I don't understand people that say they vehemently oppose Guliani's "politics". The guy was a fucking MAYOR .. he doesn't have any politics nor record to even oppose. Dumb shits. Anything he says now is clearly positioning in his bid for the nomination. Look at GWB .. 95% of what he "ran on" in the election was thrown out the window once he made office. So, if you want to oppose Rudy because he is an unknown quantity with no real experience in the national body poltic ... fine. But to fall for the demonizing spin that he is some sort of autocratic monster, just makes you seem like a fool/tool for the left.

LOL.  Giuliani's political beliefs and positions are incredibly well-documented.  He wasn't MAYOR of Shit Creek, Iowa.  He was MAYOR of NEW YORK FUCKIN' CITY, a huge metropolis with an ethnically diverse population.  I saw how he dealt with problems there and it gives me a good idea of how he'd deal with problems as president.

GWB's campaign was a pretty decent blueprint for his future policies.  A national education program that tied funding to standardized testing (even using the phrase "no child left behind"), a less internationalist foreign policy centered on the use of military force, a Medicare prescription drug benefit, a cut in the income tax, a repeal of the estate tax, and a Social Security plan featuring partial diversion into individual accounts.

For all their marriage problems, to their credit, the Clintons have stuck with it.

The only reason they're still "together" is because of Hillary's presidential aspirations. Divorcing Bill would have ended her career most likely.

They're a partnership a few steps from becoming a corporation
Not true. Carl Bernstein's (guy who took down nixon) book has A LOT of negative info and stories about hillary in his bio on her. But one thing that was clear was that they are honestly in love to this day despite Bill's cheating ways.

Though my favorite story from it was when she found out about Monica from bill she chuck a lamp at his head.  :lol

Sorry, I don't believe that for a second.

And wtf @ FoC. Ron Paul is insane

There's no way for anyone on the outside to truly know all the facts with respect to their relationship, or any relationship for that matter. When I look at Hillary's history I see a woman who was calculating, precise, and brilliant when need be. I firmly believe her decision to stay married to someone as sleazy as Bill was strictly political.

It's all guesswork but I've been known to guess on the right side of logic before

In regards to her marriage? Look at her political career. She's been planning this for what, 30 years? Before she entered college she had detailed aspirations to be a senator and president. Bill was able to get her further into the door. Divorcing him would have thrown away all her hard earned work. In order to inherit Bill's political machine among other things, she stayed married; why would such a strong willed, independent woman's woman like Hillary stand by and let her husband embarrass her over and over again? Aren't there reports that she knew about many of Bill's former ladies and helped cover it up? It hurt her, but she let it slide because she knew Bill was her ticket to her political aspirations.

I'm not saying she doesn't "love" Bill but I get the feeling that they're more of a partnership than a couple.

Uhhh...that sounds like a lot of unsourced bullshit to me.  Where is the "new" Phoenix Dark who backs up his inane theories with facts?  It's just as likely that she forgave Bill Clinton his indiscretions because she loves him, instead of this ridiculously insane idea that she's been master planning her presidency for 30 years and hitched her wagons to a poor boy from Arkansas instead of, y'know, dating and marrying someone from a blueblood family with political aspirations and deep pockets.

I just find it funny that PD honestly seems to think Hillary Clinton has had some master plan for the last thirty or forty years to take over America, and that part of that plan was dating some schmuck from Arkansas in college. :lol

Hillary while in college talked about how she wanted to either be a Senator or a Supreme Court Justice. That is where PD got it from I believe.

She also worked at the Republican National Convention and worked for a Republican congressman when she was getting her degree.

I think it's a big stretch to go from "she wanted to be a senator" to "she hitched her wagon to Bill Clinton's star so she could accomplish her goals."  It's pretty obvious Clinton has been cheating on Hillary since long before he became governor, back when he was just an attorney.  She could have divorced him back then, no fuss, no muss.  She stuck with him, and all reports from friends and acquaintances of the Clintons lead me to believe that they care a lot about each other, despite his chronic infidelity.

And yeah, Rudy scares me.  Of all the candidates in the running, I think he and Thompson would be the worst...Romney and McCain are the best on the Republican side.  Clinton and Edwards are the best on the Democrat side.

Believe what you will about Hillary. As for me I'll continue to tote the warning horn :violin

WHY do so many people like Ron Paul? I understand he's one of the few true conservatives in the race, but based on his crazy ideas how is that a good thing. I remember him answering questions from young voters on CNN. The question was along the lines "as president how would you help make college more accessible to those who can't afford it." His answer? Well that's not the federal government's problem, in fact the education board should be dissolved.

Technically he may be right but if you want to be president...yeah

Quick, show me a large city in America that isn't "ethnically diverse". How exactly did you "see" what Guliani did in New York? Did you live there during his administration?

No matter what the size of a city, no mayor job is similar to the same roles/duties of a President. Period. The only equivalence would be the magnitiude of public scrutiny.

I actually traveled there four years in a row when he was mayor, so yes, I did "see" what Giuliani did in New York.  And I find it laughable that you're saying mayor of NYC is comparable to mayor of any other large city in America.  There really is no point of comparison...I am assuming you've been to New York, haven't you?

I don't understand why American politics is the way it is. Why only two parties?? Whoever wins most of the votes gets to call the shots NO MATTER WHAT and the opposing party has no say in ANYTHING. That's RIDICULOUS. RI DICK YOU LUSS.

AMERICA LOL
Separate branches with separate elections gives America the choice to have two parties have control and fight amongst each other.

That's why opposition controlled Congress does wonders. Bill Clinton did most of his best work when Newt Gingrich was in control of congress.

It works well when you have a President who realizes he has to make deals (like Clinton did, the balancing of the budget being outcome of this) with Congress to get things done. Which Bush refuses to do. He just vetoes anything he doesn't like and doesn't go down to congress to make deals.

Lyndon Johnson was AMAZING at going down to congress and trying to work out stuff.

You know how I feel about LBJ. So much to love, but alas how can he be forgiven for the Tonkin shit. But on the homefront, here you had a southern democrat who was able to get many in his party to support the civil rights bill. He knew how to get what he wanted in Congress, in part because of his experience as a democrat whip.

Teddy is my favorite president, but LBJ is so bittersweet for me.  :'(

That doesn't make it right. It shouldn't be too much to ask for someone to know who our last 7 president's are.

Also Teddy was great. He was more enviromentally obsessed than Al Gore. And him running as a third party candidate after growing to hate the Republicans which led to Woodrow Wilson (a fav of mine) being elected was AWESOME.

Teddy was larger than life. That's such a cliche today, but there are few Americans who truly deserve that title. In some ways he was like a modern George Washington: a brave, fearless military hero who ascended to the presidency but never lost his sense of the people. He was hard on big business but still recognized its importance to the economy. He wasn't afraid to champion environmentalism. He invited Booker T. Washington , the black leader* of his time, to dinner at the Whitehouse. And then there are the crazier stories that have nothing to do with politics, like his Bigfoot experience.

*Du Bois definitely had the intellectual edge on every subject, but Washington was seen as the "leader" of the black community by most. As a huge critic of Washington myself I'm always hesitant to call him a leader, but it's more of an issue of history than my personal feelings

My favorites are the two Roosevelts. A top 5 would be:

I won't include Washington or Lincoln, waaay too easy and cliche.
1. Franklin D. Roosevelt
2. Theodore Roosevelt
3. Woodrow Wilson
4. Thomas Jefferson
5. Harry Truman

LBJ is close but Vietnam...eeeegh.

Best presidents:

1. Warren G. Harding (he inspired the greatest hip-hop superstar of our times).
2. Ulysses S. Grant (he inspired the greatest James Joyce novel of our times).
3. Bob Saget (not a real president, but he should be).
4. Benjamin Franklin (ditto).
5. Herbert Hoover (he invented the vacuum cleaner).

Honestly, I don't think Franklin would have made a good president. He seemed WAAAY to cocky to handle that much power.

Don't forget about the baby skulls under his house  :shh

I'll have to make a top 5 later. Teddy and Truman are my top two though

And Ichi I love how your list features three of the worse US presidents; I bet no one else noticed this but me. Do I get a cookie  :heartbeat :cookie
