Yeah, I have a sickness.  Sort of.

Basically I'm an obnoxious fan of the series, and thus when I first got it I loved it so much, I felt like I had to be able to play it with my friends on both machines.  I've already put nearly 50 hours into the game overall.  I'll be playing that for months to come on both systems.  

Some of my other duplicates are because I got them dirt cheap or something.  Althought COD4 was the same story as Burnout.  Loved the online so much I had to be able to play with all my friends.  Unfortunately I have some real life friends on both machine and I hate it.  I wish they'd all just agree on one somehow.

My best friend has it and lives 5 minutes from my house.  I also skipped it because I knew 07' was just a warmup for the real next gen version of the game which would be 08'.  I'll be buying 08' for sure. 

I also felt the rumble was necessary to make the game complete, and I knew that would be in the 08' edition.  You have to have it when playing multiplayer because you know where you're aiming the pitch based on the rumble telling you you're on the edge of the strike zone.

Then I got the full game and by the time I had finished it thought it was one of the best games I'd ever played.  Seriously, don't listen to the hate, and don't think that the review is an accurate idea of how the entire 8-10 hour single player game plays out.

That's about what I expected. I'll probably borrow it someday or get it for $20.

I did Gears' campaign once, if that game didn't have online (or if its graphics had been par for the course at the time of release), I wouldn't have bothered.


As an aside, I really don't understand why some people feel the need to constantly push the game as if it's some must-play game that's fit for everyone. I have an idea of why though.

I've been playing games for over 20 years now, and I still find so much joy in them.  It seems like a lot of people on this board are just shitty about every fucking game.  This game rips off that game, this game waters down that other game, this game seems dumb, this game doesn't have enough loots, this game is "only" 10 hours long.

Edit: And don't go trying to say that I'm just some guy who buys everything and loves everything.  Because that is most certainly not the case.  If you look at my collection of PS3 and 360 games I don't buy a shit ton of games like so many people do these days.  I think I'm pretty selective, and I know what I like.

In the end I just think people need to play games for what they are, not what they hope they are.  I didn't go into Uncharted thinking "This is so gonna be Gears on an Island", or "This is gonna be dude raider".  I just don't think like that.  I went into that game with a very open mind, and a hope to enjoy an Indiana Jones style adventure game in the next gen, and thats exactly what I fucking got.  I ate that shit up, and I'm on my second playthrough on "hard" now.  The game has a unique setting for games of today, and the gameplay is very tight and well polished.  The graphics are obviously among some of the best we've seen on consoles today, and the story while very campy and silly, is a lot of fun, if you have an open mind.  If you sit there and nitpik the shit out of everything, and constantly sit and compare every game to other games while you play it, you're not going to enjoy the experience they laid out for you.

I loved Uncharted personally.  I thought the demo was lackluster but the full game was all loads of fun.  I'm looking forward to replaying it in higher difficulties.

The biggest problem with Uncharted is that it's mostly a shooter yet its shooter elements aren't particularly well done.  Uncharted simply had too much competition from other shooters in 2007.  Why play Uncharted when you can play COD4, Bioshock, Orange Box, Halo 3, Crysis, etc?  Uncharted isn't a bad game but it's something that one would rent only after having played all the top shooters of the year.  

It would have been a different story if Uncharted had been made more like a modern Indiana Jones game.  There were moments in Uncharted that hinted of such a potential but those moments occured far too infrequently.  It's also too bad that the platforming sections were fun to watch but not so fun to play because they hardly required any skill.

There is no other game on the market right now like Uncharted.  Thats why it's so special.  It's unique among next gen games.  COD2 is not.  PRG4 is not.  RE:UC is crap by most accounts.  Dead Rising was a sort of unique action game, but it's not doing anything truly unique or special.

I havent finished it - but I will say Uncharted is still the best looking game I have seen on a modern game console from what I have played so far.

The game is also far better with a Dual Shock 3 controller and rumble.

See, this is where the jaded comes in.  You act like every good game reinvents the wheel.  Uncharted borrows gameplay from a bunch of games, just like nearly every game does.  It's the combination of the whole package that makes it unique.  Do I really have to explain this to you?  Can you name me 3rd person action games that take place on a sunny island?  It doesn't really happen these days.  Can you name me another action/adventure game that tells a fun and sorta interesting story through cutscenes that are that well acted?  Can you name me a 3rd person action adventure game that has shooting elements that feel as tight as Uncharted's?  How about a cover system that works as well as Gears?  It's not that common.  When they put all of that together, with true next gen visuals, and a very impressive soundtrack, it's easy to see why it got a lot of very high review scores, and nearly every person that TRULY PLAYED THE GAME enjoyed the hell out of it.  Of course half the people commenting on it have played a demo which shows you 10 minutes of the most boring part of the game.

Joe - how do you rate Transformers: The game?

It's not a great game, it's more of a rental if anything. It's fun for an hour or so though, just smashing through cars and houses and anything that gets in your way. Once you cause enough damage the police show up and shoot at your with their little pea shooters that do almost no damage to you, and you can respond by picking up their police car and hurling it into a building.  It's so ridiculous. Once you start actually doing the quests though, it's pretty meh. Your missles and lasers are completely worthless since enemies with use their shields to block them, even if they've knocked down on the ground or they're facing the opposite direction (WTF?). You have no choice to but to engage every single enemy in fisticuffs, which gets old pretty quick since you have basically one move.

It's basically the same exact thing as the previous games, only in HD. I haven't tried the multiplayer yet, though.
