Isn't that because Plasma tvs resolution are usually low compared to LCDs?

like 852x480 and 1024x768?

or is it because of the Plasma technology?

I find whiteman's HD elitism unsexy.  I'm losing my boner here  :-\

1080P or GTFO!

But....but graphics don't matter, gameplay does!

Zack and Wiki and Ratchet and Clank prove this wrong.  Zack and Wiki is a fun, inventive, and new game featuring all new gameplay but terrible visuals (all Wii's fault, Capcom did their job fine).  However, I find all my time going to Ratchet and Clank, a mediocre (well, mediocre for me since I have played all of these R&C games) game with eye jizzing graphics.  So, Wii supporters are all wrong, as usual.  Great graphics do make up for shaky gameplay, and good gameplay does not make up for abysmal visuals.

Got to agree with you completely.  I could keep playing R&C for hours even though nothing about the gameplay is particularly interesting.  I just can't tear myself away from the pretty visuals. The lack of excitement is partly due to the ridiculously low difficulty.  Synbios can probably beat it with 1 foot on the controller.

I think it has to do with several factors, one of which is the lower standard resolution of plasmas.  The pioneer plasma I have supposedly has one of the best scalers on the market, which makes all the difference in displaying standard def content.

i didn't particularly enjoy playing my ps2 on my hdtv, which is why i keep an sdtv handy! wii image quality is barely an increase over that of the ps2, thanks to the cheap output filter, so wii display on a hd screen is YIKES

Yep. I'd like to have 2 T.V.s handy when I get my own place, for both last gen. and next gen games.

Edit: Btw, shouldn't this be in gaming?

Honestly I was waiting for 1080p plasmas to get relatively affordable, but then the sweet Sony Wega 720p deal fell into my lap and I couldn't say no.  I'm good for a TV for a whle now.

I wanted to buy a new TV (1080p) from  :bow Samsung  :bow but i decided not to after taking a look at their site.

technology is moving fast, first we were stuck with 5000:1 contrast, then 10000:1 and now 25000:1.

really scary, if i can get a decent deal i will jump in, otherwise, no new tv for me.

manufacturers' specs for contrast ratio are more or less fictional. the actual static contrast of samsung's newer lcds is somewhere short of 2000:1 -- which is excellent for an lcd. tvs do get better, but they don't get better that dramatically or that quickly.

Well, i only have 1 HDMI port and nowadays, LCDs come with 3 HDMI ports.

in my eyes, that's a whole lot better (i fucking hate wires and selectors), but still, not enough money at the moment.

Hey, it's not like I'm endorsing Lair.  R&C's gameplay is real solid.  It might be more of the same, but what was there before is actually pretty good.  I was probably exagerrating a little about how boring it plays.

Also, at least I don't puke like a little bitch just because a game is running a 30fps with not enough anti-aliasing.

Like Drohne said, LCD contrast ratios are mostly bogus because they quote what is achievable with their contrast enhancers.   Contrast enhancers make the picture look great on the surface but most AV experts turn them off because deeper blacks are gained at the expense of shadow detail.  Plasmas still have much better contrast ratios than LCDs.  Plasmas are also the best if you want a big HDTV that will still look ok with last-gen consoles.  LCDs are terrible with non-native resolutions which is why 720p look worse on a 1080p LCD than on a 720p LCD.  If you don't care about size, then CRT HDTVs are the best option for last-gen consoles.

I will probably wait for SED tvs (Toshiba/Canon new tvs) and see if they are better than current Plasma/LCDs.

and CRTs are huge, not an option.

if SED sucks then i will get a Pioneer Plasma  :bow

I haven't heard good news about SEDs lately.  Supposedly, most manufacturers aren't interested in the technology anymore.  Have you checked out the Panasonic plasmas?  They offer almost the same picture as Pioneers at much lower prices.  The only thing that I don't like about Plasmas is the amount of glare.  Other than that, Plasmas are superior to LCDs in every way.

I'm not too famliar with DLPs.  They look pretty good for the price but Plasmas still have the better picture, imo.

I hear good stuff about Panasonic Plasmas, but everyone say Pioneer is better.

i am not good at tech things, so by next year, if i get a nice deal, i will go with any of these two.

Pioneers are not worth the extra money, imo.  The GAF Pioneer fanboys exagerrate how much better the Pioneers look.  Go check out Cnet reviews.  They usually recommend Pannys because of the price differences.  There've also been some years when Pannys have had better picture overall, regardless of price.

Cool.

price is an important factor to me, and if the quality is even better than that's fucking worth it.

thank you Smooth, and you too drohne.
