I love Nolan flicks and think he is a great director but the internet obsession is insane. There are people in that gaf topic who seem to honestly believe that Bale is deserving of an oscar for playing Batman.

Yeah it gets pretty distinguished mentally-challenged.  I love him as much as the next American Pyscho lover, but he's not really deserving of any award recognition.   At least not for Batman anyway.  :lol

Bale's good, but I'm not sure if he's great.  He's shown that he's really skilled at picking collaborators, and taking roles that suit his strengths, but amongst his notable roles, I don't see a whole lot of range, so far.

Nolan's a pretty good director.  I actually think that taking Batman movies is kind of slumming it for him, but if he has success with more than one of these, he could probably get whatever he wants bankrolled, so overall I suppose it's a smart strategy.

I am pretty sure TVC called it one of his favorites last year, may be confusing him with someone else though.

I think I remember him saying that he liked Jackman better than Bale, but again maybe that was drinky, I forget.

I liked the Prestige, but I think I knocked it down to a 6 out of 10 after they fucked everything up with the dumb exposition at the end where they explained everything to you just in case you were distinguished mentally-challenged and missed the plot.  And Jackman > Bale!

It was half jokey!  I'd say the movie was an 8.  That sort of story is an old one, and although it was pulled off very well and with plenty of style, it wasn't transcendant.

The exposition at the end smacks of studio interference.

yeah, the exposition at the end was really awkwardly edited in -- which is totally un-nolan. distinguished mentally-challenged gaf fanboys aside, nolan is a master of the editing craft, and that expository bit was very much NOT him.

i am sure there will be a director's cut to make me double dip :'(

Yeah, I know.  It was just especially bad exposition.  It wasn't just exposition for the ending, or the third act. . .it was the WHOLE FUCKING STORY.  Let's sum up the entire movie in 5 minutes for the people in the audience related to Synbios!

I wonder what he plans to do after the Dark Knight.  He should branch out a bit more.

Oh come on!  All three of those movies are renegades in one way or another.  2001, by Kubrick, Blade Runner, which invented the director's cut, and On Her Majesty's Secret Service, the Lazenby Bond film!

I admit it takes guts for a director to call a bond film one of his favorite movies ever, lazenby at that.  :lol

okay, let me explain why I have my opinions.  I love batman, I read the comics and he was my favorite superhero.  I kept on watching the burton batmans over and over as a kid (at least once a week).  The reason I got into the comics was because you never got any random, quite horribly written explanations for his superpowers, which is why I hated the comics that included a superman cameo.  Now imagine being a fan of the comics at that age and then seeing the burton films, they perfectly took the batman story and put it onto film.  Now I can see why you might love that nolan went hardkore and put some grit but for any real batman fan, the way the burton ones did it defined what a batman film looks like but then nolan decided to just spit in the face of the original.

I was worried because in the interviews with nolan, he didn't show that he was a longtime fan willing to due justice and give the REAL batman fans what they wanted.  he gave internet movie nerds some weird-ass shit to jack off on but I didn't like it.

I almost wrote something similar, but I ended up deleting it for a few reasons.

I was going to say that from what Nolan did with Batman Begins, I figured that he wasn't a Batman fan outside of the movies and the comics that were batted around as inspiration for BB.  I couldn't really back it up without having seen BB recently, so I just canned the post.  But yes, to me it at least felt like his heart was (slightly) on the wrong side of the Comic Book Fan and Movie cigarillo see saw.
