It was 'wait till next year' last year, and everyting this year keeps getting pushed back. We should just start saying 'next year of ps3'. Also major lulz a MKWii outselling GTA4 PS3.

But in all seriousness, both HD consoles need a price cut. Not even GTA4 did anything.

Considering how dependable the Wii is, my mind is reeling as to what the saturation point is gonna be, or if its ever gonna be

I also dont get why the pokemon games get two slots, I mean I get it, but at the same time I dont. Im even someone who bought Explorers of Time!

Eh, I expected the sales boost to come in May anyways for the consoles.

I'm more surprised how close the PS3 got to the 360!

I'm more surprised the PSP outsold the 360, lawlz. 360 sales have been around there for a while now. The monthly Wii and DS figures are a complete anomaly. It really blows my mind how fast their hardware sells.

I agree, but I also agree that the both the 360 and PS3 deserve to get their asses handed to them.

In all fairness, 360 joins a select few consoles i've been more than willing to buy at least 3 times for ANY reason. If my ps3 broke before I owned all these blurays, yeah I wouldn't have bothered.

Hey, ill do anything for games to play.

PSONe- busted out of the box launch day, disc errors all over - bought another, and another, and another.
N64 - nothing to really play, owned 1, lost it in my room till the day I moved out of the house
Dreamcast - oh god where to begin, bought 5-6 in all, kept BACK UP UNITS. lots of games!
PS2 - stopped reading DVDs, weird grinding noises, bought maybe 3-4 total, GAMES!
Gamecube - bought 1, dependable! Sadly only 13 games at the end of lifespan I actually wanted.
PS3 - kicks all my stuff off of wireless network, bluetooth signal drops from my controller or sends phantom signals, not a lot of good exclusive titles, but plays blurays
X360 - three units, DREs have claimed two units, elite is my latest. I'd bitch but 360 games generally dominate the top 10, on average. Lots of games!
Wii - like 3 games I want to play, floaty controls, blah

But the fact that they rushed out a shitty product and give horrible service makes me shudder at the idea of them ever taking Nintendo's place.

Microsoft? They aren't really after a piece of this market, and I sincerely doubt they'd ever want the burden of actually leading this particular industry. It's all about squeezing Sony. I hope that happens, I'm sick of having to deal with multiple consoles. I can deal with having one gaming/multimedia device (in addition to the PC) and a toy on the side, but this shit with owning two HD consoles, bleh.

That said, those are truly comical numbers. Serious price drops are needed now, for both HD consoles. I don't think it's a matter of competing with the Wii, but those just aren't good numbers. And the more Wiis that are sold to women, the smaller the chance that their partners will be allowed to spend money on other video game system. I've recently been witness to one of those situations, where my inlaw was berated and down right harassed by his wife for spending any time playing silly and stupid video games on his 360. They came over here the day after we got our Wii, and no more than two hours after leaving our house, they were also Wii owners. And it was all the wife's idea.

The nintendo fanboy in me is crying.  Why did it have to be the Wii - my most hated console ever - that became hugely successful for them?  :gloomy

Because Nintendo simply couldn't compete on the terms set by Sony, and later Microsoft. So it went back to what it does best; cater to families, and not just in a half-assed Viva Piñata sort of way, but on a fundamental level. Women love the simplicity, and mothers love watching their kids have fun. So, it's a success.

PS3 NPD HW Sales

April Top-selling PS3 game: GTA IV, 1.0M

March 2007: 130.0K
March 2008: 216.0K
March Top-selling PS3 game: Army of Two, 224.9K

February 2007: 127.0K
February 2008: 280.8K
February Top-selling PS3 game: Devil May Cry 4, 233.5K

Honestly, I think the bump is not due to GTA IV - the PS3 has simply been selling better compared to a dismal 2007 where frankly, sales could only get better.

WAIT FOR KILLZONE 2

Killzone 2 is probably going to have about the same effect on sales and Ps3 image as Gears had for the 360. Great presentation, the right themes, it's a success story waiting to happen. 'Tis a shame about the game though. Guerrilla  :(

Killzone was pretty popular in Europe. Not that it matters; Killzone 2, actual game quality unknown, is something that is going to turn heads. It's a damned pretty FPS with great artistic values and the craftsmanship to actually get some use out of the impressive technology. It features a sci-fi showdown story against iconic and decidedly sci-fi enemy, yet with familiar qualities (such as uncharacteristically grounded weapons and familiar symbolism) that will appeal to war game buffs and sci-fi dorks alike. The production values are clearly through the roof, so yeah... it will be big. Honestly, it'd take one hell of an opposing camp fanboy to first salivate over Gears and COD, and then point at that and claim that it looks unappealing.

Whether it will be a good game, that's another matter. But then I didn't have a lot of faith in Epic to deliver a solid single player game, and I was proven real wrong there. There are a lot of resources going into Killzone 2.

Yep, pretty much my feelings. No matter what, the game is down right appealing and focuses on similar stuff that Gears made feel so good too and 'cover' is the least of it.

As if tech is the only beneficiary of these resources. The artistic value of Killzone 2 is second to none, as are the production values in general, and I can appreciate that they are also trying to do something with gunplay that goes above the safe ground. I'm well aware of Guerrilla's track record when it comes to making compelling games, but let's give credit where credit is due.

And really, if you don't think a lot of resources went into development of UE3 and its flagship demonstration, you're out of your mind.

I agree that's a lot of Production Value going into Killzone and I think it looks gorgeous... but how much did that really help Uncharted?  Uncharted is fucking beautiful.  When I show people the game they're stunned.  Still wasn't huge though.  We'll see

Edit: and despite what gamers think, most casuals do listen to ign, yahoo gaming news, that kind of shit.  They buy into that hype.  Not gaming messageboard hype.  If yahoo tells them that it plays like dogshit, most casuals will think that.

As far as I can tell, most people still shop based on ads and box covers, and Killzone 2 is the right stuff at least for the former. Uncharted was marketed as what, an action adventure game of the Tomb Raider sort? Killzone 2 is a wet dream for marketing, with striking symbolism built in and an attention grabbing audiovisual presentation with a "universal" appeal. Interplanetary warfare, with a traditional, world war 2 influenced story and image base, and guns that anyone can relate to, and that actually break shit. It's going to be huge.

Killzone 2 looks like generic, apocalyptical sci-fi.  I don't see why it would have great appeal for anyone who doesn't know the hype about its tech.

Also, the "2" might be a disadvantage since some will wonder why they never heard much good things about the 1st one.

Killzone 2 looks like generic, apocalyptical sci-fi.  I don't see why it would have great appeal for anyone who doesn't know the hype about its tech.

Familiar symbolism, designed by the Third Reich. Iconic enemies; original or not, the Helghast glowing eye presentation is striking and memorable. Beautifully designed industrial settings and prps. Weapons not only stand out as being decidedly not sci-fi despite the sci-fi setting, but are damn sweet to look at (as is the player interaction with the weapons), and now cause real damage to environments as well as bodies, with at least the former easily demonstrated in even a brief ad. The explosions are, like the audiovisual presentation in general, real hot, and people fucking love hot explosions. Again, something that will undoubtedly be a big part of the televised ad campaign.

Add a good to great score and the typical story of a heroic squad going up against seemingly insurmountable odds courtesy of a badass looking foe, and you have yourself a winner. Doubting the appeal of this game is a bit silly. And really, no one needs to know anything about the "tech hype" as its plainly obvious to anyone that it's running on some fine technology.

Killzone 2 looks like generic, apocalyptical sci-fi.  I don't see why it would have great appeal for anyone who doesn't know the hype about its tech.

Also, the "2" might be a disadvantage since some will wonder why they never heard much good things about the 1st one.

or maybe they'll remember how shitty the first one was

GOW2 is going to own sales this year, and totally obliterate Resistance 2. Next year who knows what MS has to combat KZ2 but I'm still not convinced it's going to be some monumental success

What I don't get is why the Wii hardware sales are so astronomically high, yet the software sales really aren't.  What are people buying?  Nothing?  Just playing Wii Sports still?

I don't know the tie ratios for the various consoles, but I don't think the Wii is too shabby.  Nothing like the 360 though.  In any case, Mario Kart and SSBB sold well this month (Wii owners have no taste).

the wii *is* wii sports for most wii owners i know; they couldn't honestly care less that other games exist save that copy of wii play they got with their extra waggle wand

Let's not forget, women typically do not buy games. They want Wii, for Wii Sports and other games that they have maybe read or been told about. But unless the games are bundled, or at least picked up with the system, Wii Sports is where it's going to remain. Well, Wii Play, because of the bundled controller.

i think the most tragic part of the wii is how all these hardcore ninthings, despite having been booted off the blue ocean cruise, have convinced themselves they not only want to "play" wii fit but will profoundly enjoy it

I always wondered about that, why hardcore ex-Cubites would be so excited about Nintendo breaking sales records on the back of Wii Play, and now WiiFit. But really, it's probably just point evidence that severe Nintendardism isn't about gaming at all, and probably hasn't been for some time.

You made a typo there, Crushed.  You should stop being so careless.  I don't know what you would of done if I hadn't caught that.

I don't know what he would have done either!  :-*

let's not forget who's buying the wii either.  mothers and fathers for their children because it's deemed as safe and cheap.  these are also the kind of people that buy 2 or 3 games a year for their kids.  i don't think the attach ratio will ever be that high until it becomes more of a hardcore gamer oriented system which it will never be.
