The last show I saw was Okkervil River in October, down at the National in Richmond, VA. Pretty good show, the band as always put in a great effort but the audience and vibe were kinda meh. It's cool that Richmond has some decent venues now. I'd recommend an OR show to anyone.
Other shows this year: Radiohead (best show ever with the worst weather ever), Grizzly Bear at a historic synagogue (amaaazing), David Byrne, and Built to Spill. Not a bad year for me.
I've been going to a ton of gigs lately. Mostly local Adelaide bands that wouldn't mean much to anyone here,

post that shit anyway! come late december/January and the next 3 years after that, I'll mostly be posting local chicago stuff. :)
-Going to see Neil Young on Thursday :rock
Met Ollie and his brother after the gig, the name does come from the Neo Geo game, both massive gamers, worked on Transformers as well at Melbourne House. I :bow2 'ed a lot.
legendary pink dots :-*
I am seeing Vampire Weekend on Tuesday. Maybe The Raveonettes in January, probably nothing after that for a while.

nice! I saw him with Crazy Horse a few years ago on the Greendale tour. Those fogies still had it! :)
before that show last night, I caught deerhoof...probably the worst out of the 6 or so times I've seen them, but still alright. They've been touring the world for about 3 years straight, so I imagine they're a little burnt out.Noise Rock - when inaudible Grindcore becomes too trendy.
really? really?

last time they played the RnR Hotel it was all straight album versions. w/o the strings. so there were long bits of basically nothing going on.
let me know if that's changed.

:lol Well, I guess some people really enjoy the sound of it..but i'm willing to bet a lot of folks listen to it because it's a true aberrant genre of music.

That's strange... I saw them in Providence, RI, they definitely didn't deviate from the album at all, but they had the strings and everything from what I recall. Pretty good concert overall, IMO.
I actually like Neon Bible better than Funeral. :shh
I just meant that it's not a big shock or anything; it's pretty much standard fare for bands to have a less-than-stellar follow-up to a well received album.

especially in hip hop
Well, it was actually shockingly good -- one of the best sounding shows I've seen at the 9:30 Club. Kudos to the sound man. All the old material was fantastic, keyboards standing-in for the string sections went quite well, and they played a decent amount of new stuff, some of which was up to par with the old, but most falls a bit short. I think we're in for yet another (surprise) sophomore slump.

i was too poor to see them when they played nyc
:(
my last concert was Health and Video Hippos
my next concert is probably Of Montreal dec 16th.

Dec 11 brooklyn show with 15 person ensemble
Body: Dearest Internet,
On December 11th I'll be doing my first show of my new set with an
ensemble of live performers. I'm both very excited and really nervous.
While most of songs are ones I have been playing live for a while, it
will nonetheless be our "first show.
" The set will mainly be material
off my new album, Bromst, which is coming out March 24th on Carpark
Records.
The ensemble is made up of these musicians:
Percussion:
Eric Beach (So Percussion)
Denny Bowen (Double Dagger, Smarthgrowth)
Jeremy Hyman (Ponytail, Ultimate Reality)
Kevin O'Meara )Videohippos, Ultimate Reality)
Rich O'Meara (ko'mm)
Josh Quillen (So Percussion)
Adam Sliwinski (So Percussion)
Jason Treuting (So Percussion)
Synthesizers, Keyboards and Electronics:
Benny Boeldt (Adventure)
William Cashion (Future Islands)
Dan Deacon (me)
Chester Gwazda (Nuclear Power Pants)
Gerrit Welmers (Future Islands)
Guitar:
Matt Papiach (Ecstatic Sunshine/White Williams)
Ken Seeno (Ponytail)
Its taken a long time to split up all the parts and arrange what was
written for electronics and transcribe it into playable parts for
skilled humans. I'm super pumped for this as I loved skilled humans.
In addition to the ensemble I'll still be doing be doing some songs
solo where its more appropriate. I also designed and built a tent.

this tour is hitting sonar if you dc people want to catch it
Saw Nick Cave at the Riviera Theatre in Chicago in Sept. It was pretty cool, but I was so dehydrated and wasn't eating very much that I ended up passing out and had to be carried out of the place into the backroom by the medics. It was pretty fucked up.
Don't worry about it. Nick Cave is used to bitches fainting at his presence.
Radiohead was probably one of the best concerts I've been to. If you can get over the acid distinguished effete fellows doing that dance around you, it was awesome awesome wowsome.
I'm looking forward to Girl Talk in January. Nobody ever comes to Cleveland though :(
