Been on a big Steely Dan kick the past few weeks. It's good to listen to while working because it's not too distracting, but if you want to, you can pay it all of your attention and be kinda amazed. I love the super clean production where you can hear every instrument in the mix clearly.

Saw Lorde live today and she was even worse than Green Day. What's her deal? Were her parents rich enough to buy a producer that could get her a deal? She sucks at singing at a pro level. She didn't play any instruments. She's embarassing at dancing (and possibly even worse, her on stage dancers exhibited sophomore high school cheerleading level choreography).

I do not think this song is 100% about Trump. It has some dystopian undertones but they seem to be centered around emotionally/physically abusive relationships. If this is supposed to signify how Trump is abusing the American people...then so be it.

that EVERYTHING MUST BE TRUMP RELATED NONSENSE aside, on the plus side, i think at least artists won't be afraid to actually admit their songs are about Trump if they are

i came to loathe some of the stuff that came out around the Iraq War that was obviously Bush laser directed, and the artist would deny it for some reason while also talking about the need to protest and free speech and blah blah, all while being feted for SPEAKING TRUTH TO POWER...especially since so much of it was boring tepid garbage that couldn't even be clever let alone level an actual political critique

like system of a down was totally up and front honest about theirs and the song is fun on top of that, why couldn't you be?

(related to the SNL conversation we had a few weeks ago...SOAD was at least temporarily (and thus permanently?) banned because while they self-censored the various FUCKS in this song so they could play it, Daron accidentally or intentionally (stories differ) dropped another random one into their performance)

though nothing was as bad as the V for Vendetta film, a human rights crime we still suffer for today

One of the worst things about this administration is that Green Day is probably going to make a fortune yet again when they release Even More Americaner Idioter. I liked the approach Disturbed took to W, they just covered an old protest tune. 'Yeah this is all the same shit again it doesn't even deserve a new jam'.
