I think this has more to do with people who smoke it beyond a 'recreational' capacity. Still, even 1 or 2 = as many as 10 freakin cigarettes yikes.

What do you define as "recreational" usage? According to the study one joint is equal to around 5 cigarettes, so while I don't fall prey to any hysteria how does one deny the harmful effects of this stuff? 5 cigs a month isn't going to kill anyone, but that builds up.

Same with drinking. There's nothing wrong with drinking in moderation. But when you start abusing it, drinking multiple beers each day - you're going to damage your liver. Plain and simple. There's nothing "square" about saying that.

Id GUESS recreational is a few times a week. I dont smoke so im not sure what they consider recreational. I will say my drinking certainly isnt recreaional. I love booze. I drink scotch, brandy, bourbon, and vodka until I fall asleep some nights. Its awesome. I make up for it by not drinking soda muhaha.

I used to be like you PD, all naive about how to deal with being an adult, but now I know that NOTHING compares to the dimension booze can send you to.

Would it be fair to say you drink enough to suffer from liver damage problems in the future? If so, does the momentary pleasure justify the long term consequence?

Like I said I'm not saying drinking alcohol is bad PERIOD. But is there anyone who'd argue that over doing it has poor consequences for the body's health?

Would you guys agree that smoking cigarettes is a "bad" thing for the body?

Who smokes a joint alone, though? Unlike cigarettes, a joint is often shared between 2-4 people.

I don't think it's harmless - I have a really hard time getting over respiratory infections and my hair smells like pot sometimes

. Still, I could outrun any of my cigarette smoking friends any day of the week, and many of them haven't been smoking as long as I have. No one's adding poison to the marijuana cigarettes.

While I personally would rather smoke a bong than a joint, my roommates are quite content with rolling a jay or a blunt and smoking it by themselves. Professional stoners!

I won't argue that smoking ganja is harmless, but I'm not going to try to quantify "oh smoking this much pot = smoking this many cigarettes" because that's a hysterical argument to be used when the DARE commercials are losing their effectiveness.

I wish they would do some real studies. I thought everyone already knew this and accepted it? I mean, the point is, a recreational marijuana user doesn't damage their lungs nearly as much as an average cigarette smoker because quite simply, they don't smoke as much.

You could smoke a bowl a day and if that equals 5 cigarettes, you're still smoking way less than the average cigarette smoker.

its like fried chicken vs baked chicken.

Sadly some people dont appreciate vaproizing because it doesnt have that horrible lung burn like smoking does. because that feeling isnt there, they feel they arent getting as high - when they really are.
