I seem to remember him claiming he didn't have to pay taxes because he was making up for money the government owed him in reparations or something. Somehow that excuse didn't pan out.

They had scans of some of his tax returns on The Smoking Gun and when he was making like $10-15 Million off each Blade movie, he put his earnings down as $0. Literally $0. It wasn't like he was trying to hide how much money he was making, he just claimed that he didn't make any money at all.
