Played all night with my bud.
I'm still not sure who to play as. After further investigation, Sonic sucks. He has no good "fuck off and get out of the screen" moves, and most of his move arsenal consists of spin dash stuff, which makes his move list feel redundant. Snake is neat, but not exactly fun to use imo. Which is disappointing. On top of that, the Shadow Moses stage is really lacking.
So far I'm partial to Diddy, Meta Knight, Jigglypuff, Fox, and Ice Climbers. Right now Fox is my main. His move list clicks with me the most, he's not a bad damage dealer, and he's got plenty of GTFO moves. My issue with him is that his Final Smash isn't that fun to use.
Single player continues to impress greatly. Cleared a few characters on my friend's file tonight on Classic mode. Love the credits that has you shoot every single character in the game for points.
The level design continues to impress even more so. The non static stages: Pictochat, F-Zero, Donkey Kong, Game and Watch, Wario Ware;etc. stages are easily my favorites because they have you continuiously moving or getting involved. I adore the level design a lot. If only other fighting games had stages nearly as creative as the Game and Watch stage.
SSE continues to impress as well. The Donkey Kong stage felt like a genuine platformer right out of Donkey Kong Country.
The Masterpieces section is LOL. I tried out Star Fox 64 and by the time I started playing the trial was already up, and for shit's and giggles (because I KNEW exactly where the trial would end) I tried out OoT, and the trial ends in the middle of the cutscene between Navi and Link. I don't know why they even do that stuff. I mean, OoT's intro is long as hell so why bother when you have a 3-5 minute time limit?
This will be bought day one when I get a new Wii along with No More Heroes.
