Whats on Tap This Weekend?
« on: September 09, 2007, 05:39:01 PM »

Level 40 Mage finally yey.

10 hours into this. Only 3 people fully unlocked, 2 others are close. Master Asia boss battles am cry. Gundam MK II = FTW best in show.

Only 3 hours in, just got it. I like it so far but god DAMN the character designs are shit. The gundams themselves look fine, even if super deformed.

Doofing the fuck around in Neverwinter. I hate hippy druid chick, I want her gone. Maybe I should completely turn to a life of crime, but then dwarf guy might frown and he's my best fighter.

Lifeforce omg omg. This + Gradius Collection = OMG.

Been studying and hanging out so I haven't had the opportunity to play Persona 3 this weekend but yesterday me and a few guys played a couple of games of Gears of War, Soul Calibur 3, and Virtua Fighter 4: EVO.

I played some Warhawk, but between packing and watching football on TV, there hasn't been much time for games.

The Druid chick was pretty annoying too in Baldur's Gate 2.   I guess that being annoying is part of their profession.

I've been playing some Warhawk.  It is definitely better than I gave it credit for at first glance.

Glad you're enjoying it.

I thought it was kinda nasty the way she kept trying to hook up with you in BG2 after serving as a mother figure in BG1.

Druids are a love or hate sort of thing, often coming down to if you subscribe to the homoceltuality branch of eurofaggotry (and I do :( ) . I liked both Elanee and Jahiera, though the latter was a far more defined and interesting character.

Well theres the Mercenaries bonus game which was included in the GC version, and you get the PS2 extras 'Operation Ada' and 'Seperate Ways' (Operation Ada may have been in the GC version too but Im not 100%).  Seperate Ways is cool as it fleshes out Ada's story with Wesker and Umbrella and stuff a bit more. Probably gives some clues about the story of RE5

I didn't play much this weekend.  Just a little of the COD4 beta and a few tries with a friend to beat a level in EDF 2017.

And am I unlucky or does it always take ~15 minutes before the host starts the fucking game?

almost 11 hours, Beat the game with Amuro, Heero, annnnnd Zechs. Almost have it beat with Domon or whatever annnnd Char. Even with Wing Zero at level 10 and Heero at like level 27 I still dont have most of the skills or parts for that character lol. I wish the game had more maps. Im hoping hard mode is really hard cause a maxed out gundam and pilot make easy REAL easy, especially with some of the skills you get.

I have 90+% of the stuff discovered in the galleries so far.

I need challenge. I loved fighting that 3 man squad of pointy headed gundams while I fighted another hero gundam while protecting the big tray. I wasn't a high pilot or gundam level but I managed to out manuever and pull a win out of my butt and still save my almost dead ally.

Once you get overpowered on normal those down to the wire situations pretty much vanish and that fun tension is gone. Im hoping hard brings that back and makes the player focus on skill/part combination to work out wins.

the achievements definitely help, although i've yet to score any.  i think what killed it for me was not being able to understand what my comrades were saying.  i like the cheesy english dub on the 360 version -- the japafag version was a bit too much.

Bioshock (XBox 360)- Beat the game last friday, got the good ending for saving all the little sisters.  This was a thoroughly enjoyable shooter all the way through; it's the atmosphere and the powers you get that really make the game shine.   The story falls apart a little bit towards the end, but it doesn't matter since the game is just plain fun.  There were some things that annoyed me, namely hacking (it's a Pipe Dream style mini game) because at times the game would "cheat" and there would be no way to win, and also towards the end...there's a very short escort mission that was a little annoying because you can lose sight of your companion.  But that was pretty much it; Bioshock was quite an enjoyable ride and I will definitely be playing through it again at least once more on hard and to get the bad ending.  Bioshock is without a doubt the best single-player FPS of the last couple of years, and I'd say the best single-player FPS on consoles EVER.

Phoenix Wright Justice For All (DS)- Started this up again after getting the third game.  I got tired of this title during the third case (circus killing), which just dragged on and on and on AND ON, and stopped playing it earlier this year.  But I finally finished it and am working my way through the last case so I can move onto the superior third game.  I think PW2 is the weakest entry in the series overall.  I already know that PW3 has better stories than this one does.  Thankfully the fourth case is better than the last, but I still want to finish this game and put it behind me already.

Fatal Fury Special (XBox 360)- This game is a trip.  I am owning people left and right, and the best rank I've achieved is 55 (worldwide).  It's great because the game rates you on your SKILL and you go up pretty quickly if you actually know how to play.  I think I can make it to the top 30 if I keep at it.  Overall the online play is good and I have only had a few laggy matches.  FFS is dated, but very playable and it has more modern features (dashing backwards, line sway, crouching advance, super moves, etc.) compared to SF2 Turbo, which also came out in 1993.

That's it for now.  I'm waiting for Musou Orochi on Xbox 360 this week, and will also likely pick up SSX Blur for the Wii, which FINALLY comes out in Japan Thursday as well.  I don't know why it took them so damn long.  Next week is a big week here with the new PSPs, Metal Gear Portable Ops Plus (only 2400 yen!!), Mario Strikers Wii, and more.

Gotta admit, I'm willing to give the game a chance again on 360 because of the cheese dub and achievements, but I doubt I'm going to.  Musou Orochi will keep me busy along with Samurai Warriors 2 XL, plus I'm really waiting for the far superior Sengoku Basara 2 Heroes and Dynasty Warriors 6 anyway.

Agree about this but its reign might be short.  The MC is coming!

Also, stay away from Mario Strikers.  I made the mistake of getting it just for the sake of getting something for the WII.  Unless you have someone playing you very often, you'll be bored in 10 mins.

I'm not really interested in Halo 3's single player.  Never been into Halo single player, actually...always played multiplayer.  I'm buying Halo 3 for the multiplayer, but online co-op means I probably will end up playing through the story mode in some fashion...

I thought it had online play?  Plus I found the GC version cheap a month ago and it seemed decent enough; it's the same developer as Sega Soccer Slam, IIRC, which I enjoyed.

I'm actually playing the 3DO version. The game is really, really fun (to me). it's a weird hybrid of fps and and RTS. Sadly the fps engine isnt all that (the game is showing its age, and the engine feels pre doomish). You lead those super soldiers in various missions (where you have to retrieve artefacts, infos,etC) into endless levels where you fight those alien-like monsters called the gene stealers. You order each members of your squad to move around, guard an area, and so one while you try to achieve the objective. You are wearing those big space suits called terminator suits; those things are really clunky and slow to move around; and you are armed with various weapons like machine guns, shotguns and flame throwers.

The fights get real intense when you are the first to enter a room flooded with those monsters. I don't recommend the game to people who just got recently into fps games (aka post 2000) as the game will feel way too primitive for them. This is the kind of game that would had blown my mind off back in the wolf3d/doom days.

in the story mode you start up as a grunt, and with time, you get access to more weapons, and you eventually get to lead your squad.

I found a video online, the beginning is boring as hell, as in typical youtube wankery fashion, he shows various pics of stuff related to the game; then when he gets to the gameplay, he starts and plays at some guy in a 20 men squad. The action really starts at the 3:30 mark.
