Jobs throws a diss at the Zune

Quote
I told Jobs that I had sat down with Microsoft's Robbie Bach last week at the Consumer Electronics Show.  I mentioned that Bach was particularly optimistic about the new Zune, that it was now a worthy alternative to Apple's iPod.

Asked Jobs:  "Was he inebriated?  Do you even know anyone who owns a Zune?"

Here comes the fear.  Zune kicks much ass.

Jobs = wet crotch in lacey undies.   8)

You're insane.  I still have an iPod, but the new Zune wipes the floor with it.  The audio quality and features alone.  The 4GB Zune is like a portable party in my pants.

Gay.

My background is TOM CRUISE: distinguished mentally-challenged fellow.  I am actually converting the Tom Cruise is Crazy! Scientology video to my Zune so I can show all my co-workers.

The 30GB Zune is good. But it's bulky, the batteries drain quickly, and the shuffle sucks. I should not hear the same song three times within a two day span. And I should not hear four Beatles songs in a row.

*I have about 20 gigs of music on it.

The songs in question were Iron Man and Mother (by Pink Floyd) so I wasn't that upset.

I like the Podcast management too.  The wireless sync function comes in handy in mornings - I just wireless sync, grab the latest PTi podcast and Attack of the Show video podcast and I'm out the door.

I got it open box (brand new) at BestBuy for like $130 IIRC. It's no longer on their site though.

The only problem with it (and I imagine it's the same with all Zune stuff) is the remote is not full-featured (MS wants you to spend like $50 on theirs).

Do they have a docking station for the 4GB/8GB Zune yet?  I'd really like to put one next to my 360 and HDTV, so I can charge and leech off my music collection while playing games.

Here it is:

http://www.tulipstuff.com/altec-lansing-ipod-home-audio-system-black-p-5869.html?currency=USD

Can't speak for the newer ones, got this a almost a year ago.

It came with wires to hook up to your TV too :). And multiple cradles for different manufacturers. This one is branded iPod so I dunno what the deal is, mine was branded Zune but I'm sure it's the same deal.

Not to do a shitty comparison, but it took the iPod upwards of 5-6 years to get decent randomization.  We all know that Winamp to this very day sucks with it.  There's just something with randomization algorithms and mp3s that must be difficult.

I am tempted to get either a 4 or an 8 gig.  I need a flash player.  It's not particularly high priority at the moment.

I got it at BestBuy for $30, they have a website too though.

http://www.dlo.com/Products/leatherzune_Prod.tpl?command=showpage&cart=1200881667224924

$35 there.

Real handy clip for a belt loop. Had it for a while, holds up very well. Has a nice little pocket in the flap too, I keep my schedule there at the start of each semester.

Yeah, iTunes alone is a good reason to buy a Zune, I will admit to that, especially since the Zune software is basically a reworked Windows Media Player 11.

How much more intuitive can an interface really get than what the iPod has? One of the reasons it caught on so well is because the interface is so fucking straightforward.

Also is that huge ass text really how the interface looks on the Zune?

That huge ass text is awesome. Once you get into the sub menus the text is small and alinged at the top of the screen but that main screen text is one of the things I like about my zune.

The tree stucture of my ipod mini was a mess.  Getting songs to shuffle was a chore unto itself.

With the ZUne every single function is a click or two away.

And 'quicklist' is sent from the heavens.  :bow

Select the albums/artists I want in my quicklist, turn shuffle on with 2 clicks, and I'm good to go.
