ok.
This hypothetical 2D Mario game you speak of, something for Wii or DS?
Meh.
they are still going to spend like 20 minutes on sales charts and like more than half on wii sports resort and wii fit plus. no matter what they show. there will be some good reveals but the vast majority of this will be boring.
Man, a new 2D Mario for Wii, and a Sin and Punishment 2 blowout, and Nintendo steals the show... :droolReally? Is that all it would take?
I honestly believe Nintendo is on the truer path to gaming nirvana than MS is.
In order to have full control of ANY type of game (not just casual games) You need to have SOME buttons. That's just the way it is. The only way for NATAL to work on any game would be if we had some kind of chamber you floated in and could walk freely without running into anything.
What happens when you play a non-human? What if you're a creature with wings? How do you control your wings versus your arms?
It wouldn't work. Buttons are needed for the majority of game genres.
NATAL will have it's applications, but the Wii-mote is much more versatile than NATAL could ever be. If Nintendo would make a head mounted motion sensing headset (that worked), we'd be at the peak of game immersion. That is until we get a game hooked up directly to our brain.
There's a new Mario game. The Ninthing in me is satisfied.Watch, it'll be a golf game.

there are two hours between the start of this conference and the start of Sony's. It can't be as long as Microsofts, that's for sure.

Red Steel 2 MP required, Nintards crying.
this conference is awful. sony is going to look like gods after this
the guys in the audience have got to be wanting to shoot themselves in the face
Why are they dwelling on this shit? They could announce all these games on a news show - you know, to attract the type of people they're looking for. No one in that audience, and no one watching the streams, gives a shit about these games
This year's Nintendo conference is basically the same as last year's.

Funny thing is that the audience just wants another franchise rehash. Granted I want to see the next Zelda but it shows how Nintendo doesn't seem to care about bringing "new, innovative" shit to hardcore gamers

I looooove galaxy, but it really doesn't need a sequel.
You didn't like Galaxy, Beezy? That's one the few gems on the system.I thought it was decent, but way overrated. Even if it was one of the best games ever, it didn't need a sequel so quickly. Looks too similar.
end with Zelda
I'm really hungry now, I need to eat before sony
ZLEDA ZELDA ZELDA
Seriously, ughh EAD Tokyo could have done ANYTHING ELSE but a goddam.... fuck. I'm upset about this.
I looooove galaxy, but it really doesn't need a sequel.
Fuck you
that monster game and that gladiator game look pretty neat to me
They may look neat, but they're still developed by a developer whose absolute fucking zenith was Hunter: The Reckoning, and whose frequent low points include such shitstains as Family Guy the Video Game, Leisure Suit Larry Magna Cum Laude, and White Men Can't Jump. These guys couldn't make a decent game if someone talented made it for them and they just had to stamp their name on the box.
I looooove galaxy, but it really doesn't need a sequel.
Fuck you
No fuck you buddy. I actually like to buy games that don't feel like ten other games I already have. How many shooters did you in the last year again chuummmmmmm....p?

GAF seems to have forgotton that everyone important has left Tecmo.
Still, expecting Nfags to keep up with the wider gaming world is asking a lot
Actually as far as we know for sure the only dude that left Tecmo was the self-important one. It's a pretty big disservice to that team to give Itagaki all the credit for the quality of the games.

Did you not see the recent interview where they listed off all the team leads who were now working with Itagaki at his new place of work?
Reggie was interviewed by G4 and they asked him about Retro. He was very secretive!! He said that nintendo and Retro decided that they will work on another project and it won't be shown this E3.God no keep them the fuck away from Zelda. :maf

I think I might be one of the only people who like 2d gaming. I have this recorded on DVR, will watch later, but I've seen enough screen caps to say I like the NSMB2. Can I guess we didn't see a RPG for the Wii?
Did you guys notice that Miyamoto wasn't there!!
He is supposed to be leading the roundtable tonight... hmmm.. maybe he has a surprise up his sleeve?
What is this Monado: Beginning of the World game? It looks like it could be cool...
Wait, is NSMB2 for Wii or DS? Looks like shit. :/Wii
Dumb post is dumb. Galaxy was awesome because it was a departure from the Mario 64 template.
Mario Galaxy 2 looks fucking awesome, and I'm amazed they had the good sense to reuse a great engine for a sequel. Here, I would expect Nintendo's interest in non-games to supersede its tendency to milk Mario. But, milked mustachioed mascot or not, it's obvious Galaxy 2 will be the first or second-best game on the system. I'm tentatively guessing this will be more difficult (pretty please) and even zanier than number one. Yoshi sucked in Sunshine, but I have a feeling they're doing something different with him this time.
Don't know how I feel about Metroid (and I'm a fan of the Prime games! Especially the first one). The obvious CG footage looked like shit; the obvious gameplay footage looked pretty slick, but then I've never liked the Ninja Gaiden games, so I'm apprehensive about it.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii looks OK, I guess. EmCeeGrammar is excited for this and not for Galaxy 2--lulz.
EDIT: The biggest and douchiest ninthings at GAF are somehow massively let down by the Galaxy 2 announcement but floored by New Super Mario Bros. Wii. EmCee, you're in good company.
Can't wait for the Twilight Princess-esque backlash to SMG2.Dumb post is dumb. Galaxy was awesome because it was a departure from the Mario 64 template.
LOL. Horse. shit.
Actually, no it wouldn't--3D Mario's core gameplay is more timeless and in less need of change than 3D Zelda's.
but you like NSMB Wii...a fucking sequel?

New Super Mario Bros. 2
is NSMB2 Wiiware or something?:lol Why would Nintendo charge $10 for something they could easily sell for $50 ala Punch Out?
wtf? Kingdom Hearts was announced for the Wii or is this another situation where IGN is distinguished mentally-challenged?

FEATURES:
• New Super Mario Bros. Wii offers a combination of cooperation and competition. Players can pick each other
up to save them from danger or toss them into it.
• Mario™, Luigi™ and two Toads are all playable characters, while many others from the Mushroom Kingdom
make appearances throughout the game. Players can even ride different Yoshi characters and use their
tongues to swallow enemies – or their fellow players.
• In some areas, players use the motion abilities of the Wii Remote™ controller. The first player to reach a
seesaw might make it tilt to help his or her character reach a higher platform – and then tilt it incorrectly just to
mess with other players.
• New items include the propeller suit, which will shoot players high into the sky with just a shake of the Wii
Remote and Mario’s new ability to transform into Penguin Mario.
• At the end of each stage during the simultaneous multiplayer mode, players are ranked based on their score,
the coins collected and the number of enemies defeated.

That's kinda ironic considering Donkey Kong started as a licensed Popeye game.

IGN: You have a bit more insight on the development of Galaxy 2. What's the direction for the game? Do they really want to blow it out or will it be more of the same?
Reggie: What Mr. Miyamoto has shared is that if the first Galaxy was maybe more inviting in terms of all the audiences, what Galaxy 2 is going to be is maybe a little more Nintendo fan / harder gamer focused. A little tougher. The use of Yoshi makes it a little more challenging. We showed some of the snippets of some of the activities -- it's a bit more challenging. It's going to be, if you will, for more of that passionate Mario fan who grew up getting challenged with Super Mario World. It's going to be much more in that area.
Finally off of work. E3 liveblogs were a total productivity killer today.

IGN: You didn't show Pikmin 3, which is what we were expecting you to show. That kind of surprised us. Why not?
Reggie: Matt, we're all about surprises. We will show that game when it's ready. At the right time. Close to when it's going to be launched. It's not there yet. But Mr. Miyamoto still has his roundtable to do, so maybe you'll see. Maybe you might get that surprise after all.
IGN: Yeah, that's the next question. Mr. Miyamoto didn't have a stage presence here today. The first question is, why not because he usually does? And then, he is here. He has a roundtable. Can you give us a hint as to what it's about?
Reggie: Sure. Well, first off, if you look at how Mr. Miyamoto has interacted in our press conferences, it's been a wide range -- everything from making an appearance at the end in 2004 to being on hand to do a demo. This year, given all the content that we had, we thought it would be best for him to go in-depth with a handful of games during his developer's roundtable and that's what he's going to do later today.
IGN: So you think we might get a surprise or two out of the roundtable?
Reggie: Again, we're always trying to surprise you. So we'll see.
nintendo gets game of the show, drinky am cry
:bow A REAL MAN'S MARIO :bow2
still miyamoto
i thought aonuma did sunshine?
Who's that dude who headed Jungle Beat and Galaxy...head of Tokyo
Yoshiaki Koizumi :hyper
he got a lot more talented between Sunshine and Galaxy
Mario Galaxy 2 looks fucking awesome, and I'm amazed they had the good sense to reuse a great engine for a sequel. Here, I would expect Nintendo's interest in non-games to supersede its tendency to milk Mario. Yoshi sucked in Sunshine, but I have a feeling they're doing something different with him this time.
Q: Does Galaxy's difficulty level rival the second half of Sunshine's?
A: That's a question that I've struggled with for a very long time. There are a number of people on staff who think Sunshine was too difficult. But at the same time we have team members who liked the game because of the difficulty. In terms of Galaxy, my feeling is that it is a good thing to have a suitable level of difficulty. To be honest, the game was significantly easier until a few months ago, and then I started making it harder until the team in Tokyo became concerned that I was making it too difficult.
Galaxy 2 has recycled content. :yuck
Now now, 90% new is a pretty good ratio for a Nintendo sequel.
As long as there's enough new stuff, I won't mind much if there are some old levels with new challenges so long as said new challenges are somewhat well thought out.
The Miyamoto roundtable thing starts soon, GAF's all hyped up for it but there's probably going to be nothing new.
I think at last year's roundtable the press finally got him to announce that Pikmin 3 was in development, but that was all.
i thought Cassamina fudged it and Miyamoto actually just revealed the pikmin wii remake last year?
Any of you clowns live in Ann Arbor? I need a Wii.
Is it a REAL SMB, with full fledged well thought of single player levels and campaign? because I'm really puzzled by them showing the multilayer part of it during the conference. The MP didn't look that different from the one in the DS iteration, and while that was an ok distraction I never bothered myself with it beyond the the first 10 minutes I spent trying it when I first got the game.
I really don't mind getting SMG2 next year if this game is at least at the same level of quality as the previous one.
7:03 p.m.: Shows new illustration for the next Zelda for Wii. Nothing to show yet, but it shows an adult link. More grown up than ever before.
There are people who think of Zelda more as an RPG with simpler controls, so trying to figure out how to make everybody happy is something that's going to concern me," says Miyamoto
It shows link and a female in blue in a robe. It's a painting. He wants to annonce it next year. And I should be motion plus compatible. Maybe only wii motion plus
Wii is already being overpowered by what's happening on screen in New Super Mario Bros Wii. So no power left for online
metroid and mario party: sidescrolling both look like shit.
Yea, maybe. I'm not into parsing one liners from people who barely speak English. I'll believe it when I see it demoed. I'm sure it'll have a single player mode but will it be finely tuned and optimized? I think we'll be lucky if it's as good as NSMB on DS.
NSMB1 was just pretty good and the video I saw of this looks outright dull. And it's the only game coming out for the rest of this year. SMG2 will obviously rock and I guess maybe Metroid might be ok, but that trailer sure wasn't showing it outside of being third person. I'm going to laugh if it winds up being like Sonic Unleashed meets Wario Ware with quickie, instantaneous first person pointer minigames.

no wonder brandnew never gets laid
Just showed my wife the footage from New Super Mario Bros Wii. She was fist pumping the air. Mantra family buying a Wii confirmed.:lol Well it makes sense though. Didn't Nintendo say they are going to ramp up the difficulty in SMG 2 and have it appeal pretty much exclusively to the more "LOLOLOL HARDCORE" market?
I then showed her the Mario Galaxy 2 footage. I wish I recorded her hilarious audio commentary for YouTube, as it would piss off Nintendo fanboys worldwide. "What is this shit! Too confusing! Make it simple! What? What the fuck is going on? How do you know where you're going? That stupid 3D Mario game on the Nintendo 64 took forever to figure out! Just keep it going from left to right! Wait, what the fuck? Flying around? Oh no. Fuck no. No fucking way."

You must have hated every Zelda before Wind Waker then...
I don't care for the football-head chibi style, but neither do I care about how 'badass' Link looks (the ear piercings in Ocarina of Time were overkill).

Do the tights make OoT Link more 'elitist' or some shit? God Wind Waker fans are like the republican party, I swear.
And these other ones don't follow suit either.

I don't care for the football-head chibi style, but neither do I care about how 'badass' Link looks (the ear piercings in Ocarina of Time were overkill).

If I had to guess, I'd say he likes that you hate it.
You must have hated every Zelda before Wind Waker then...Link was kiddie looking in almost every zelda before OOT though. all the art for LoZ, LTTP, LA...etc had him cartoony looking.

ban all Wii talk from Bore, immediatly
IGN: You just mentioned that the game audience is shrinking and that Nintendo is always looking for ways to entice new players. Is this something that you're thinking about for the new Zelda, too, or is there a separation where that's off limits because the franchise is traditionally hardcore?
Shigeru Miyamoto: I think we do this with Mario and Zelda as well. When we are working on the plans for them, we are trying to come up with ways where we can satisfy our longtime fans and bring new players into the franchises as well. That's something we're always looking at. However, when I get involved in a title, I focus a lot on more experience and the more advanced gameplay elements. If I get into it, there's a tendency for difficulty levels to ramp up so that's something I really have to watch for myself to make sure that I don't do that.
