You know, I think a very high percent of the population would go for moderate gun control reform (limiting assault weapons, closing the gun show loophole, actually enforcing current laws), but it's become a values debate instead of a policy wonk issue. The Brady people push for a maximum ban, which scares gun-owners who flock to the NRA, which is basically an industry group.
Also, Willco's a good example of someone who doesn't actually agree with the major planks of the Republican party (hating gay people, hating black people, hating sluts), but is really put off by the seat belts/trans fats/smoking stuff.
The sanctimonious bureaucrat type from (the wildly underrated) King of the Hill is probably as much a reason people vote Republican as anything.
The NeoGAF Republicans aren't any better than, say, Triumph. It's unfair that he doesn't get crap, but it's not unfair that they do.
