Does anyone know if uni's prefer that people take the optional writing portion of the ACT test along with everything else, or is that just a way for the ACT committee to make money?

From what I gather people in communications are for those linguistically inclined and accounting is for those mathematically inclined.

Accounting isn't about much math. It's just basic stuff honestly, you just have to know how to apply it

Maths- more so than communications but less so than Civil Engineering. Also communications is more of a people person job anyway.

Anyway I stand by what I said- accounting is safe degree where you can relish in mediocrity with it for the rest of your life. Of course a few get further accreditation and move on.

No.  By doing Philo I need to get into the best school I can in order to have any type of job relating to my degree by the end of it.  I'm planning to get a Ph.D in the end so the best possible school is important.   I'm looking of this list, which is for philo graduate schools, so far.  http://www.philosophicalgourmet.com/overall.asp

OK, here's a hint for ya... Grad schools don't usually give a fuck where you went for your undergrad unless it's like a top 5, maybe 10 university (Ivy League and stuff).

Work hard in undergrad, get a good GPA (nothing less than 3.75) and score well on the GRE and you just might make it into a decent grad program.

Unless you're talking about Med, Dental, or LAW, it's actually easier to get into a prestigious University as a grad student.  Actually, my friend at Havard Law told me it's statistically easier to get into Harvard's law school than its undergrad program.

statistically sure. I suppose the ratio of applications to acceptances for Harvard Law is higher than it is for their undergrad. But, the requirements are a total bitch.

Thats why I'm going to try applying to schools around the top.  Hopefully I can make one.

the point I was making was that you don't need to go to some pimp-ass university for undergrad (just a top 100) as long as you get good grades. Even if you get into a prestigious university you still need to get equally good grades.

my english teacher told me of this one female freshman she had that was straight out of high school who went to the counseling office to use the special computer to search for graduate schools.  rather than search based on her major or the the school's rank or something, she searched for the schools with the highest male to female ratios and she got a list of 10 engineering schools.  she applied to all of them as a business administration major (only one of them had a business administration program).  guess how many she got accepted to (yes they were good schools)?

oh, and she started off her application letter with "I can never have enough knowledge and whipped cream"

It's actually a lot better to apply around this time. Fall - January is a really good time to apply. The best iirc. Remember that some schools have due dates, and many of them are in March, or April.

I took the SATs, but I can guess that the ACT is pretty much the same in terms of what you need to do.  Its all about doing problem after problem.  Just keep doing practice tests and problems.

My plan for this year is to cut way the fuck down on fried shit and pasta, switch from pop to water, and start working out.

Good ideas, especially the pop one.  I never drink pop anymore (except for alcohol mixing purposes, naturally).

Just try to do the little things when it comes to your diet, less snacking, that sort of thing.  Personally, I rarely eat out, as well.

For me, the most important part of getting in shape and getting healthy is making sure that you enjoy your exercise.  If you enjoy lifting weights and running, great, but for a lot of people, they'd get bored of that fast.  That's why martial arts is a great fit for me, because it's fun and interesting in addition to being great exercise.

So my best advice would be to get exercise that you will be able to maintain, by doing an activity or sport that you will be able to stick with.  And don't be discouraged if you don't see results in  just a couple weeks.  It takes time.

PD, do you understand how community colleges work?  they accept anybody.  you don't need to apply 6 months before you enroll.  just register a month before, take placement tests, and then choose your classes.  and then you're a college student.

You apply for governmental loans through your provincial government. The application process start at the end of April in Ontario. The max you can get in Ontario is about $10k a year. If that is not enough you have to try the banks. For the most part they don't seem to do loans but instead give you a credit line. Undergrad students don't get much and you need a co-signer. Law students on the other hand get a pretty nice credit line and we don't need a co-signer. (Yeah that means I'm blowing my money and buying me a Russian cheeseburger wife)

There's always risks when it comes to investing. People do lose money in the market. Especially if they foolishly decide that gold is a bad investment. Remember you do have to pay interests on those loans. And the interest on those bank loans is pretty ugly. I don't think you should take out a loan unless you'll actually use that money towards school or a nice blue eyed Russian cheeseburger.

Depends on the bank. All Canadian banks do accept Maple syrup, hockey cards, Canadian tire money, Molson empties, and Bryan Adams' albums.
