Finally listened to Ohms in full (the Deftones album). It's good. I don't seem to be as high on it as several others, but it's good.

Was listening to Dead Man's Pop by the Replacements. I like the production here more than Don't Tell A Soul. I mean the songwriting remains the same, but yeah this sound would have been better. Like I would rather hear this version. I can't really tell if it's enough to make me reevaluate the tracks themselves. I was never super negative on Don't Tell a Soul in the first place. It's not even close to being a bad record. It just doesn't compare to the string of records leading up to it. When you get removed from the discography for some time and listen to Dead Man's Pop it's a good record. If that was the first time I heard The Replacements it would have made me go dig into their catalog. And then you realize they just had some absolute classics

. Dead Man's Pop/Don't Tell a Soul don't reach that level.

Anyways, I decided to give a run through Pleased to Meet Me. The Ledge. Man, I forgot how amazing that track is.

Hello, yes it's me. The soyboy who DOES like Pantera. I guess there will be some 20th anniversary remaster of the final Pantera album, Reinventing the Steel, which didn't actually reinvent anything, but frankly I do like the album. Probably like 70%. Revolution is my Name, Goddamn Electric, Yesterday Don't Mean Shit. Lyrically the album is very one note about Pantera being Pantera and that they are gonna stay Pantera. Anywhooooooo, so the estate I guess (cause both of the Abbot brothers are enjoying Blacktooth Grins in the afterlife now) released an unreleased tune from this era. And frankly I'm glad the boys left it off the 10 song album cause it just straight up sucks. I don't think any of these unreleased tracks that they have eventually released were worthwhile and the band did well by keeping them off the main records.

So yeah, Immortally Insane.

I've listened to it. I'm ready for a change in the sound. I think it's pretty similar to the general sound of the last 2 records, but most of the tracks I'd say fall shorter than what was on those records. Time for another shift. I think the boys have gone far enough in this sort of direction and need to search in another direction that's true to the band's overall sound, but doesn't become stagnant.

I'm still a huge fan of Stage Four (favorite is Is Survived By). On Lament I feel like there are 3 or 4 songs I'm interested in listening to again, but I really haven't dabbled with it at all since my full start to finish listen. I look forward to hearing Reminders at the live show. Essentially the most pop punky song on the record. Honestly, my biggest issue with the album aside from feeling lyrically kinda done before is that it's missing interesting guitar licks. I think that's probably my biggest complaint. Is Survived By had some really cool guitar passages in some songs.

final edit: and the funny thing is the songs Green and Deflector which were released in 2018 and 2019 respectively (maybe both were 2019) I thought were good tracks. But alas, Lament is what it is.
