of wood, leather, taxidermy and vintage fixtures. Their thing is rockabilly, blues, and underground stuff.
Jelly as fuck about that live show. :'(Got an acoustic show from Valhalore coming up on 23 April.

Been back on an AJJ (Andrew Jackson Jihad) kick. The first time I got into AJJ I had to stop because the extreme nihilism of his early stuff was fucking with my mindset and making me depressed.Yeah I like AJJ too. I also had that weird experience where it made me kind of depressed and I had to take a break from it. Some of that shit hits too close to home.
He's basically Weird Al but waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay darker. His stuff is 90% a joke and 10% incredibly nihilistically depressing. I hadn't heard his newest album from last year until today and it's pretty great though very much a period of its political time.

I always liked his first track on his first album, kinda defines AJJ for me. The "HOLY FUCK YOU ARE BLEEDING THERE" line gets me every time :lol
His first album is sooo nihilistic.

. Little Simz is also known for being a discreet artist, who speaks when she is only needed, which makes her personality even more fascinating.
