like shuri said, competition is good. I don't see why people are making a huge deal.

Competition is when they sell the game on all services and the services compete through pricing and features.
It's a marketing strategy.

This is like saying AT&T when they had the iphone exclusively were not being competitive by keeping the iphone within their line of phones only and no one else's.
It's a marketing strategy. And a very effective one at that.
Steam shills are disgusting, the no steam no sale crowd all need a giant fucking enema

Yeah, just like Crysis 2
oh wait
:(
i won't buy it unless it is on steam, because i'd rather have all my library in one place with one login using the most refined distribution platform than add yet another dd agent to my machine for maybe one or two games. i'd think differently if i DIDN'T have like 1000 games to play, courtesy of STEAM SUMMER SALE OMG
also :bow eel o'brian :bow2
I had big probs with BFBC2 on Steam, got caught in some weird endless update loop with Punkbuster, so I took the key and registered it with EA's Download Manager and it worked fine. I'd imagine there'd be the same busted patching/updating problem on BF3 since they've chosen to honor their demon pact with Punkbuster once again. I have no problem buying stuff on other services, but I have to admit it does irk the anal retentive in me to not have series games like Mass Effect (bought from D2D) and Mass Effect 2 available for download on the same service.
Is Steam something on 360? If not, what are you guys talking about?
Research firm Baird believes publishers 'are receptive to a Steam rival'http://www.develop-online.net/news/38239/Battlefield-3-wont-appear-on-Steam-retailer-says (http://www.develop-online.net/news/38239/Battlefield-3-wont-appear-on-Steam-retailer-says)
The splintered relationship between Electronic Arts and Valve appears to have worsened, with Gamestop now claiming that Battlefield 3 will be blocked from Steam.
The upcoming EA DICE shooter will be available digitally on other platforms, including Gamestop’s, an unnamed executive at retailer also said.
Financial research firm Baird recently held a meeting with Gamestop’s management, and in its subsequent report says: “The upcoming EA title Battlefield 3 will be sold as a download through GameStop, but not through Steam.”
Baird has since told Develop that it had heard the claim directly from Gamestop executives. EA and Valve have been approached for comment.
“Given Steam's dominance – and insistence on users downloading a Steam client application – publishers are likely to be receptive to a competitive alternative,” the Baird report read.
The new claims come amid widespread speculation that some future EA games won’t appear on Valve’s network.
Electronic Arts recently positioned itself as a Valve rival in the digital PC space, having launched its own Origin service.
David DeMartini, who heads up the operation, made assurances that EA is not inclined to block its games from any distribution platform.
The publisher also claimed that Valve removed Crysis 2 – an EA Partners game – from Steam due to imposed "business terms".
“This was not an EA decision or the result of any action by EA,” the firm claimed.
Grass is always greener
I bet I could find some publishers who don't want a confer delivery service run by a large publisher.
have they said if rush mode will come back in this game? the majority of the community seems to hate it, but i loved it because it provided so many opportunities to pull off some crazy shit and feel like a super bad ass.
Have they already made known all the modes that'll be in the game? Kinda hoping for some more standard modes like TDM, DM and CTF.
“The upcoming EA title Battlefield 3 will be sold as a download through GameStop, but not through Steam.”
it looks like a continuation of the ideas from Bad Company 2 and i am OK with that.
Bad Company 2 combined with Battlefield 2 is a good thing to me.
TBH it doesn't look very impressive sans animation. Console hardware strikes again.

fluid animations in a fps? Get out of here!
EA offers games, including Battlefield 3, to all major digital download sites. In doing so, our goal is to not only reach the widest possible global audience with our games, but also to provide ongoing customer support, patches and great new content. We are intent on providing Battlefield 3 players with the best possible experience no matter where they purchase or play the game, and are happy to partner with any download service that does not restrict our ability to connect directly with consumers.
For more on our policy to offer games to any major third party download service, please read here: http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/7372195.page
Gamers can pre-order Battlefield 3 at Origin.com as well as over 100 digital retailers worldwide. EA offers games to all major download services. Unfortunately, Steam has adopted a set of restrictive terms of service which limit how developers interact with customers to deliver patches and other downloadable content. No other download service has adopted these practices.
We are intent on providing Battlefield 3 players with the best possible experience no matter where they purchase or play their game, and are happy to partner with any download service that does not restrict our ability to connect directly with our consumers. We hope to work out an agreement where Steam can carry Battlefield 3; meanwhile, gamers can pick from the more than 100 digital retailers listed at http://www.battlefield.com/digitaldownload, or go to http://www.origin.com.
Battlefield was cool back in 2002; if I want an outdated FPS franchise running on fumes, Steam's already got Call of Duty. :kylielaff
He said the franchise was outdated.
Goddamn, you take anything negative about Battlefield so fucking serious.

Battlefield 3 looks yawn-tastic. Rage is the new sweetness, already got that preordered.

I think you got that backwards. Rage looks like shit for being a new id game.

Err...no, actually. It's really fun and the graphics are amazing.

you said the "new" sweetness, but BF3 tech trumps rage easily.
why are we acting like you can't play both bf3 and rage, or even that they have anything in common beyond the fact that they're both FPS games?

The megatexturing in Rage looks absolutely incredible in the wide open areas.

No idea, SantaC seems to have some irrational hatred towards Rage and/or id. He's been calling vaporware for the past few years and now that it's actually coming out it "looks terrible".
This isn't the BF3 thread, this is the "EA sucks balls, countdown till Origin flops and BF3 is on Steam" thread.

fun to troll you since you're sensitive to Rage. :teehee
I admit that RAGE looks pretty impressive for being developed solely for consoles, but hardly "amazing" or groundbreaking in 2011.

Apparently you're the one that's flustered since you've been ragging on it for years and can't bring yourself to stop. :smug

I have? You really follow my post history. Anyway, I liked id for quake1, q2 and q3. Then I cannot say i liked their games after that.

It's not that hard to follow. I've posted in almost all of the Rage threads on EB and the only person who ever comes in and is negative 100% of time about it is you.
