The new Streetlight Manifesto. It's all right but none of the songs excite me the way the first album did. Lots of rehashed musical ideas. All the shout choruses feel the same.

Shiny Toy Guns is pretty good (electro-house/rock crossover), they also did a trance track for Rise FM in GTAIII believe it or not.

Just got this last night

Listened to it from beginning to end last night (well this morning at 4am) and I'm impressed. Doom is quickly becoming one of my favorite artists. I had read that it's best to get introduced to MF Doom's brand of alternative hip hop through his more accessible albums, such as Mm Food and the Madvillian release Madvilliany. I really liked both of those albums so I decided to give Operation Doomsday, this 1999 debut, a careful listen.

The album was released in 1999 on the cheap, which is an understatement; the mix quality is low compared to 2004's Mm Food, and the vocals sound even messier than usual for Doom. Yet despite the technical problems the album still manages to emit a sinisterly great album; it's like hearing the ascension of the villian, an origin rooted in madness lol. The production is pretty awesome imo; while most rap albums seem to focus on samples from the 60's and 70's, Doom focuses on a mix R&B 80's songs and the trademark cartoon samples. It's an awesome combination and sounds quite unique.

Standout tracks:
-Doomsday (Doom and Sade? Sign me up)
-Rhymes Like Dimes (Doom delivers a quite energetic flow over a jazzy beat)
-Go With the Flow (gives me flashbacks to Midnight Marauders)
-Red and Gold (the beat is simply amazing)
-Tick Tock (a hypnotizing song built around a Beatles sample)

...fuck, get the album - every song is worth hearing.

Listening to the deluxe editions of Pulp's His n' Hers and This is Hardcore. They really fucked these two albums up. The last half of This is Hardcore is mostly trash and would've been waaaay better if they'd swapped "I'm a Man" and "Sylvia" for "The Professional" and "Ladies' Man". It might be heresy but "A Little Soul" never really gelled with me either, it would've made a good B-side and "Tomorrow Never Dies" would've been a good replacement if the lyrics were reworked a bit.

His n' Hers is one my favourite albums of all time, but they could have replaced the two awful songs, "Someone Like the Moon" and "She's a Lady" with pretty much anything that's on the outtakes disc. "Deep Fried in Kelvin", "Seconds", "Your Sister's Clothes", "Street Lites" and "You're Not Blind" are all fantastic.
