So I met a friend for lunch today at the food court of the local Japanese grocery store (http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=12721#comments) and we noticed a large group of nerds (or is that a group of large nerds?) taking up two benches next to us. Obese blonde girls in cat ears and unfastened bustiers, doughy guys wearing "OTAKU" shirts in the Oakley font, even a token pudgy Japanese girl who had been ostracized by her peers and had been forced to hang out with the fattie Americans to find societal succor. There was even a guy in a Naruto headband.

My friend and I were like, what's going on here? My theory was that they were a local community college anime club, judging by the number of food-stained manga sharing being awkwardly brandished about. BUT THEN! A pock-faced man-child wearing a Polysics t-shirt reached into his manpurse and pulled out a stack of full-page, black-and-white printouts of the Super Smash Brothers Brawl cast and distributed them to the group. He then started setting up the brackets on a specially-designed Excel printout.

This was in a 5-minute span. I thought about asking if they post at GAF, but that would have required acknowledging their presence.

Reminds me of Wii launch night.  After that ordeal, it's not a manner of opinion but a law of science:  all Nintendo fans are fucking distinguished mentally-challenged fellows.

I went to the local store, there were a bunch of people standing outside, nothing too freakish IMO, they looked like your typical high schoolers... A few parents with their kids, but most of the crowd were your typical high school emo/nerd/hipster/dork/etc. kid. Almost everybody there was white. There were a few skinny, plain girls in the crowd too, with their boyfriends. Didn't really see anything too funny, I heard some young (HS probably) kid in front of me who, when looking at the Lost Odyssey poster hanging on the storefront, complaining about turn based RPGs... wanted to smack him across the face on principle.

I don't really like going on coffee dates for a first date... b/c you're forced to rely on your conversation skills and wittiness for an hour or two, and it's kind of hard to venue switch. I usually try and go on activity dates... like bowling or Dave and Busters... then after that I will suggest going for dinner or dessert. Activity dates are fun, you can make observational conversation instead of rattling off about yourself like an interview process, it's GREAT flirting - like if they are bowling and get a gutter ball, you can tease them, or if they are playing pool and are unsure how to take a shot, you can get behind them and show them how to hold the cue, or even simple body contact like high fiving them after getting a good shot. Best first date ever, I was at Dave and Busters with this awesome girl (that was about 5'11" and built like a rugby player, but really pretty face) and we were playing Time Crisis. And she told me how she loves to shoot a gun and owned one when she lived in VA. That gave me the biggest boner ever.

Every single first date I went to bowling or Dave and Busters at, I got a second date... I only got a second date from a coffee date ONCE (out of being on 30+ coffee dates). We venue switched to a bar though, since she was an Irish girl.

bar dates are way better becuase you can both loosen up a bit and actually get a good indication of chemistry (if there is any)... but fuck I havent been out on a date for so long.. the city I live in is full of babes but they are mostly dumb and boring, I'll hopefully get laid when I move back home, chicks you find in bars there are generally geekier (big plus) and you can talk nonsense to them all night and they'll get really into it

Ive been reading some ludicrous threads at GAF and Gamefaqs, theres so many idiots out there who actually cant believe that a lot of people dont like Smash Brothers.. comments like omg youre a troll for saying you dont like this game, or go kill yourself if you dont buy smash etc., unbelievable

I didn't get it on launch day because I was housesitting for my sister and her fucking furnace broke so I had to stay around for the repair guy to get there.

I ended up getting it monday after work. I got it mainly due to the online play, as a couple friends were getting it too. But I don't get the obession. It feels kinda sloppy and shallow for a fighter. It's okay though.

I like Smash, although I haven't played in weeks, ever since I finished the Subspace Emmisary mode.   The main game generally doesn't interest me enough to play it over other fighters, although I have yet to go online.  Playing through it, it's clear that Smash is an incredibly solid game, and the last one did come out back in 2001, so the hype is understandable...

...BUT I can't help but think that so many Wii owners are going nuts for the game simply because they have nothing else to play, as has been the "Nintendo Difference" since the N64 days. 

What the hell happened to the Wii?  It was on a roll with a steady software line-up in the late summer/fall, and now it's sort of dead again.

Yeah, they're so delusional about Smash Bros. being an actual fighting game...
