If you nicca's want some of my milk shake, you best line up and have your cock-sucking faces ready to go.  All 6 movies in 1080p, bitches, surround sound.  Shit looks pristine, like a clean-shaved white boy sitting naked on a porcelain throne.
Over 50 motherfuckin gigs of HD STAR WARS.

I heard that at highest quality the original trilogy alone is 1 TB.  maybe that's uncompressed though.

Each movie is about 8 gigs.

I'll upload a pic.  Keep in mind that it's not a remaster or anything, so it won't look as good as when Lucas works his mojo.  Similar to how Blade Runner was shown in HD before the final cut, this was a quick and dirty 1080p.  It still looks spanking.

Also, the resolution on my pic will be a bit off since I don't have the screen width to take a full screen cap.

Like I said, quick and dirty, but it gets the job done.  It seems like matte paintings in general do not fare well in HD until they have been officially jizzed on.

Can you do a screen cap of Vader holding his hand out (before he balls it up into a fist) in that scene where he's talking to Luke at the bottom of Bespin right near the end of their big fight in Empire?  I wanna make that into a wallpaper.  LOOKS FUCKING GORGEOUS AT 1080P.

Haha, give me a few minutes.  I was going to cap that one, but there were more little details in this one.  There's lots of movements in these scenes, so it's difficult to get one that looks clean.

It looks brilliant on my TV.  The biggest thing I know they will fix whenever the official release happens is the coloring.  It seems that when increasing resolution without close access to the source, the richness of color is what takes a hit first.  Don't get me wrong, they all look fucking great, but it seems like "stretching out" the color takes away some of the pop.

These movies are such a huge part of my childhood that I can't really analyze them objectively.  Are they really great movies (well, the first two and pieces of the third), or am I forever blinded by nostalgia?  I have no clue.  I just know that, more than Indiana Jones, more than Star Trek, more than Jaws, more than E.T., I was a Star Wars kid.  I had Slave I and Boba Fett before I knew who Boba Fett was (other than 'cool guy in mask who captures Han Solo').

I bought this over the holidays:

It is fucking amazing.  Unlike most Star Wars books, which tend to look at the movies through the veil of the mythology Lucas created around himself and the origins of series, this is based on interviews that were done before the movie was even released.  It includes hundreds of pages focused on early script treatments, Ralph McQuarrie's initial character and mechanical designs for the project.  It singlehandedly explodes the myth that both trilogies burst from Lucas's head full-grown like Pallas Athena from Zeus's forehead.  There's a treatment where Luke was a girl, another where all the Jedi-type characters were going to be speaking Japanese (Lucas was looking at Toshiro Mifune to play the character who would eventually become Obi-Wan Kenobi), another where Han Solo was a green-skinned scaly alien, etc., etc.  In the early drafts, Lucas's dialogue is even MORE atrocious than in the final product (if that can be believed).

And Obi-Wan Kenobi wasn't supposed to die in the first movie originally...the only reason Yoda exists is because he needed someone to teach Luke in the second movie and he'd killed off Obi-Wan in the first! :lol

I always thought it was kinda creepy that Luke was more depressed by Obi-Wan dying (who he knew for, what, a couple of days?) than he was for his aunt and uncle who raised him his whole life.

To be fair, his aunt and uncle were total assclowns that wanted to hold Luke down; deny him his destiny.  Obi, however, represented his destiny.

I've been dvring them on HBO Hi Def, they look incredible.  I watched the end of Return the other day, I never saw such color in the final throne room battle.  I also have II and III.  So I only have half so far  :'(

The Making of book is amazing.  It's fun figuring out exactly when certain concepts were first created.  For example, while it's pretty clear Vader and Luke's father where completely different characters until Empire, the concept of a Sith Lord (named Valorum) being redeemed and helping the good guys is there in early drafts.

Plus this little gem:

"It is said that certain creatures are born with a higher awareness of the Force than humans.  Their brains are different; they have more midi-chlorians in their cells."  This was written by Lucas on August of 1977 as part of the universe background given to spin-off authors.  :shh

Also, Lucas has the handwriting, grammar and spelling of a 10 year old.

BTW, the same author is doing a book covering all the Indy movies in the same style.

Wow, I need to get this book. As a kid the Star Wars films captivated me like no other franchise, and to this day I still cannot deny that magic. Interestingly I haven't seen the original trilogy in years; the last time I saw it was on VHS actually after my dad found the olllld trilogy set at a Salvation Army thrift sale. I saw the re-mastered version in theaters ages ago as well, and before that I remember my dad renting each movie for me and my brothers. I was pretty young, and after watching one I'd beg him to go get the next one lol

But omg the saddest thing I ever saw: when I played basketball at this Baptist school, we were on the bus driving to a game when I heard a teammate explaining the entire Star Wars trilogy to one of our ballboys. The kid had to be around my age at the time, 13 or 14, and had never seen Star Wars. So my teammate was explaining all the details from each movie, then he got to ESB :/

Teammate: So then Vader cut off Luke's hand, and he was trying to get away on this big pole thing
Ballboy: Wow
Teammate: Yeah, like a space flag pole. And then Luke told Vader he hated him because he killed his father
Ballboy: He did? Oh yea I remember you told me that
Teammate: AND THEN Vader said no Luke, I'm actually your father
Ballboy: No way!

I don't know what was worse, discovering a 14 year old BOY in AMERICA had never seen Star Wars, or listening to someone spoil the entire trilogy to him in such a horrible way  :'(

As a kid, the Star Wars series bored me like no other franchise. The trilogy prequel didn't help at all either. It's better than shitty ass Star Trek though, so that's a plus.

I have the annotated screenplays for the original trilogy. It basically says the same things. Plus, like every good line of dialogue written for A New Hope was added in by other people besides George Lucas. They actually put an asterisk by every line he didn't write for ANH. Reading it before 1999, I was pretty shocked, but then the prequels came out, with the love dialogue, and it makes much more sense.

All the old screenplays and shit are available online.  To get a teaser of the book, just read the original 10-14 page concept, and compare it in your head to how the movies actually turned out.

I dunno.  With how half-assed those DVDs were, I don't think we'll see a good transfer of the unmolested trilogy until George is 6 feet under.  And I hope he dies soon, and suddenly, so he can't destroy the originals, and so he won't have much more time to further rape the movies.

Everything says he's done changing the OT.

Other than Greedo shooting first (which was changed) and that horrid, horrid sequence they added to Return of the Jedi with the puppets and CG, the additions weren't that bad. Most improved a lot of stuff (like that fucking bullshit "forcefield" land speeder shit, the Han and Jabba sequence in ANH, amongst others) that actually made the films better.

Sure the Special Editions have some bad things, but they have good things too.

We are coming from different places, because I think the Han/Jabba scene is emblematic of the problems of the molested trilogy.  Pointless changes that, at best, add nothing, and at worst (which is frequently), ruin things that were previously good.  That shitty Jabba CG dates the movie more than any of the very 70s hairstyles or costumes.

It's better in the DVD releases, but I can see that argument. Overall, the sequence ties it in more with Return of the Jedi, I think.

The only thing I actually liked about the changes were the removal of the "halo" edges around everyone on the blue screen stuff, and some of the other tech "clean-up" stuff.  Greedo shooting first was just fucking stupid - and not because I'm some clammy-palmed Star Wars fanboy, but because Han suddenly seems to develop superpowers out of nowhere - fast enough dodge a laser bolt?  C'mon, dude, he's a weaselly space smuggler, not the fucking Flash.  I remember a ripple of laughter through the crowd during that scene, and the janky-ass Jabba scene.

I also remember being kind of bored.  The first Star Wars has some terrible pacing issues.

The Jabba scene is the single worst addition to the original Star Wars.  Not only does it ruin the big reveal of Jabba in Return of the Jedi (one of the better scenes in that admittedly flawed movie), it simply repeats all the information we'd found out during the Greedo scene, the CG is sloppy (the incredible shrinking Jabba! Guess he went on a diet between Phantom Menace and New Hope, only to gain back all the weight before Return of the Jedi), and the whole thing with Han stepping on Jabba's tail is horribly done (and makes no sense).

ESB is my favorite of the trilogy.

The changed Greedo scene makes me cry emo tearz. I think it flaws Han's character. He's a badass smuggler. Him not shooting first kind of takes away from that.

on the "special" edition sets, the original unaltered movies are included - in non-anamorphic letterbox.  lucas claims the original elements were destroyed during the making of the special editions, but i think everyone knows that's bullshit

No, that's actually true.  Lucas ordered the original "non-special edition" elements destroyed.  The only ones that exist in high-quality restored form nowadays are the altered ones.

that's the "official" story, but I bet there's a vault somewhere on skywalker ranch with at least some original, unaltered, high-quality prints of the first three movies.  i can't believe he'd be that stupid
