Yeah, but you'll have to rush! I think I'm moving back to the USA next year. If you bring some of Mr. Gundam's beer, there's a seat at our table for you! :lol

I still have a hard time remembering what all these Americanized Chinese dishes are. I still have to google them everytime someone mentions one. Everything just seems like whatever was left in the cupboard/refrigerator thrown together with some oil.

General Tso in particular appears to have been the moodiest general in Chinese history. His dish is different at any restaurant I've even been to; I can only assume its a sign of his caprice.

I tries dominos new artisan pizza, pretty damn good! I got the salami and peppers one.
Wandered around Ebisu until I found something enticing: a shop with Minoh Beer! They didn't have the W-IPA, but they did have a lovely Pale Ale. I had okonomiyaki with shrimp, pork, octopus, two fat oysters and an over-medium fried egg on top.

How is Italian food in Japan? Is it similar to Americanized Italian food?
Since I've never been, what is ethnic food like in Japan, can you get Mexican/Indian/Ethiopian/Greek/etc or is it just mostly other Asian countries?
How is Italian food in Japan? Is it similar to Americanized Italian food?In Tokyo, apparently you can get just about anything.

I want to believe that mexican food in Japan would be really awesome.I'd like to believe that too, but it is not so. The first place I tried to eat Mexican food at in Japan, it was a lovely, Mexican-themed environment, a spacious patio under the sun, brick and stucco, Spanish colonial façade everywhere. Then the food arrived. It looked great. A build-your-own taco plate with tortillas, sour cream, etc. WOW! Except, it turned out the meat hadn't been warmed; they thought it was supposed to be room temperature. And it wasn't sour cream, it was whipped cream. No joke.
Made some more of that Jamie Oliver spanish-style chicken, only with stuffing. Lemon slices under the skin, whole lemon + onion + parsley + herbs inside, pepper salami on top (no chorizo :( ). Garnished w/ gremolata, potatoes boiled first then roasted in same tray. It was pretty great, though I saved most of it for the next day.

Five Guys IS McDonalds.
They've got really good burgers and fries, bit on the pricey side but I think it's worth it for that extra step in quality. Doesn't compare to the top-tier local joints, but that's the case for anything.
Five Guys picked up the top vote for fast-food burgers for the past two years, by the way:

mmmm If you come to Houston you gotta try Diana's mom's pupusas. I've been to so many pupuserias and nothing comes close. Perfect mixture of pork and cheese and a nice crispy/flaky outside that gives a nice crunch when you bite into it. So damn good.
What's the purple stuff in the first pic? Is the yellow item polenta or v. flat cornbread?
I made a coconut curry with paneer, cauliflower, celery root, potatoes and chicken over brown rice. :rock

I dunno how cheap TJ's taco mix is, but I find that just chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper, plus fresh garlic and fresh onions, makes a really tasty taco. It's also easier to get the flavor you want, since you're not working from someone else's pre-balanced mix.cumin's definitely the big one in a mexican situation. i also like to season with ground corriander, paprika, sugar & cocoa.

Right - it's a sucker's game for rubes, most of the time. The Emperor's New Clothes phenomenon kicks in afterward I'm sure, where they daren't even admit to each other that hey, it was good but just a fucking steak.
But worth it if it lifts their flaccid organs long enough to give the missus one I suppose
My mom in some crazy delicious lentil soup tonight.

Stopped in at Fuji Bakery in the International District (Seattle) today. When we lived in San Jose, there was a little Japanese bakery next to the Japanese supermarket on Saratoga. I think it was "Clover."

Milk Stick
Baguette filled with our homemade vanilla milk cream.
Escargot
Shaped like its name suggests, this brioche pastry is made with earl grey tea and almond cream.
Wild Salmon Sandwich
Baguette bread with Washingtonian wild salmon, avocado, capers, red onions, and homemade vinaigrette.
The sandwich is incredible.
haha, you will be so fat, so quickly
Loaded with chunks of pork :rock
As far as I could tell, they're silkworm larvae. They were deep fried. They weren't too bad, unless I thought carefully about what I was eating. Like eating shell-on fried shrimp, except the filling is nutty.

YUM. And I've been wanting to try bugs! They've been difficult to find in the Bay Area though. :(
You should come on down to the south bay lots of the Polynesian/Filipino places serve up bugs. There's even some Indian places in Sunnyvale that do cricket curry.

The place also had dog soup, but there are some lines I'm unwilling to cross.
