As an audiophile, I generally hate Bose products.  However, I have to say that their noise canceling headphones are quite good.

Grados are great too but they aren't readily available at general electronics stores.  Also, their aesthetics/comfort are not up to the level of the bigger brands.  If sound quality is what you care about the most, then you should definitely check them out.

You really need to narrow this down to the type you want.  I think over-the-ear open headphones are the best for comfort and being able to listen to the longest however since they're open they can be incredibly annoying to other people in the room.  I have Sennheiser HD595s and HD280s.

edit: Grados are on-ear and somehow manage to give me a headache in 5 minutes.  Shure and Etymotic are the big in-ear brands.

Headroom is a damn good site to browse if you're looking at headphones - http://www.headphone.com/

Grados have the best audio quality but they're definitely not for people that care most about comfort.

Grados take a long time to break-in, but eventually they reach a point where the fit is nice and tolerable.  First few months are pretty bad, though.  They're also open (not sealed cans) and leak a lot of audio and are definitely not suitable for an enviornment where silence is appreciated.  Not that you would want to wear them out anywhere anyway -- the design is hideous.

The SR-60s I tried out on multiple occasions were broken in, they were just uncomfortable to wear and combined with glasses caused the headache.  They obviously don't compare to the 595s I have now (and shouldn't since the 595s retail for close to $300).

Ear-canal headphones like the Shures are good if you always wear them at your desk or in an environment where you need 0 environmental awareness and the cord won't rub against anything, don't have to take them in and out a lot, and can get used to the feeling.  I prefer closed full-size headphones like AKG 271s.

Guys I don't know about headphones, but these earphones from Sony are the best quality I have ever heard in my life from a portable music player:

The model is MDR E808. These are stock earphones from my minidiscplayer I bought a few years ago, but the left side is broke now. I cant find a replacement around my area without having to contact Sony itself and pay a couple of million dollars, but I've found a site in the US which still sells them. And I don't have the means to import it I think so I'm fucked  :-\

I swear these things were like a $5000 home theater in your ears.

For the iPod I have these: Shure SE530. I don't remember spending $500 on them though, could've sworn I paid $350.

For the home stereo I gravitate between the Sennheiser HD600 (which, holy shit, seem to be 45% off at Amazon right now!)
http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD600-Over-Ear-Professional-Headphones/dp/B00004SY4H/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1198151258&sr=1-1

And the AKG K701
http://www.amazon.com/AKG-Flat-Wire-Studio-Headphones/dp/B000FOU51A/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1198151323&sr=1-3

Senns sound a little better, AKGs are far more comfortable.

Picked up a pair of the Koss Pro 4AAT last week because they're damn cheap (<$70), I prefer closed earphones and have a good reputation. Haven't listened yet, though.
