Valkyrie of the Battlefield on PlayStation 3

Quote
The game's battle system employs third-person shooting with strategy RPG elements. This is done by switching between two modes: command mode and action mode. In the former, you've got an overhead map of the battlefield and you direct your units to destinations. No word if this is like Ogre Battle movement or Final Fantasy Tactics movement. In action mode, you'll have complete control over your character and dole out pain according to how many AP (action points, we presume) have been allotted to said character. It sounds like an interesting genre-mix, so we'll hold off on judgment until more info arrives.

Nice to see that japanese studios can produce some fantastic-looking next-gen content that also has loads of very nice artistic qualities.

yes, can't wait for Sega's special event before TGS where they'll inevitably unveil videos of this

it will probably be nearly as impressive as White Knight Story

I somehow doubt that.

I'm really interested in what Nagoshi has up his sleeve for the PS3... I'm guessing Ryu ga Gotoku 3 at the very least.

I had an idea for a game similar to this after watching the last battle of Saving Private Ryan one day.  It was a strategy game / FPS where you were given an intelligence report containing an estimate of the enemy forces you faced along with their current position and movement.  And possible deployments against you.  You'd then set a general strategy giving teams (which can consist of only one person) tasks, setting their positions, fall-back points, etc. before the battle.  During the battle you'd fight in first person mode as any of your men while being able to jump back to your commander to make battle adjustments (but word can only be passed if people are in range to hear you or you have to send messengers/radio).  There'd be some sort of unit management too involving morale and other factors.  It would be a really cool game to play but the requirements are absurd, especially for a strategy game.

only in japan could the words VALKYRIE OF THE BATTLEFIELD refer to THIS

sega should fire this game's team and pass the title on to a competent western developer. i envision something like the helicopter bit in apocalypse now. killing innocent vietnamese and then surfing on a bloodied ocean sounds like a solid game mechanic.

Come on, it's an anime game, it makes most any game of that style look the same. Some people said that White Knight Story looked like an uglier version of Two Worlds too, but in motion it looks absolutely fantastic.

These screens are very small. We need to wait for proper 720p screens and an HD trailer showing the game in motion before passing such judgments.
