BOURNE ULTIMATUM OMG
« on: December 24, 2007, 05:08:00 PM »

MOTY (although Zodiac is great too) :bow

Watched it last night. Holy crap it was awesome. The shaky cam is...shaky, but I didn't bother me during action scenes. Definitely wasn't a problem once the movie progressed. I'd say this is the best Bourne in the trilogy :bow

The action scenes were amazing, especially the motorcycle chase scene and the fight between Bourne and Desh in a small room. I lol'd when Nikki got the shit beat out of her  :lol

This is also the most political of the Bourne films, which is a welcome addition. Sometimes it felt like 24 in terms of the in-fighting that went on among the CIA figures.

I kinda wish I didn't buy the DVD though, and instead got the boxset with all three movies. Does anyone have that?

CAJOLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE :bow

Didn't really do it for me.  It wasn't bad, but all the Bourne films seem alike to me.

I hope I get the DVD for Christmas, and I will watch all three back-to-back. It will be incredible.

I loved it. Amazing movie. I still like the first more. I've always prefered Doug Liman's directing style (Go, Swingers..etc) and look of the film compared to  2 & 3. And I LOVED the run lola run girl. But all are amazing

1 - 9.5
2 - 9
3 - 9

Yeah, they're all GREAT!

They're okay if you like seeing the same thing over and over again.  Infighting and conspiracy amongst CIA creates an elaborate plan to pin something on Bourne, who was just off the grid and now Matt Damon must fight the movie-of-the-week hitman and CIA Prick-of-the-Week with shaky cam and martial arts.  A lot of the action sequences even felt retreaded from Supremacy.

If you want to be reductionist you can say similar things about any franchise. Spiderman, emo, emo, sweeping shot, emo, emo, fights bad guy.

Willco makes a fair point, but the same can be said of many trilogies. And also, in Ultimatum nothing is really pinned on Bourne per se. This time it's more of a mission to eliminate him and all other ties that connect the CIA to a new, illegal program. And while Bourne is attempting to find out who he is, the chick in the CIA is also struggling against the powers that be, who misuse CIA power. So there's that duality between both characters

The movie felt more like a direct sequel than Supremacy to me. In terms of the action, all three movies feature a car chase but I wouldn't say they're rehashed. Each one is different, and I thought Ultimatum's was the best. Although there was a bit more of a suspension of reality with the police car scene, where Bourne is purposely ramming into cars without any whiplash effect. But hey, at least he's not jumping on flying jets

I need to see Supremacy again. I remember Identity but I'm a bit fuzzy on Supremacy

It's not even being reductionist - that's the core structure of every Bourne film.  Bourne is off the grid.  For some reason, conspiracy and infighting in the CIA create a setup where Bourne is back on the grid.  They try to kill Bourne, but fail miserably, and Bourne learns a dark secret about his past.  At the end, the CIA villain is dead or incarcerated.  The assassin(s) they send to kill Bourne are dispatched.  Bourne goes about trying to lead a normal life and/or make penance for his past sins.  By the time Ultimatum rolls around, the plot device of sinister CIA suit trying to get rid of Bourne seems distinguished mentally-challenged - it has failed horribly twice, why attempt again?

I bought it for my brother for Christmas on HD-DVD. He's got the first two already, so we're going to have to have a HD Bourne marathon some day soon.

i think this is my favorite of the three, but someone said that they're all basically smokey and the bandit.  smokey always one step ahead of the law taunting them.

i can see it.

I really hope they do not do Part 4. I fear this plot will grow stale quickly since they are all so similar.

the other two are a bit different

same plot (basically) but it's the way that the story is told that makes it better.
