I kind of suspect that a few of them dont have jobs and stuff, it's kind of weird. My client is connected and idling all day long, but everytime i get on the computer, the same people are talking; ALWAYS. Even late at night.

I think on gaming forums in particular, moderation tends to mean "status symbol," for some odd reason.  It all goes right to their heads, and people follow them.  See NeoGAF.

I always thought that Evil Lore was nice and he even posted in my thread a few weeks back when my kitten died. He's not my favorite mod over there though, as Bish easily takes the cake. The only mod that I didn't care for was Sporsk, but the jury is still out on Amirox.

The mods here seem to be pretty good and Willco especially seems to be more engaged in discussion than most forum mods.

I first started posting at NeoGAF in July 04, around the release of Star Ocean 3... I found the link off of Kevin Gifford's old Video Fenky site, which I discovered through Insert Credit, which I stumbled upon randomly at work one day. MAF I remember made one of the first posts I ever responded in, a thread about Trance music.

I kinda miss the days where the mods weren't highlighted in red, for the longest time I had no idea who was a mod or who wasn't. Shouta used to respond in a lot of my early threads (mostly about RPGs). I never did mind sp0rsk, aside from some slight questionable Japanophilia, a love for rhythm games and an awkward youtube series, I don't get why people have so much hate for the guy. And honestly, I like duckroll like 100x better as a mod than a regular poster. Don't really deal with Evilore much so I don't have much of an opinion about him. Iapetus, Shouta, -jinx- and of course TVC are my faves if we're gonna pick favorites.

Sadly I don't think this forum has any mods. I've never seen any moderation going on aside from locking a califag thread. The fact that users can lock their own threads helps too.

Maybe we just don't need any mods here  ?

With the current roster of posters, there really isn't a need for moderation here.  All of the idiots have weeded themselves out by being consistent assholes- G, Shake, Cheebs, etc.  Every once in a while someone like Calcifer shows up and has to be put down, but big whoop.  This place is a pretty tranquil little corner of the internets, replete with gay subtext and whatnot.

bishoptl seems like a totally nice guy, but the whole Turok sticky thread nonsense is when I pretty much gave up on GAF entirely. He had this weird convoluted logic about how he wasn't being biased, but that Turok was actually the most anticipated game-cum-franchise revival of 2008, and he was just doing his part to give readers what they want. I still like him as a person, but I'm awfully suspicious of him as a mod at this point.

I do miss pre-Neo GAF. That's why I enjoy reading EB. It reminds me of GAF when it had lax and stable moderation.

MAF definitely did get the short end of the stick, and he certainly did not deserve to be demodded and banned back then (especially considering he was there since the beginning). I was surprised when I read LE's story too, since the NeoGAF mods nowadays edit thread titles all the time. I guess he was caught in the wrong time and place.

Their presence or absence is always so obvious, like when they totally ignore the trolling in a 360 thread or ban anyone who sneezes in a PS3 thread.

There are some great mods on GAF. Blackace is awesome, I like Amir0x, White Man is great; the mods that you rarely even notice (like BuddyC) are cool too. My problem is with people like Dragona and Evillore who command threads. Evillore can be very cool one day and a total ass the next, it's strange

The only post of MAF's that ever stuck with me was when he messed up a spoiler tag or something and some scrub corrected him.  MAF said, "DON'T FUCKING TELL ME HOW TO POST ON GAF!!!"  I knew I was in the presence of greatness.

Honestly I see mods on internet forums as the whole good cop/bad cop deal. There are a lot of hardass mods, but the "good mods" are few and far between.
