I went a little crazy on iTunes Store, and my bank called to make sure it was really me using the card. I guess I hit some kind of limit.

Twilight Zone was shot on film, so the current 1080P transfer on iTMS is really, really good looking. So weird that this looks better than Curb Your Enthusiasm, which is only offered in standard def.

The new Mickey Mouse shorts are pretty great. They're Flash animations or something. They look like they're part of an initiative to update Mickey, and the look/feel is consistent with the Disney "Where's My Water" style app featuring Mickey.

Watched the first two Episodes back to back.

It's really like OG X-Men for fucked up people.  there's a Magneto and an Xavier.  There's a ton of teens who are told to wear stupid uniforms ("witches wear black"), they have super powers (for their own self interest to the detriment of others), there are weird monstrous villains (the minotaur), etc etc etc.

It really compliments the first season, I think.  I hope they have a 13 hour story instead of an 8 hour story.

I didn't like that there was a gang rape scene.  It's tacky and off putting even if she gets revenge minutes later.  I understand the racial components may be "period appropriate" and I understand that everything else AHS it was wildly overblown but it was still somewhat discomforting to watch.

Faith is pretty much restored.  Can't wait for it to rev back up.

Yeah, the rape scene felt out of place.  It didn't seem like there was a legitimate reason for it to be there.  The end goal could have been accomplished some other way (at least from what I can tell so far in the story).  But from the first two episodes it feels like they're keeping a bit of a tighter lid instead of blowing their load so quickly like Asylum.  Glad that it has your seal of approval now too :hyper

I liked 2 of the 4 episodes I've seen.  Its still really prime time generic where all the characters seem to imitations.  Arrow on the other hand in rocking it in its first two episodes this season.

Just read a summary for whats been going on in season 5 of The Vampire Diaries. Sounds like a clusterfuck. It's a shame because that show was one of the most entertaining shows on TV before the Originals showed up.

I want to watch it, but I don't have the time right now unfortunately.  I still need to wrap the first season.  I really liked what I saw at the time even if it was really wrapping itself in those CW tropes

Yeah I started off hating it yet I kept watching, and by ep 7 I was hooked. I most definely recommend you get back into it once you can. If only for the first 2 seasons.

I don't really like that Ollie doesn't want to kill now. I totally get and understand why he doesn't want to anymore but after having an entire season of him dropping dudes left and right, it's kinda ehhhh. However any villians they introduce now will probably stick around longer now.

So is Blade Runner: The TV Series [aka Almost Human] actually going to be any good? Because I really want a show about a surly Karl Urban teaming up with a hip black robot to fight crime in a future time to be totally awesome.

Arrow is whut it is. It's a cheezy, fun action show and then its a terrible CW soap with a terrible female lead. It's still way better than Agents of Shield as a superhero show.

Agents of Shield may have had the worst 'sexy' scene I've seen in a long time last episode.

Thanks for the heads-up! That looks really cool!

I'm worried that there's no promotional stuff flooding the interwebs for a show exec-produced by JJ Abrams. I'm all about Karl Urban getting more work. He's awesome!

Finally got around to watching the primer of S3 Homeland. Really enjoyed it, perhaps due to a certain character not being in it. It was a slow, tense episode that reminded me of S1.

Homeland doesn't need the Dana or Brody's wife stuff to fill time either, so I'm not sure why it's still there. I feel like there's a lot of story to be had with a character like Quinn. His character gets little scenes, but they are some of the best scenes in this season, and they're relevant to the greater plot. And then it's 15 minutes of Dana's wild adventures and I'm mentally checking out.

Dracula was weird.  It's not Dracula, invading Carpathian.  It's Dracula uh secret service agent against some ancient conspiracy posing as an American using Tesla tech to.....something.

It's interesting and if you have any sort of affection for Dracula's original story it's best to treat this not as an adaptation but something that's basically cribbed some names to tell an unrelated story.

I watched Orange is the New Black over the last week.  Damn.  It's a really good show.  I originally avoided it because I thought it would be like a prison/lesbian version of Grey's Anatomy or something.  But damn, the humor is great and it's really well written.  I really enjoyed it.

Yeah there were some meh moments, but I have to disagree on
spoiler (click to show/hide)
Healy.  It showed from the beginning that he had a weird vendetta against lesbians.  It started off as being a joke but he got more serious about it gradually as the season wore on.  I saw it coming.  Maybe not to the extent of having him assist in her murder, but it was fairly obvious that he wasn't a good guy.  He had some sort of ax to grind.
[close]

But most of the downsides of the show have the same problem.  Chapman.  She's the least interesting person of the entire show and it took effort not to tune her out sometimes.  I hated that face she made when she was awe struck.  You fucking know what I'm talking about.

Yeah I can definitely see that.  The character kinda snaps.  It reminded me of some moments in real life though.  I've had a few acquaintances whose slightly judgmental attitude suddenly turned up to 11 after certain incidents.  Think 9/11 and the image of Muslims but on a smaller social scale.

Downton Abbey S4
spoiler (click to show/hide)
The last two episodes really reminded me of vintage Downton, and offered an interesting glimpse of the future. The penultimate episode felt so much like what the halfway point of the season should have been. The rest of the season could have shown Robert's journey to America, more Mr. Blake, more exploration of the farming, etc. Instead the season got interesting with two episodes left, now we wait to see what monkey wrench the writers will throw at us in the Christmas special. Edith's arc seemed to go nowhere, she seems like such a wasted character. I'm guessing she'll die next.

I'm not a fan of the Bates stuff at all. I suppose it makes his character more interesting than the white knight he has been, but it feels like such a retread (and not in a good way). At this point I look forward to his downfall, just so we can be done with this nonsense.

The Mary triangle is actually interesting so I have no complaints there. I like Blake, he reminds me of Tom in fact. Whereas the Gilliam dude is pretty stereotypical.

BTW this marks another season of Thomas being completely wasted. He was quite interesting in S1, and his transformation in S2 was good television. Since then he's pretty much been a stereotypical villain, with absolutely no story. I would have loved to see him in New York...
[close]

Very disappointing season but my love of the characters ensured I was entertained. And as I said, the last couple episodes were very good and set up quite a lot of potential. I look forward to the Christmas special and S5.

The Downton Christmas special will probably resolve the Edith arc. He's totally dead.

Sidibe (I think) from Precious is pretty good.  Last season was still good up to this point so we'll see.  But yeah, it's really fun so far.  But the shock factor is wearing a bit thin IMO.  It seems worse than the previous seasons.  Or maybe I'm getting older.  Who knows?  Still a really fun ride so far.
