I really hope Rockstar fixes the broken-ass driving in a patch or something.

Real world physics?  GTA4?  I guess it all depends on what world we're talking about.

What an insult to Forza and GT5, I mean, when I drive this hyperrealistic Viper the car tends to fly 20 FEET IN THE AIR WHEN I HIT THE CURB

McDragon, I tried turning off UPnP but still no dice. I was connected for maybe two seconds before getting kicked. My internet has no traffic or anything. Live won't even sign into messenger.

Unsurprisingly, Pimpbaa agrees with that post, and thinks that the driving is "quite awesome".

It's interesting, I'll give it that, but driving in GTA has always seemed floaty as hell and GTA4 is no exception.  It's like driving on the moon.  I just wish they'd give the cars more weight or release some sort of cheat that'd give us that option.

That's basically what this shit amounts to.

"I need your clothes, your boots, and your motorcycle"  :-X

I think it's important to note that both the original Xbox and PSP iterations of GTA have handled custom soundtracks better than the Xbox 360 version. Who's to blame? I suspect it's one of the programmers responsible for the Xbox 360 firmware, or perhaps even the Microsoft certification process itself. Although, I suppose a terribly executed custom soundtrack is still better than no custom soundtrack at all.

360's auto-custom soundtrack made all devs lazy. I think some games still go the extra mile, XBox-style though. It's not impossible.

WTF - the PS2 GTAs has Driver-style controls, not this one. I was just playing Driver on PSP a few weeks ago.

GTA4 controls are nowhere near 'realistic.'

what makes the driving even more terrible/frustrating is the fact that your enemies never seem to have to obey the same "realistic" physics laws you do

i quit playing after trying the motorcycle gang chase/shootout mission 3 times, and realizing i just wasted thirty minutes of my life repeating something in a game i wasn't enjoying to begin with

i wish someone would hurry up and give me that $50 on ebay

also, as far as radio stations and side missions go, it's pretty obvious why the pickings are a little slim

The mission that broke my patience almost for good last night was the one for Elizabeth where you have take some dude 15 minutes across the map and you get sprung by some undercover cops at a drug bust. Failed the mission first go and had to drive across again.

Why even have a mission restart?

The one where you snipe guys in a worksite off the top of a building and then run in to kill the union leaders is the same. Making you re-drive everywhere is fucking stupid and infuriates me.

i was, to my utter shock, really enjoying GTA4.

and then i hit the bullshit bike chase mission.

I quit out, and despite autosave on and a few save points - i seem to have lost the 2 hours i put into the game last night.

fucking WIZARD! :/

I'm still pretty happy with the game to be honest, but damn - the bike mission is awful.
And perhaps some hint that unloading my uzi into the first getaway guy isn't going to work would be nice.

first two times, i let the guy "escape" due to the jacked-up vehicle controls and trying to shoot him even though it turns out i wasn't supposed to

third time, a dude came out of nowhere and yanked me off the bike in the park, and before i could get up the rest of the gang shot me to death

i suppose if i were autistic i'd really groove on the kind of repetition gta games seem to require, but i'm not, and other than the characters/story i really wasn't enjoying the game at all

No clue, don't see any option to turn off lease or something.

how about using manual IP settings instead of DHCP for 360?

go to your 360 connection settings and set it as manual

IP should be the same as the picture, just change the last digit (ie 192.168.0.X), subnet the same and default gateway = 192.168.0.1.

primary/secondary dns servers can be found on your router page or via Start ---> run --> cmd --> ipconfig /all

edit: off to bed, good luck.

i'm on a 20gb launch unit (upgrade to 250gb).

Same happened to me yesterday.  You have to turn off your online connection in the PS3 dashboard....but take the disc out.  I tried to jump directly to the dash with the disc in and I had to cycle the power in the back to get it up again.  LOL@Rockstar.

I still don't know why I'm going through the game on both systems.  I started on the 360, then went to the PS3, and now I'm trying to get through both versions.  My preference for which version is better seems to change every hour or so.  It's a sickness I tell ya.

I had someone pull the "real world physics" card on me when I complained about the handling being like driving on ice on slicks when I was sucking up the rear on an online race. I told him that I have Forza 2 to take care of my real world physics needs, and hoped that Midnight Club LA doesn't drive like molasses. I really need to get used to this.

And how in the hell do you play QUB3D? I suck at this minigame...  :-\

The game would be short as shit if not for all the driving back and forth. Why can't the missions all be sorta near the mission givers? Why do the McReary's live in east Bofuck but all their missions are in Manhattan?

People bitch when Gears or Halo or Ratchet are 8 hours long but then this game is like 20 hours long with all that fluff.

It feels a bit like Assasins Creed in that regard - making the travel longer than the missions. I wouldn't usually care in GTA but the side missions are boring and repetitive. No hidden packages (cant see pigeons for shit, bring back the real hidden packages), no killing sprees... I'd much rather this game be 10 hours long with no 20 minute drives.

When it comes down to it there's not much in the city. 4 clothes stores, only 4 or 5 different types of restaurants spammed anywhere, 3 strip clubs. Vice City did way more with its space so far. So did Saints Row, obviously.

They've got their great atmosphere but they would've done better to delete the last island and just make the content of the remaining ones denser. Maybe this game will come into its own with the 360 DLC.

I've found 3 pigeons. One was by accident, as the camera angle during one of Jacobs drug deliveries had a giant glowing red pigeon in the midldle of the screen. I couldn't be bothered trying to find them.

I really don't understand EB sometimes. I mean, GTA4 is flawed, fuck yeah it's flawed, but Saint's Row is still worse. On top of a completely unstable engine, what with the floor disappearing, constant glitching and freezing, the framerate is so asstastic, especially when more than a single cop car is within a mile of you. On top of THAT, the wanted meter is a shitheap, the sound effects are horrific, and the textures make the game look like this ugly cel-shaded/normal mapped heathen. Add to that some absolutely disgusting art and models, as well as shit VA for everyone but Keith Motherfucking David.

Saint's Row is forever banned to being a 6/10. Who the fuck releases such an incomplete game? That's not to say GTA4 is amazing, since it's like a 7/10. Point being, nothing has topped Crackdown as king of sandbox games this gen (if you forget the first 3 hours of the game completely).

Great argument for a game that came out 2 fucking years ago. I want to kick you in your tits. Saints Row plays better, period. And it's two years old. GTA4 got delayed and it still wound up a lackluster turd with gameplay from 10 years ago, not one single improvement.

I'm enjoying the game, especially the shooting, but there are beefs here dude! SR never froze on me in 30+ hours. I love the shooting but the world could ahve more in it, the missions could have checkpoints, and the missions that don't involve shooting are lifted straight from PS2 games. CHASE GUY ON BIKE! SNIPE FROM ROOF AND DISRUPT UNION! DROP OFF BODIES IN TRUNK!

SR is rough around the edges but SR2 will be so hot.

And SR seems to be less of an incomplete game than GTA4. At least SR had tons of gameplay. GTA4 has its share of glitches and hitches and a whole lot less to do.

I'm enjoying the game, especially the shooting, but there are beefs here dude! SR never froze on me in 30+ hours.

SR is rough around the edges but SR2 will be so hot.

And SR seems to be less of an incomplete game than GTA4. At least SR had tons of gameplay. GTA4 has its share of glitches and hitches and a whole lot less to do.

-shrug- I can concur that SR doesn't take its story seriously, but when I played, it felt like the the entire game didn't take itself seriously.

needs more shoot out missions, less chases.

but where are all these glitches people are talking about?  Okay, yeah, the freezing thing is huge, but when it's not doing that, it's fine.

This board is populated by iconoclasts and bearded men gamers.  When has this forum ever liked anything that was huge mainstream hit that didn't start life on the PC?  The best thing you can learn from lurking or posting here is the following: don't take anything seriously and don't let anyone's thoughts sway yours.

Personally, I really have enjoyed Grand Theft Auto 4, but it's a very flawed game that would've benefited from either more development time or being platform exclusive.  Maybe both.  It doesn't deserve its "perfect" status nor being awarded the greatest videogame ever, but it is damn enjoyable.

I love GTA4, but just like every single game that's come out this gen, not just SR, it's plagued by about a billion fads we've been reusing since NES days

ffs devs, mid-mission checkpoints are fucking important.

I'm pretty much addicted to the game and I truly enjoy it, maybe even love it, but every hour or so I hit some shit that just pisses me off.

Game needed another 6 months.

now that I think about it, it's really fucked that I haven't had more shooting missions.  The construction site, the abandoned hospital, the one with mikhail, and the NOOSE sting op....the rest have been driving.  They've got a whole fucking city and a decent cover engine, they should make us use it more.

I have yet to go on a 6 star rampage though :D

I want to love this game unconditionally. Someone said it best before that I enjoy it but every minute feels like I'm fighting the controls or the design. This shit wouldn't fly with any other title. Why can't I have a GTA that looks like 2008 without playing like 2004?

Can you imagine the shitfest this would have been in October last year when it was meant to launch?

so far i like it. The freezing seeems to be over and was somehow related to the online connectivity.

I think the game wont hit its peak until the 3rd installment this gen...(like how san Andreas >>>> original GTAIII)

Maybe we can get a GTA IV: London

and a GTA IV: Vice City 2010?

??

Have you guys played the online much? every time I play with friends it has been amazing fun. the auto theft game and the cops /criminals game mostly.

oh yeah - the physics in the original GTA III after playing GTA IV hahahaha

I just hope the new Midnight club is more like MCII and less like DUB EDITION.

I've found three jumps so far. Not compelled to find them as much as I was in the old ones.
