Except for a couple frustrating moments, I didn't think episode 1 was that bad.  It's definitely a step down and a little anticlimactic after the end of HL2 but it starts with a bang

- who the hell didn't get a smile on their face when DOG threw Gordon and Alex over the chasm in an old van?  No one, that's who.

 And the end is pretty crazy as well.  I just think that maybe a little creative editing could've been used to tell this part of the story better.  We need to see the

and we need to get these characters out of City 17, I just don't think spending a couple hours in a pitch black parking garage is the best way to do it.

But whatever.  Any digressions episode 1 makes are more than made up for in episode 2.
