What jobs should I concentrate on? So far I'm doing this:

Shu: Magic Sword/Monk
Kluke - Black Magic/Assassin
Jiro - White Magic/Guardian Magic

Also, if I have let's say, Magic Sword job as default but I've got monk abilities set up as well. Will I still learn monk abilities along side my Magic Sword skills? Or will I be learning one job at a time?

First, try to master Generalist for all characters till you get skill +2 or more (currently i have skill + 5 i think).

very useful.

also Assassin has a skill which cut item prices in shops to half (note: a character later in the game will have this job + this skill, so you can skip it if you want and concentrate on other jobs).

So can I concentrate on multiple jobs at once or just one at a time?

It's your choice.

for example, with Shu, i try to make him the best at Magic Sword, but every now or then, i switch to black or white magic and level them up.

having all characters with white magic is better than relying on one character to do the healing.

Yeah, I started that game on my SDTV and got my HDTV while playing through.  I remember it looking impressive on the SDTV, even.

It's an awesome game, Himu.  Let us know what you think.  If I held a position lofty enough to warrant making lists, it would be near the top for this year.  It just gets better and better.  Well, the ending and last dungeon suck, but that's gaming for you.

I like it a lot, TVC. It's got this Dragon Quest vibe that I'm seriously eating up. I don't know if it's Toriyama's character designs or what. I dunno about everyone else but I've always had a soft spot for Akira Toriyama character designs, monster designs;etc. so that's probably apart of the appeal for me.

The characters are cool. They aren't emo or anything, and that's so great. The game is actually humorous in some spots, which is always nice when it comes to rpgs.

The music is damn good. :) Best Uematsu in a while :bow

The battle system and job system are really good so far. I like how the classes are not only varied in terms of skill set, but play style. For example, monks use attacks via charging, magic is cast via charging... it can make battles interesting because charging can make battles go by much easier. I hope enemies can charge attacks too. Actually, I hope there's more play styles than just charging.

Job system is addicting although I'm not sure I completely understand it yet. I'm not sure if it's like FFV where you can only equip one job at a time, but still retain your old job's abilities, or if you can equip multiple jobs at once. I changed Jiro's job to Barrier magic but left his white magic class on the abilities list, and somehow I think he's learning white magic alongside barrier.

So basically, I have a high quality next gen rpg with amazing production values not by Square Enix. Hopefully Mistwalker sticks around, because right now I'm so impressed with BD, I'm becoming even more averse regarding Square.

Only problem I have now are the monster designs (they aren't nearly as charming DQ's imo) and the random frame rate raping in battle.

I hope dungeons get deeper and have more and better puzzles.

Himu, Job system here is like this:

you equip a character with say, White Magic, then you learn heal by getting skill points.

if you don't want this job, you can switch it with Black Magic instead or anything else.

now, to get skills/abilities/spells you learned from the White Magic job, you simply go to the Shadows menu, and put white magic in one of the skill slots.

so you have both White Magic skills and your current job, the Black Magic job, but remember, to learn new abilities or spells, you need to pick a job and gain skill points with it equipped.

in other words, it's like FF5 from what you described (i never played it myself though).

The Good

    * It's fun to watch your dragons do battle
    * Occasional minigames mix things up
    * Class system lets you customize your characters in endless ways.

The Bad

    *

    * Unfortunately, class system turns party members into a generic mishmash of spells and skills
    * You won't care about the long, boring story or cookie-cutter characters
    * Visuals are bland and rely too much on blurry depth-of-field tricks.

Get out of this thread.

What kind of con is this?

"Unfortunately, class system turns party members into a generic mishmash of spells and skills"

That makes no goddamn sense. Have these people ever played an rpg that has a class system? That's all classes ARE, are a bunch of exclusive skill sets. You can probably even avoid the problem they mention, whatever the hell it is.

"You won't care about the long, boring story or cookie-cutter characters"

The "cookie-cutter" characters are just as cookie-cutter as anything in Final Fantasy. The characters actually have interesting personalities and they mesh well. It's a hell of a lot better than Final Fantasy XII's. YOU KILLED MY BROTHER. *five minutes later* LET'S BE FRIENDS.

"Visuals are bland and rely too much on blurry depth-of-field tricks."

How are they bland? The game is BEAUTIFUL.

So basically, the review makes it look like it came from someone who isn't a fan of rpgs aside from Final Fantasy and hates minimalist plots (which are always superior), and doesn't know what they're talking about. GREAT!

Claiming BD's visuals are "bland" is definitely one of the most laughable comments I've ever heard... only area I didn't care for was the poison marsh forest towards the beginning of the game, but as you get further through the game, the areas get increasingly more amazing.

They are completely right though, since all the classes stop gaining skills at level 30 or so almost all of your characters have the same classes maxed out halfway through the game. You basically have 5 characters with the exact same overpowered skills - since the game is so ridiculiously easy it gets boring as fuck.

I'm not even making my characters the same classes. The only characters that share skills are Kluke and Jiro, and those are white magic spells.

And no, Synbios I don't like it nearly as much as DQ. The dungeons are similar to VIII's in that they don't have jack shit for puzzles, but at least DQVIII's dungeons are short as fucking hell. BD's can be quite overly long, and without any puzzles whatsoever.

The game feels a tad padded or maybe this is just the beginning. Was it really necessary to go through all that trouble to get that medicine for Moru's town? Just have one dungeon and be done with it, and that dungeon where you do get the medicine shouldn't have been that long.

Other nitpicks: the map sucks. After clocking 85 + hours of Persona 3, this is unbearable. Why can't I see which paths I have already taken? The dungeons have a similar look all throughout so sometimes I question if I've been in a certain area before.

Game is too damn easy.

Still, I'm enjoying the fuck out of the game.

Why level a class if you won't get any new moves? Seems pointless, if you're leveling a new class it atleast feels like you're accomplishing something.

I actually played like that more than halway through the game (go ahead and check the thread), it was more mundane than counting the pimples on britney spear's ass. If a game has abusable gameplay mechanics i am going to abuse them - although I think that is the way it was intened to be played. Give it time, you're only 6 hours in 2 of which were cutscenes, you don't have any idea how the battles system works much less the job system. At the stage you're at the game actually requires some sembalence of skill and your characters are actually a bit more speciaized, but by the time you get to the robo viliage the game devolves into a non- stop attack spam session.

Man, why did this game bomb? It's evident Microsoft didn't give a shit about it doing well here at all, just Japan. From their lack of advertising, to the absolutely horrible demo which places you in the most random places in the game ever (why not just have a demo of the whole first hour of the game? it would have gotten lots of people to buy it instead of losing faith in the game), the lack of moneyhats to idiot reviewers who don't know what a good game is anymore, to the fact they stacked all three discs ON TOP of each other in the goddamn case. It's evident they didn't give a shit about the game, and yet it's on par with many old Square games.

What a shame. Here was a chance for them to prove to the Japafag audience who scornfully always says "xbox is only for shooters" without researching or looking at the lineup at all, that they are wrong and stupid.

I dunno why people complain about the difficulty. Where I am now, there are some normal enemies that can rape you depending on your job class, and since I'm grinding Generalist they can fuck me up bad. The tigers in particular are pretty tough foes if they want to be.

It's not hard, like SMT hard, but it's not super EASY either. I'd say it's above average in difficulty. The boss gauntlet fucking owned.
