Most overrated film ever.
Great film
Has nothing to do with you. It's not my fault that you gravitate towards the massively overrated films, particular of the Scorcese variety. You're young, so I excuse it.
Question: Would you place Spider-Man 2 over it?
Your taste in movies is pretty terrible, Willco
Raging Bull was pretty overrated.
I don't know, I might take a snaggletooth Mary-Jane over a 12 year old Jodie Foster.
What about today's Jodie Foster? drool
HIS HEAD WAS A SKULL AND IT WAS ON FIRE
People will be quoting that years from now while The Departed sits in bargain bins and we all laugh about how it was the worst Oscar win since A Beautiful Mind.
It was all like..."kkkkhhhhhh."
That shit makes me hot.
It's on AMC. Just went on commercial. It's pretty good so far; nice pace, and De Niro is awesome. I love how you get a sense of the city as he drives around
Commercial break. This is great.
De Niro is great in this movie. He's nailing the odd, social outcast role without being over dramatic, cliche, or contrived.

You mean, like Tobey MacGuire?
Did he meet Harvey Keitel's character yet?No.
Dude, it's not worth watching unedited. I can't fathom why they'd even make an edited version.
Am I a pedo for getting a slight hard on when Jodie Foster gets ready to blow Travis? :lol
I've gotta watch this movie again. Didn't really impress me the first time around outside of De Niro's performance. I personally enjoyed Raging Bull much more.
spoiler (click to show/hide)Nothing's in stone, but the post-shootout scenes are largely perceived as Travis' own dreams, not what actually occured after the shoot-out.[close]
One more thing: PD, did you catch Marty's little cameo in the film?
I don't know what he looks like lolz
I don't know what he looks like lolz
IIRC, he's in the backseat of the cab talking about his wife fucking a black guy up in the apartment and he's talking about how he's going to kill them or some such.
I didn't saw Scorcese is overrated, but most certainly some of his films are, Solo! And do think that Spielberg has better range, a better track record and is by far and away a better technical director than Scorcese. That's about it.
I think Spielberg is just a better storyteller. Even to projects he's just attached to in terms of production and story, like The Poltergeist, rock. He's got more films that people love than anyone, that's for sure. Spielberg has covered way more genres than Scorcese.
My problem with Scorcese is that he's got a couple of horribly overrated films and several underrated gems. I can't call the man overrated when he doesn't have an Oscar, though. My favorite Scorcese film usually gets the shaft anyway.
THE AVIATOR.
I loved it. Should be the Holy Bible for anyone wanting to do a biopic.
people tend to think Scorsese = crime films, and thats true to an extent, but the man also made Kundun, Bringing Out The Dead, After Hours, The King of Comedy, Age of Innocence, The Aviator, etc.
Casino and Goodfellas were better than The Aviator? :lol
Kids.
Willco, The Departed = Cape Fear of the 00's. It's Marty doing a commerical flick + a remake, and excelling at both.
There are plenty of people who feel the same way, both young and old.

Cape Fear was at least better than the original!
You haven't even seen The Departed, so please keep the hate down to a minimum.
Spielberg is far more varied come on. He started off as more of a thrill director, making summer movies as well as the types of movies people would go to in order to be entertained. But then he's equally as impressive with far more serious content such as Schindler's List, The Color Purple, and the criminally underrated Amistad. Then he's also very impressive with pure sci-fi projects such as Minority Report, AI, etc.It amazes how Spielberg can in a sense have two totally different and un-connected fanbases and yet succeed with them both over the years. His drama film buff crowd and the ones in it for Jurassic Park & Indiana Jones and the last crusade.
Raging Bull is good, but not TEH BEST SPORTS FILM EVAR like some people proclaim.
:shh
Uhh, that looks pretty authentic to me, if stylized. ???
That would be Brian's Song :(

It was terrible in terms of looking fake. The movie seems to be this realistic take on boxing up the actual matches look like a WWE match where one wrestler hits a guy 10 times, then the other guy hits him 10 times, etc.
It still looks great though
That would be Brian's Song :(
Not really. Raging Bull is still pretty popular. Brian's Song has kind of died out. Most of your mom's generation probably don't know what it is and most of our generation definitely don't. Raging Bull is up there with Hoosiers in terms of exposure, though.
No, you missed my point and I misunderstood you. I thought you were saying that Brian's Song was the overrated film everyone claims is TEH BEST SPORTS MOVIE EVAR. And I was pointing out that it is simply too obscure for you average street walker to really have that title. Raging Bull is almost too obscure as well, but gets enough cable play to perpetuate that.
The real answer in terms of the most overrated sports movie proclaimed as the greates ever is easily Rocky, even though I do like it.
I hate that REMEMBER THE TITANS formula Disney now applies to any sports movie.
Find a true sports story, about being an UNDERDOG. Introduce a coach that HAS A TROUBLED PAST OR INNER TURMOIL. Create CONFLICT ON THE TEAM. Have the team rise to the occasion BY LEARNING A LESSON THAT THE COACH APPLIES TO HIMSELF. Win THE BIG GAME AGAINST ALL ODDS. BASED ON A TRUE STORY.
Oh I know lol. But wouldn't you say Titans is better than the rest? :-*
Don't forget the lesser ones like GLORY ROAD and COACH CARTER and GRIDIRON GANG and WE ARE MARSHALL and crap like that.We Are Marshall is the worst cheesy sports film to ever come out.
Dudes, I will say for the millionth time, Raging Bull is NOT a boxing/sports movie. Jake LaMotta could have been in any other profession and it wouldn't change the film fundamentally. It's a drama about a self-destructive loser first, a biopic second, and a sports film a distant third.
