Burn Notice

Anybody watching this on USA Network? OMFG THE TEEVEE

It's not bad. It's not GOOD - it could be if the writers and directors and the network actually had enough faith in the scripts themselves without having to resort to all sorts of editing tricks and wacky background music in every scene. But if you can get around all that, and I understand this is a big "if" for the jaded critiques of EB (it's like I can see TVC and Cyanista turning their noses up already)... it's entertaining summer viewing.

Story is: Michael (Jeffery Donovan) is a spook of some sort. He's not government, exactly... but what he is the audience doesn't know. He's in the middle of doing a money transfer to some Afrikans when his people on the cell phone all of a sudden tell him he's been "burnt" - fired - and that's it. So he makes it to Florida where he tries to figure out who burned him. His ex-GF, Fiona (Gabrielle Anwar, looking like the Dagney she's always been but what's up with the lips? Why do women do that to themselves?) is an ex-IRA agent, and Sam (Bruce Campbell) is a washed-up ex-pat who might be helping Michael or might be narcing him out. Oh and Michael's mom (Sharon "Cagney" Gless) is a pain in the ass.

The thing is, the government is willing to let Michael chill in Florida - albeit with heavy surveillance watching his every move - but if he leaves the state, they'll be after him like white on rice. So he hangs out, reluctantly helping out the downtrodden and making a little bit of money.

It's nothing serious - very wisecracky and breeze-y. But I know EB has some big Bruce Campbell fans (Willco! holla back!) so you might want to check it out.

Yeah I mean don't get your hopes up or anything but you might want to check it. I mean, the fact that Fiona has a fucking ridiculous Irish accent in the pilot and doesn't in the second episode (explained away by "well I'm in Florida now, I can't be soundin' like a leprechaun") shows they don't take shit too serious like.

is it a comedy or action/drama or both? either way it looks interesting, I might check it out after a few episodes come out.

It's both. It's a little of everything, maybe a little too much for its' own good - but still has an odd kind of charm about it. The three leads are pretty fucking good - Fiona, or "Fi" has they call her - she really likes to fuck shit up. Michael is a wisecracking, MacGuyver-esque badass who is still not quite infallible and looks good in a tight t-shirt, and Sam? It's fucking BRUCE CAMPBELL, you should at least be torrenting it like Willco.

He's got a bit of camelknuckle in that pic, let me get a better one.

btw, the official USA bio of his character describes him as "Handsome with a good-natured grin, Sam (Bruce Campbell) is a former Navy Seal, Military Intel Operative, and all-around Cold Warrior."

SO FUCK YOU MY MAN

Psych sucks.

This show is mostly a comedy but the one episode I saw (I think second one) was more about criminals.  Has a lot of senseless parts to the story which are more to make fun of spy story ideas.  The interesting character developments are when they need to find out in 10 seconds how to kill five people and explain a guy's blown up car and figure out how drunk somebody they heard of 10 years ago is.  It's very fun to watch actually.  I was about to make a thread about it.

YES! :hyper

Check out "Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead" if you haven't already for more of her.

No idea. I only really watch a handful of shows.

Thanks for the heads-up.  Downloading episodes 1 and 2 now...

I'm getting tired of the wrasslin' (it's far beyond stale and after the WWE's "9/11" last month, it's just not the same), so maybe it's time to check out some of these shows I've missed out on.  I've barely seen any of shows like 24, Lost, Prison Break, etc.  But this show seems like it might be more my style anyway.

A 16-year-old teenage co-worker (she's a chick) was talking about it today, so I can only assume its getting watched if her ilk knows about it
