It's nice to know that FoC is really dumb, if not exactly equally dumb, on all subjects.  Much like his crude prejudiced views, this issue could be solved if he tried to actually read something, but Lo, the distinguished mentally-challenged, Lo.

I guess if it still emulates snes games it should do well.

How are the UMD movies doing anyway. Remember when people on GAF thought they would take off.  :lol

I was kinda hoping for an aesthetic redesign (clamshell and maybe a coating that won't leave a billion fingerprints from my greasy Italian fingertips) but this seems like it'll fix the numerous hardware flaws that burdened my experience with the old PSP.

The new PSP will be 33% lighter. It also will have the ability to output high-quality video, to a TV, for instance. Users will be able to connect the PSP to a bigger monitor and share their photos and videos.
Now I can play my playstation one games on my TV. It's about damn time.

The PSP redesign will be available in September in Piano Black and Ice Silver. A PSP Entertainment Pack will include the Ice Silver version, Daxter, the UMD Family Guy collection, a 1GB memory stick, and will put gamers back $199.
More UMD movies!! And to think the $5 bin at frys was already full of them.

I didn't know about that.  Would that affect how games are played?  A ram increase is pretty unusual for a refresh.  I don't recall any recent console refresh that has had more ram that the original revision.

FoC, of course. I suspect the additional RAM is being used as extra cache for the UMD to improve battery life and access speed.

64 MB versus 32 MB system RAM. GAF has links to multiple sources confirming.

Comparing PSP games to PS1 games is distinguished mentally-challenged but DC games still look better than PSP, no?  PSP might be more poweful than a DC but it's constrained by issues such as battery life and probably the lower budgets for portable games.

there's not a DC out there that could wholly deliver the graphics of Daxter, Brave Story, Tekken DR, God of WarPSP, the two GTA games, or Wipeout Pure -- and that's at 222 mHz (albeit at 480x272 versus 640x480). At 333 mHz, the PSP is a mid-fi PS2. The DC is a 200mHz system clock 16MB RAM box compared to the PSP at 333mHz 32/64MB RAM. There's a fair bit of apples and oranges: the PSP seems to consistently use 16-bit color ala the GC as opposed to the DC which had many games in 32-bit color; the PSP is capable of far more effects and roughly 2x the geometry, but the DC seemed to have better texture compression. They're roughly comparable, but overall, it's DC < PSP < PS2.

The DC's 3d fighter should look at least equivalent to TK:DR if you shrink them down to the size of a PSP screen.  There are no equivalents to the other games you mentioned since the DC got such weak support.  The DC racers and sport games seem to have more polygons and sharper textures in general than PSP equivalents.  Is Brave Story a Japanese title?  I haven't heard much about it.

Have you played a DC game recently? The poly counts in its racing games, Lemans excluded, are REALLY low compared to most PSP racers, especially in the backgrounds. The PSP doesn't get a whole lot of really dedicated development, either.

No, I rarely play old games or systems.  I'm a geek for new tech which is why backwards compatibility don't mean much to me and I constantly have to upgrade my PC.  You're probably right.  DC games just looked really good back then because of its weak competition.

Don't forget that DC also had pretty great image quality.  PS2 games looked "uglier" than DC games for quite a while because of that.

uh, the DC's image quality isn't so great anymore because it's full of dithering, it's quite ugly when you try to watch it on an HDTV that has a VGA port

and also, 64 MB of RAM in a new system revision? but how the hell will this be taken advantage of in games? isn't like, the last PSP game ever made supposed to play without hiccups on the first PSP ever assembled?

we aren't talking about color depth --  a lot of DC games ran with 16-bit color. we're talking about overall image stability -- a lack of obvious dot crawl and visible interlacing. the output signal filter on the DC was great.

I doubt that it'll be so easy to pirate on the new PSP.  They probably came up with a revision in order to drive up software sales.  PSP software sales are ridiculously low for such a big userbase.

I don't know what you call it but the graphics become little blocks sometimes when certain effects are used on the PSP.

Since you can also use the system's onboard memory to load parts of UMD games, there loading times will be faster AND will not be as much of a strain on the battery, therefore lasting longer.

Slightly smaller+better buttons+longer battery life+faster loading+MUTHA FUCKING TV OUT YEAH = Bought, bought, and BOUGHT.  My hacked PSP isn't going anywhere though, not unless someone finds a way to hack this new model.

Again, I would like an exact figure as to how much the battery life is being extended by all these measures.  If it's something substantial like, say, another five hours, then I could definitely be persuaded to upgrade.

If anyone knew that, it would have been said already.  I highly doubt it will be extended by five hours.  For me the main selling point is the TV out.

19% slimmer...when you think about it, the difference in size is not, like, hugely big.  I bet it feels a heckuva lot lighter, though - 33%!  But I still think they should have done a bit more of a redesign just to get people's attention a bit more.

Oh, definitely.  It's stupid that they didn't even attempt to change anything up.  I would have at least liked to have a seen a clamshell-style design, but it's no big deal to buy on those clamshell-style folding screen covers anyway.
