Fine, get either Ichi the Killer or Audition. Those are the only two Miike's your store is likely to have. They're both good, WIllco just fell into the hype when Audition was getting a lot of it. You have the luxury of coming in after the hype, so no unrealistic expectations for you. You'd like it.

Watch ED2 first -- in this day and age, I doubt there are many people that can truly appreciate ED without watching (and getting) its sequel first. It's dated, fakey, and serious, but those traits become endearing when viewed from the light of the sequel.

a) Evil Dead II does not need the original whatsoever. It pretty much pretends the original does not exist (long story). There is almost zero continuitiy.

b) Ash doesn't lose his hand in the original.

Wasn't Raimi's fault. He wanted to do a brief montage recapping The Evil Dead using footage from the original, but was unable to due to legal rights bullcrap. So he kind of re-shot the original in a very condensed form, and consolidated the original players to just two characters.

But yeah, it's a lot better than the original. I always said play 'em backwards.

Ah, I had never heard that before. Makes sense. Didn't the montake at the beginning of AoD use reshot footage of ED2, also?

I guess Raimi figured that rather than shooting a montage, it would just be better to redo the elements that appear in the first one, and once he decided to do that, he probably pretty much rewrote the entire movie. Interesting.

Yeah, he was able to incorporate footage from Evil Dead II into Army of Darkness, although there is a continuity error because the end of Evil Dead II doesn't jive with the beginning of Army of Darkness (but it's overlooked).

Yeah, that's pretty much what went down. There's a lack of real continuity to the series that Raimi finds annoying, and is the big reason why he is in favor of a remake.

I really don't remember nudity. I know there is sex. It was very violent and some parts are grotesque. I chalk this up to another movie White Man likes simply because it's morbid. If you put enough fucked up shit in a movie, he'll buy it.

I liked the fact that it was a long movie that needed that much time to finish. It was more about the romance of the prison and having to watch killers and kill them eventually. Or he could get Deliverance, that was a very good and revolutionary movie if he's going to come off watching Evil Dead.

The Green Mile is so fucking pussified down from the book. In the book, even though Delacroix is a bit sympathetic, you know what he did, and why he deserves to die. The movie tried so hard to make all these death row inmates seem fucking noble (except for Wild Bill, who should've been wearing a big sign reading HEY Y'ALL I'M THE VILLAIN) that it made me sick to my stomach. Same with Shawshank Redemption and toning down Red's crimes (in the book, he killed his wife for no real reason at all, and admits it), all these hardened criminal lifers are really just big ole good-hearted sweeties deep down inside. You know, so the viewer isn't confused by any troublesome conflicting emotions or anything. Fuck Frank Darabont.

-Evil Dead 2
-Sin City
-The Devil and Daniel Johnston
-Howl's Moving Castle

I almost got Die Hard, but it was only on VHS meh. I've never seen Sin City, but I read a lot of the graphic novel. I'll watch Evil Dead 2 first though.

I watched some of Evil Dead 2, but it was so stupid I fell asleep. I'm going to give it another chance today; I started watching it at 1 in the morning, so maybe that's why I fell asleep. Alright I just got done watching the entire movie. I must have been REAL sleepy last night lol. The movie was not bad.

I really liked how it came on, as I said earlier. The intro was cool, as was the first few scenes in the house; the tape recorder part really got my attention and reminded me of Indiana Jones for some reason.

Once his girlfriend gets kidnapped the movie goes crazy. I liked much of the camera work, but some of it seemed forced. It was almost like those college project videos you see where the student's main goal seems to be to show how awesome his camera work is, thus leading to lots of un-needed flash. There's a part in the movie where Ash is thrown into the sky and starts spinning around and around before slowly falling into a mudpuddle; stuff like that was just annoying. On the positive side, I really liked the first person camera work when some monster/evil spirit was gliding around; that was actually scary.

From a technical standpoint there was a lot of stuff going on. It was obvious that some scenes were shot in reverse (for instance the scenes that used smoke machines), and as I mentioned earlier the camera work was very active. Impressive.

The movie picked up the pace once everyone was in the house. Ash's scenes before then were sort of hit and miss. I liked the part where he cut off his own hand and when he cut his dead girlfriend's head off lol; sadly, he barely uttered any cool lines. Much of the slapstick humor was hit and miss as well. I love seeing people get kicked in the face, and the part where Ash gets kicked into the celler by that hillbilly is hilarious; only time I LOL'd during the movie. Also the part where his girlfrien's head was connected to his hand was funny. But many slapstick scenes seemed to go on for far too long; many of the chase scenes featuring undead Ash were just stupid, and the parts where that other dude turned undead was stupid as well.

Overall I thought it was a good movie. Not amazing, not classic, not mindblowing. Maybe a 7 or 8 out of 10. But the ending really was awesome...so I'll go with 8/10.

When I saw parts of Army of Darkness, I remember seeing Ash fall out the sky and into the desert area; so should I watch Army of Darkness next?
