Mew3, you know metalheads don't play Rock Band. That's why there's Guitar Hero, after all.

The Rock Band forums threw a SHITFIT when the A7x drummer died.

I fucking hated that band. Fucking Christian Right-wing bullshit propaganda. People didn't give a shit about the lyrics and had no clue what they were singing. The just play it because it's difficult.

I haven't played RB2 since Christmas Day, and this DLC isn't inspiring me to. I don't really need ANOTHER Megadeth album, sorry but I don't.

I hear you. I normally sing, but I do OK at guitar/bass if I practice at all. Recently I picked up the guitar controller for the first time in a couple months. Just... embarrassing.

Bands and individuals can use the same authoring tools Harmonix uses to put their songs up on the music store.  It's in beta right now but should be out within a few months.

So if you make your own song and put it up on the store, do you get part of the $$ each time it sells?

My biggest complaint is that there are way to many songs that are $2.  The GH1 leftovers (Even Rats and Trippolette) are $2 just because of the nostalgia factor.  If it isn't at least somewhat mainstream, it shouldn't be $2.  The best song out right now (Push Push Lady Lightning) is only $1.

You know what would have been a better system? Everything starts at 99 cents for the first month, then IF it goes to the PS3/Wii, then it raises to $2. That'd give an incentive to buy ASAP.

Ah, I wondered what the update was for today.

So sorry for being a short bus candidate, but this is the one that requires XNA/Creator's Club membership, and the membership in RBN, right? And normal peeps /may/ eventually see the popular stuff trickle out from it?

RBN is out right now for the normals (aka you can buy songs), but I don't know if it is available in Japan.  You should be able to use an American account to buy songs if it isn't available in your region.

I picked up a few songs off the RBN. "If Trucks Drank Beer" is really fun and pretty damn funny. The Nerdcore Goth Girl song was cool but I tried the demo. So far my favorites were Bang Camaro's song and Five Finger Death Punch's. Glad to see a lot of death metal on there.

I blame Microsoft for their constantly melting systems and a HDD too small to support the 9 GB of music (and counting) I've bought from Harmonix.

I'd be on my sixth 360 instead of my third if I played Rock Band on that melty piece of shit

The only reason RBN exists is because the XNA framework allows for quick delivery of user made content.  Blame Sony and Nintendo for having gimped online systems.

My impressions on the songs I've bought:

Battles and Brotherhood - Generic metal song.  Pretty fun song to listen to, kinda boring to play. :-\  Wasted $2 to be honest
Code Monkey- Nerdy song that is incredibly fun on vocals.  It should have been $1, though.
Even Rats - Awesome indie rock song that gives me GH1 nostalgia, but once again it is overpriced at $2
Footloose and Fancy Free - AWESOME jazz song that is really unique.  A great buy at $2
For the Love of God - A guitarists dream.  Steve Vai is awesome.
He Sleeps in a Grove - Symphonic power metal.  I know it is of a niche taste, but I love the song.  I feel like I got my $2 worth
Push Push (Lady Lightning) - Awesome song from GH2.  A bargain at $1 and the best song on RBN right now.
Trippolette - Fun song on guitar and another GH1 nostalgia thing, but $2 is steep for an unknown song that is pretty short

Too bad for me! I was hoping for "Business Time" from FotC.

I picked up the MC Frontalot "Goth Girls" and "Code Monkey" from Jonathan Coulton. Fun stuff, though I should have "previewed" the MC Frontalot track. Vocals are a little too simple (Yes, I'm aware he's a rapper, and rap tends toward the Talky Bits).

Trying to find stuff is hard right now. JoCo's track was listed under HMX...sumfin for Artists, and Jonathan Coulton as Label. I'm going to poke around more in a bit.

I'm with Patel on this.

Every other developer this gen has said, "MS sucks for user-created online.  That's why we can't have user-level sharing".  Yet RBN which is all about user content is ONLY on the X360.
Either MS money-hatted this, or more likely the programming team at Harmonix sucks.  The PS3 versions of RB might sell less, but they still sell a lot and definitely enough to support RBN.

You're talking about two different things, Bebpo.  MS is stringent about unmoderated user content, which is why you can't have level sharing in Trials HD because MS is scared that kids will download a penis level.  RBN and Indie games are checked for content before they are released in the wild.  That is why you will never see Anal Cunt in the RBN store.

Edit:  Also, certain (re: popular) RBN songs will show up on the PS3 and Wii, but there is a 30 day exclusivity for the 360 for all RBN content.

I guess the question is does "popular RBN tracks" mean "anyone with a CD and a label" (i.e. more or less anything you'd care about) or "3 tracks per week" (because the RBN team is incompetent/lazy)
