What was all the hoopla about?   ???

Is every Sony game going to finish with QTEs from now on?  QTE boss fights are so lame.

Never thought I'll say this but Spike actually got it right.  No way does Uncharted deserve a GOTY nomination.  It shouldn't even be in the discussion.  Reality>GAF once again.

Worth getting once it's cheap, or just that forgettable?

I traded it in after like a week. The gameplay sucks and the story is generic. There's some neat visuals, but there are some crappy visuals that make it an uneven experience in that arena. The gameplay is too much clumsy shooting and QTEs and not enough of...well something else.

Sure, but since you have all the systems, there's better stuff to play.  Unless you're really dying to play something on the PS3, I'll wait until it drops to $20 or so.  Based on what Dcharlie said, you can probably find it that cheap in Japan soon.

Maf's assessment is pretty spot on.  I'll add that the platforming elements are pretty entertaining despite being easy for the most part.  It's fun to watch Drake pull off some incredible acrobatics although I wished that there was more player involvement during those feats.  Most of the challenge in the platforming segments comes from discovering where to jump instead of timing your jumps like Mario.

Yeah, I expect it to pretty much bomb here.  It's already 5000 yen new, which is cheap for a PS3 title.

i played my gamefly copy about halfway this weekend (chapter 7 or 8 ).  and well, it's in the mail now.  it didn't grab me after about 4-5 hours of play.

my biggest gripe is the gunplay.  it's frustrating and boring.  they could've added just a LITTLE aim assist, or let me use a damn mouse if they wanted to go with the free look, loose aiming.  ND knows they're developing for a console right?  the analogs just aren't precise and fast enough to get efficient kills especially when most of the game you're dealing with swarms of baddies (baddies that move FAST mind you).  dcharlie was spot on, this game really is about sniping and being as FAR back as possible to avoid sticky situations.  the demo pretty much gives you the whole gunplay experience from the get-go.    LOL @ the folks who say that it takes "skill" to master the shooting.

i didn't hate the story as much as others did.  it actually got pretty interesting and the voice acting is well done.  it wasn't on mass effect levels of quality but it fit well considering they were going for a B-movie feel.  graphics are great, but there wasn't enough environment variety and i'm disappointed they didn't v-sync lock this bitch -- screen tearing looked nasty in some areas.  the cutscenes are rendered using the game's engine, but the devs did a good job of making it look like everything was realtime.  you'll notice the difference in quality if you pay attention closely, especially when you discover the submarine for the first time.  nonetheless, the game is very good on a technical level.

i give this game:

The demo really soured me on this game.  I was looking forward to it as well.  I guess that's $60 that I'll keep in my pocket.  What's the next must buy PS3 title? DMC4?

if you played the demo, you've pretty much gotten the whole experience minus some of the better platforming and chase sequences.  oh and i hear there's some QTE thrown into the mix.  it wasn't enough to keep me playing though.

I've tried to give it two fair shakes.  I am going to try again once the holidays pass.

You know, I like the bad jokes.  I like the Indiana Jone's ripoff story.  I like the visuals, and even the environments.  I like the somewhat limited ammunition (in concept).  But there are prominent things that I dislike, and they might be gamekillers.

1. The gunfights are generally too long.  Nothing long with having a few slogs, but it seems like every firefight in the first several hours of the game goes on for, oh, at least 25% longer than it needs to.  The fights are nice and long, but they don't end when they should.  They go on, and on, and. . .

2. If you fuck up, you have to start, for the most part, all over again.  There are checkpoints in the gun fights, but they are spread out in a fashion most unentertaining.  There is not, for example, a checpoint after every room clear.  This means you find yourself replaying the beginning easy parts of gunfights over and over and LONG AND FUCKING LONG and. . .

3.  Aiming sensitivity sucks.  I haven't been able to find a sweet spot.  It's either too sensitive or not sensitive enough.  This is a pretty subjective complaint, but I have heard people echo it.

And that's about it, really.  I mean, I'll throw out that there's not enough pitfall, too much gameplay in general, but that's a problem with my expectations, not the game itself.

Had to crank it up to max to get it to even be serviceable for me.
