Transformers, which was the equal to a ton of fun in whatever Cybertron unit of measurement that Autbots use, was cockblocked by J.J. Abrams before the movie started. This here teaser, for Abrams' hush-hush monster movie codenamed "Cloverfield", is probably the best teaser I can ever remember in recent memory. It generated a buzz and an insane amount of interest just in our small theater - it's that awesome. The concept looks incredible and it comes out of my birthday to boot. Here's hoping it's solid.

Not really. I guess maybe because it features a monster and J.J. Abrams, but that's like saying Jurassic Park is Jaws with dinosaurs.

But what the monster actually is looks like it's going to be some big mystery, which makes me think of Lost.

What, Blair Witch Project as a disaster movie? That's not a concept, that's an abortive film school project.

Given what a clusterfuck Lost is I doubt this will be anything worthwhile.

It really hasn't been done on this scale in America. Sure, it's POV with HD handycams and whatnot, but it's obviously got a budget behind, as evident by the pyrotechnics and STATUE OF LIBERTY HEAD that crashes on the pavement. I think the concept is gold.

That explosion early in the trailer was damned effective at getting my attention. And everybody in the theater was left wanting more when not even the title was shown.

it will piss fans off to no end. Remember the writers of Transformers are the same writer's behind the Trek reboot. They have been saying while on the transformers press circuit that this trek will be a huuuge action adventure with tons of explosions and fighting unlike the previous ones lol.

Wrath of Khan and First Contact were good sci-fi flicks, but the rest were pretty much garbage. Oh yeah, The Undiscovered Country was good.

But casting other people as Kirk and Spock in an age where people still remember Shatner and Nimoy for those two career-defining roles, not to mention Nimoy apparently has a cameo, is going to backfire. And it's going to backfire huge.

Dude, we're not talking about Trekkies. Captain Kirk is a fairly recognizable person in pop culture. The biggest Star Trek films were not fueled by Trekkies, but average movie goers. Those people recognize Shatner as Kirk - not Damon.

I bet dollars to dougnuts that when Matt Damon appears on screen as Kirk, people will laugh. Straight up laugh.

From what I can tell I don't think Nimoy will be playing Spock. He'll have a cameo as something random. Just for a "omg itz nimoy" thing.

And it is going to be VERY hard to sell the new actors. But Abrams "dream" for the franchise is to turn it into James Bond, make it the Captain Kirk franchise and recast Kirk whenever the current actor gets too old. It's damn risky since unlike Bond or Super Hero's it has had one actor in the role for 40 years.

Even though I am excited I do not expect the audience will buy it up easily. Matt Damon in that gold fuzzy little top and black space pants from the 60's will be a veeeeeery hard sell.

Sony owns the rights to Godzilla, not Paramount. It will be "Godzilla like" I think, as in a big ol' monster crushing a city type of deal, just a original creature. Paramount doesn't have any control over the Toho monsters, Sony has 100% rights to use 'em.

Which is so utterly stupid, because if whomever is cast to play Spock (Brody confirmed?) is not like ten times better than Nimoy, his cameo will only serve to remind audience of the original crew. I think that's why they're not giving Shatner a cameo; his presence will upstage Damon for sure.

the teaser looks great. war of the world sans the ending was awesome and if they gaet the same vibe in this movie then it could be great.

eh, trek reboot with nostalgia and "big" actors is still 100x better than enterprise or more 24th century shit. Also I think your Shatner idea makes sense, because the dude was apparently pissed he hasn't been offered a cameo.

Also we'll know if the Damon, Brody (which IGN seemed damned confident about)..etc stuff will be true soon. The cast for the film will be revealed at panel during comic con. Abrams and friends will do one of those Q & A panel things for it seems and let the lid off on the plot/casting/etc

But the fantastic Michael Giacchino (Lost, The Incredibles) is doing the score

And DePalma's original Mission: Impossible adaptation was about a billion times better than Abrams. I mean, his entry was better than John Woo's, but that's like saying his film was better than Batman & Robin - it's not really a compliment.

DePalma built legitimate tension in the first one, something Abrams never accomplished. I don't even know what the fuck Abrams movie was about. I've already forgotten it and it's been like - what? - a year or so? Two? That's so bad.

Also, all the stunts were a billion times better than any in Abrams' film. You know DePalma's was better because Mission: Impossible was so much apart of 90s pop culture. How many parodies of Ethan Hunt's classic Langley hacking sequence did we see? Maybe a billion? There's nothing close to that in Mission: Impossible III.
