It's over for Microsoft, period. Microsoft lost their last ace, and that's the end of the 360's hopes and dreams.:lol :lol
It's not hyperbole, it's not fanboy drivel. It is LITERALLY it for 360. Microsoft has nothing left, nothing they can reveal tomorrow would fix the hole now created. There is no reason left for any one, hardcore or casual, to substantively invest in a 360. Except if they want to play Bungie's titles. Which will also come to the PS3 anyway once their Halo contract is up at some point.
The age of Microsoft in the US is done.
Is that a parody of the old Amirox's post?

Sorry, been living under a rock on the gaming side for a few months. What caused the massive spike in PS3 sales? Uncharted 2 couldn't have been that popular.

Wow, that's a lot of blu-ray players sold.
Impressive showing for the PS3.
That top end version of the 360 should really be about 50 bucks cheaper than the PS3 at least if MS is serious about maintaing their sales lead.
The bump was expected but doesn't indicate strong interest from the public. Going off the Top 10, except for Batman, the 360 versions of multiplatform games still outdid the PS3 versions. No strong sales surge to reflect the hardware sales either but there could be from #11 on down but that doesn't seem too likely. I'll stop here since we won't know the full list for a while but the sales were decent but nothing to really brag about. However, once the 11-20 numbers come out, I doubt the story is much different.
Maybe I'm just a dumb xfag but this bump appeared to be a typical price drop bump - not a sign of turning tides or a game changing month.
If someone were to ask me for advice on what they should buy right at this moment I would probably say a PS3 because they are both the same damn system with the samn damn games and one system has a blu-ray player in it. So you might as well buy the one with the free blu ray player if they are going to cost the same.PS3 is where the value is, but I don't think the experiences are the same. I've never played a single multiplayer game with PSN friends, despite the fact that I have 30+ on my list. Whereas I play 360 games with people here almost on a daily basis./casual empiricism

I can't believe the ps3 version of rb sells less than the wii version :/ also low sales all around for the music games. Thought beatles would be a multimillion seller across the three.
Based on completely anecdotal evidence, everyone I know who regularly buys the 360 version of games bought Batman on the PS3 for the exclusive DLC. I wouldn't be surprised if that was a swaying factor, coupled with Batman PS3 actually being more or less equivalent to the 360 version.

Yeah, the chances of this being a sign of changing times is fairly slim (ha! okay, sorry...). Even the gamecube got a pretty decent spike when it dropped in price.
Though to be totally fair, you never know. PSP started kicking all sorts of ass last year in Japan when it got a price drop (and I think it was due to that PSP Go or whatever it's called).

I also think Xbox Live is a lot better than PSN but at least it isn't the complete blowout it was when the gen began. And while honestly something like that matters to the more hardcore portion of the audience like me, I don't think regular people factor this in at all when it comes to buying a new system.
Uncharted 2 is the system's first legitimately great first-party title.???

That's what I was thinking; the PS3 almost outsold the 360 2:1 yet the software sales (outside of AA's numbers) didn't reflect this at all. The only explanation is:Wow, that's a lot of blu-ray players sold.
Uncharted 2 is the system's first legitimately great first-party title.???
i think there's an easy explanation for why the higher sales don't mean higher buyer output, and that's because a lot of gamers are probably catching MGS4 and LBP used.

As someone that sold games for a living, XBL most certainly matters to the mainstream. Its far more easier and intuitive, and it offers stuff like Netflix and (soon) Facebook and Twitter. It's a big deal.
The PS3 has a lot of the same third-party support, but even that is inferior to what the 360 offers (game builds are often smoother, better looking, have larger communities), and Uncharted 2 is the system's first legitimately great first-party title. Microsoft already had Gears and Halo to lean on by this point, and regardless if it's on the PS3, Call of Duty is synonymous with Microsoft's platform as well.

I haven't been wowed by much of anything Sony's first party has been producing this gen outside of Uncharted and Motorstorm 2, but it's not as if MS has been knocking them out of the ballpark either. I've found a lot of the multiplatform stuff to be much more entertaining.

How is Motorstorm 2 compared to the first? Was it a major improvement, or just more of the same? I thought MS1 was kinda terrible, but if the second is a lot better or something I might pick it up this holiday. I've kinda ignored MS2 this entire time.
did Batman PS3 outsell the 360 version?

IMO, Motorstorm 2 is one of the best racing games out there and this is coming from someone that didn't really care for the first one. The core gameplay hasn't been dramatically changed but they tweaked enough to where everything just feels right and the tracks are more interesting this time around, not to mention the loading has been dramatically shortened. You should definitely give it a shot if you haven't played it yet and like those sort of games.
We always knew Rock Band was superior to Guitar Hero, how is that surprising?
What about the online titles like Pixel Junk Eden or Wipeout? I think Sony does pretty well exclusive wise.flower :bow2
Pretty much all the best games this gen are multiplat, but I feel that the ps3 exclusives are definitely more interesting these days. That said, both systems offer enough to own both imo.

I have only played motorstorm 2's demo and that shit was hard. Is the final game as hard as that? :lol Please say yes.
But most of what xbla offers are rereleases and remakes. Yes, you can play Ikuraga on xbla, but I have on Ikuraga on the dreamcast and gc. Sure, I can play Outrun 2006 on xbla, but I have that on xbox 1 and psp. Ditto to Rez and the other highly lauded xlba releases.
Stuff like Shadow Complex on xbla, actually unique and new ip's exclusively for xbla are rare. Most other awesome downloadable titles like Mega Man 9 or Bionic Commando: Rearmed are in no way exclusive to xbla, and in most cases, are better on other platforms due to xbla's shitty d-pad.

Shadow Complex, Geometry Wars, Braid, Castle Crashers, etc.
... Yeah, Pixel Junk is so much better.
But I'll say this about Sony's first party software and/or exclusives though - this year they've got Uncharted 2 and Demon Soul. That's two more games than I want from whatever the hell MS is offering this fall.
Pretty much all the best games this gen are multiplat, but I feel that the ps3 exclusives are definitely more interesting these days. That said, both systems offer enough to own both imo.
With God of War 3 and GT 5 and Uncharted 2, I think the PS3 exclusives have reached parity or nudged ahead slightly but for the longest time it wasn't the case. Especially relative to what people actually want to buy.
Things like Little Big Planet, The Resistance series, or Ratchet and Clank titles have always been sort of over-rated imo on how Sony fans view those series, versus how the general public views them.
I think the general public is more often on target about what is worth playing on the HD systems than the hardcore that populate message boards are since they often aren't basing their opinions on fanboyism but general enjoyment.
There are plenty of over-rated games on the 360 and PS3 that are messageboard favorites that I think are completely over-rated.
The general public sucks; fuck them.
The general public sucks; fuck them.
Pretty much
I think Microsoft blew their wad already for this generation.
From this point on, Sony has better 1st party exclusives coming out unless Microsoft has a lot of aces under their sleeves and that isn't really their policy. I suppose you got Alan Wake, Halo Reach, and probably Gears of War 3 but what else? Especially something with variety. Maybe Forza 3 will blow up. Maybe they can pull Bizarre away one more time to make PGR5 or in my dream world, DICE and Rallisport 3. Sony on the other hand has exclusives of better variety: Uncharted 2, Gran Turismo 5, and God of War 3, among others. Nothing too innovative but there is at least some variety there.
I imagine this is where the nine figure purchase of Rare was supposed to come into play but being as fucking worthless as they are, they're caught with their dicks in their hand.
So because Braid was inevitably ported to the PC, it's somehow excluded? :lol
And Castle Crashers isn't even on PSN yet and only after 360 owners had it for a YEAR.
It's not on PSN, it's a XBLA title (which is what it was developed for). I won't go into all the indie titles developed for XBLA ('Splosion Man) and stuff like Trials HD. And all the awesome ports.
Super Stardust HD is pretty awesome. It was the first PS3 game I purchased.
... but it is no Geometry Wars 2.

So Sony has an action game a racing game and a third person shooter so that makes them more varied than Microsoft cause Microsoft has a third person shooter (2 of them actually), a racing game, and an action game(Fable 3) I dont get that at all.

No, that was just a tech demo Molyneux did for Natal. Fable 2 sold so much that he is working on another installment, but Fable 2 was a rental - at best.
But people who post on message boards aren't basing their opinions on fanboyism.
If a game like Little Big Planet is going to represent the hardcore elite then I would say the hardcore elite sucks. Fuck them.
It works both ways...

How does Little Big Planet of all games represent the hardcore elite? you were already throwing some hate at Demon's Soul. That could work. Then again, we haven't seen the sales; better hold off until we gets some juicy sales data.
But people who post on message boards aren't basing their opinions on fanboyism.
There is a very good portion of the message board audience imo that is driven by fanboyism in the case of certain games and platforms. And that cat creature you named is one of the worst examples of it imo.
Haaaaardly a JRPG.

ya don't need to be throwing around "imo" everywhere. I won't be mixing up your opinion for those of another.
I don't have a reply because I already said that it's fairly obvious whose opinoin to consider.

He said it might have Natal. Im pretty sure he said its with a controler though.
I think he means that it's more reminiscent of a dungeon crawler a la King's Field.
Haaaaardly a JRPG.
It's made in Japan and it's an rpg.
???
kittonwy has been far surpassed in terms of sfag fanboyism and has been for some time. That's right, they are getting so bad that he's becoming one of the more rational Sony fans by comparison.
How does Little Big Planet of all games represent the hardcore elite? you were already throwing some hate at Demon's Soul. That could work. Then again, we haven't seen the sales; better hold off until we gets some juicy sales data.
It's a game that sold nowhere near the amount of hype or messageboard traffic generated that you would think it would have. And to boot I didn't think it was essentially a good platformer, the very thing it was supposed to be. And yet I still believe it was the top 5 or top 3 on the GAF goty list. So in that sense I side with the public. It was just another game among many of that year. Neat feature list and online sharing feature. Not an actual great game to play.
I could also name some 360 examples if you want equal balance.
I always like to throw in "imo" because I always like to ground my posts and reinforce that it is indeed just my opinion and one opinion among a million potential opinions rather than the truth of the land. That's my posting quirk. It may be redundant but that's the way I roll.
PS3 barely outsold the Wii, and didn't beat the 360 by an impressive margin either. MS shouldn't be worried, the PS3 still has no games to sell it
I can't believe list wars broke out on EB. Let's get a hold of ourselves here.
140k is a pretty significant margin.
It would be impressive if it outsold the 360 by that much every month from here on, but one month isn't really a big deal.
I can't believe list wars broke out on EB. Let's get a hold of ourselves here.
To be fair it was Willco's doing.
Leprosy, I say.
As far as future software devlopment, I'm not nearly as bleak on the future of the 360 versus the PS3 as some. People have always said that the PS3 exclusives would pull them ahead and that has never been the case. What has pulled them ahead is price parity and potentially more features out of the box meaning a blu-ray player. I think people tend to overplay the strength of the sony exclusives.
In the first quarter alone Microsoft has Mass Effect 2, Alan Wake, and Splinter Cell.
That being said it's a fact that Sony has a stronger first party stable of developers than Microsoft who has had to rely on buying exclusives rather than creating them from their stable outside of Halo of course. That is a weakness and something Microsoft really needs to improve on.
Wrap this up, T EXP.

With this month's NPD figures showing that Harmonix's The Beatles: Rock Band outsold Neversoft's Guitar Hero V, Beatles publisher MTV Games wants to set the record straight on some misconceptions about music games and the Activision/MTV battle.
"We outsold them two-to-one on a revenue basis and we outperformed on a unit basis as well, despite the fact that they had an eight-day advantage, and were giving away free software," said MTV Games general manager Scott Guthrie to Gamasutra, referencing Activision's offer of a free copy of Van Halen with Guitar Hero V. "At the end of the day, The Beatles: Rock Band clearly outperformed them, and we're not done yet. We're anticipating a very successful holiday period."
The Beatles outsold Guitar Hero V by about 20 percent on a unit basis, according to further NPD data sourced by IndustryGamers, but Guthrie's claim to Gamasutra of doubled revenue suggests Beatles consumers may have been willing to spend more on the game's multi-instrument bundle -- suggesting in turn that the game may have attracted more new consumers who don't already have plastic instruments in their home.

No need to declare it to show how cool you are on a gaming message board, we got the hint all those other months. You are truly the man now, dog!
Pinball hall of fame had like no copies shipped in the first place. I haven't seen a single copy on a shelf ever
uncharted 2 is not average joe mainstream appeal exclusive? motorstorm isn't average joe exclusive?
Oh and I don't want to defend but PSP software sales numbers, but they are getting more pointless by the month as the numbers aren't including the PSN store and now that is the ONLY place PSPGo people are buying games and where a decent amount of normal PSP owners buy games. I don't have any idea what a game like GT PSP will sell, but I'm sure it sold more than 18k.

The first one wasn't obviously because it didn't sell to them even. Why would the 2nd one suddenly be? I dunno, Motorstorm didn't sell millions
Ask some random dude on the street what's motorstorm or Uncharted and they'll go ??? but they might have heard of HALO or maybe even GEARS OF WAR.
The PS3 number in and of itself is not overly impressive, considering the price drop and model change, but neither is the 360 number in the face of Pro SKU liquidation and a price drop on the Elite. ODST doesn't appear to be much of a system seller, which isn't surprising since the Halo crowd has been entrenched for years.
I'm not exactly giddy if I'm Sony, but Microsoft shouldn't be comfortable either. 350K over 5 weeks with a price, shall we say, reshuffling isn't a strong performance. I agree with what a poster earlier in the thread said, Microsoft may need to make a bolder statement to regain their price advantage over Sony (among similar SKUs), and probably shave $20 or so off the Arcade. $50 would be better, but I sort of doubt the arcade gets to $149 until its final price drop.
Taking out the most important feature of the game will cripple it. Gran Turismo PSP is an exercise in "rope a dope."
Also, yeah, the numbers will be higher than 18k. Question is by how much. Until there is a solid, reliable way of tracking unique downloads off of PSN from an independent source, we have nothing reliable to go off of.
i think the chances of seeing ninja gaiden 3 are very low. hope i'm wrong :'(
Well if Sony did it, good for them. I don't know how they suddenly got a public who didn't care about the first one interested in a sequel, but congrats to them.

NOW WITH MORE LOADING AND TEARING FOR ALL
I just pulled one, 600k or more by next NPD.

Also just kind of a boring game in general. It's like the smaller battles from the first one with the lamer AI from the second one and absolutely no good boss battles. Come to think of it, i'm trading that shit in towards borderlands tomorrow...

omg forget all those numbers I posted, none of them are confirmed (meaning they're all from the chartzzzzz).
So, this is what being an sfag feels like. smh.
This is what happens when you rely on news aggregation sites. When I found out it was too late.
iirc, the only exclusive that outsold Fable II on the PS3 is MGS4.

But in software we absolutely dominate...2.5 million software units in top 10...Halo ODST :bow2
