I swear I'm the only mother fucker alive who wouldn't even give two shits if games looked like RE4, Ninja Gaiden, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, or FFXII in terms of graphics quality. I quite honestly, would not give a fuck. I'm fine with current gen graphics.

BUBUBUBUB THE GRAPHICS YOU'RE ONLY PAYING MORE MONEY FOR A NEW WAY TO PLAY THE GAME

Jesus Christ these hd fuckers and graphic whores make me want to stuff a shiv up my ass. They make me want to dip my hand in my own semen and eat it right off. They make me want to stuff monkey brains down my butt hole, deficate it, and then swallow it whole.

These graphics fucks need to a new schtick or hobby. Stop playing games and watch movies you fucks.

Here's a funny contradiction. On graphics for this gen:

"You know these games are going to age well. They'll still be a blast to play 10 years from now."

On the Wii and it's power:

"MANNNNNNNN WHY DOES WII HAVE TO USE GRAPHICS FROM LAST GEN?"

I like how you pulled up Twlight Princess and FF 12, equally the last graphically good games of last generation as your example of things you'd like to leave it as.

Seriously that sounds like it was written by a four year old. The only thing I said is that a Gamecube port should be reviewed as Gamecube port in terms of visuals, and I get this n-tard lecture about how people who like graphics should go watch movies.

I kinda agree with you. I'm not a graphics whore, but come on: the Wii's lack of graphical power is going to fuck it over in 2 years. I thought it would take 3-4 years, but after seeing Gears/Motorstorm/etc that's not the case. American console gamers are rather casual and like good graphics. There's never been a console more graphically inferior to its competitors than the Wii, and this is not a good position. This isn't the handheld sector where historically graphics haven't mattered (Game Gear anyone?).

Games that look like RE4 certainly aren't bad looking, and a system that's twice as powerful as the Gamecube isn't totally "weak". But when I look at 90% of the Wii games we've seen so far, it seems like developers aren't even interested in making games that look better than PS2 stuff. That's not going to bode well for the Wii come spring.

I'm a graphics whore.  You know what's going to suck about the Wii?  When in 4 years, 360 and PS3 are hitting their stride and some glorious games are coming out.  Then you're going to see the Wii who is still between generations.  I'm not saying it's the worst thing or the most important thing for the console, but man, you're going to tell me great graphics aren't the icing on the cake for a great game?  Take GoW for example.  Awesomely fun game, and it also happens to have amazing visuals too.

Just my $.02

I just wanna say that I like graphics a lot. But when people act as if previous gens' graphics are suddenly unplayable, especially last gen's, it pisses me off and it shows how superficial they are. Yes next gen graphics look better, but if games continued to look like some of the best looking ones I've gotten this (last?) gen, I wouldn't give a shit.

I think people make too much out of the graphics thing. So what if the graphics are the same as in the gc version? I get a new way to play Zelda and a new way to immerse in the Zelda world, which is something that Zelda's always been about to me, not the dungeons or puzzle solving, but the world, adventure, and immersion that comes from it.  If Wii version can enhance that I'm there.

I've never been a "graphics make the game" type of guy.  But man, a lot of PS2 games have not aged well.  I went back and actually found them unplayable.  This compared to shitty 360 ports too!  I think it has more to do with my HDTV than anything though.  The scaler is awful and makes so many 480i/p games disgusting.  SOTC is still very playable though.  :-*

I agree in a way. I guess that's my jaded mentality going off for a sec. Since I don't have an hdtv, I don't know what ps2 games look like hooked up to one, so i'm pretty sure that'd ruin the experience and make you bitter if that was the case.

Now, I'm not a Wii apologist (obviously) or anything, but one thing that made me laugh my balls off was some idiot on GAF responded to a post saying that the Wii disc had five times the data of the GC disc with "so why don't the graphics look five times better mr. smarty pants lol".

I wanted to reach through the interwebs and rape this idiot.  BECAUSE THE GRAPHICAL PROCESSOR ISN'T EVEN TWICE AS POWERFUL YOU DUMB SHIT MAYBE???

A bit off topic but,

Its ironic that Gears of War looks much better at 6gb then Resistance at its 20gb or so rumored content. Space doesnt matter, and ps3 fans are afraid of mulitple discs all of a sudden.

I don't want graphics and technical advances limited or stopped, but sometimes I wish there was a freeze on them so devs would have to think about art design instead of just upping textures and polys.  You see this sort of thing at the end of a console's lifecycle, but since console lifecycles were cut shorter this last gen, it may be a hard thing to come by in the future.

GoW looks nice now, but its style won't age well.  It'll be seen as plastic mud down the road. It's like the graphics vs gameplay thing, there's no reason you can not have both art design and concept of quality, plus all the updated textures and effects... but you won't see those things if companies can keep taking the easy way out. I am impressed by GoW's visuals, but at the same time I don't like the look of the game.  Abstraction in games works so well, because it allows you to fill in holes better than some devs can. It's like how really bad voice acting can ruin a game, while text despite seeming cheap and low-tech, allows you to hear things in the way you imagine them.  Scoffed voice acting takes you out of the world, over-realism that has holes in its design does so as well.  You got to have an artistic concept behind the whole thing, which is why I wouldn't mind Wind Waker graphics in a new game.

The Wii is essentially an Xbox.  Criticizing a launch title on the Wii because it isn't a generational leap, graphically, from "current" gen titles is pretty pathetic, regardless of whether my saying so is somehow "setting the bar low" for what I think the Wii will accomplish.  That bar is pretty low, period.  I'm a graphic whore, a resolution whore, a texture whore, a detail whore, and, while we're at it, a framerate whore.  But this is like saying a DS game can never deserve high scores while the PSP exists.  Or that portable titles in general can never get high scores because home consoles are more powerful.  I doubt Zelda is a perfect game, but lets criticize it against how well it fulfilled what it's trying to accomplish.

Time for some impressions!

Controls take getting used to, but once you get used to em you're slashin' your sword to and fro like no time. The first time you actually unsheath you sword, swing, and see the game actually do that action is a memorable one.

Fishing is kind of iffy so far but that's because my rod sucks total ass. The tutorial for fishing was really lacking too. They could have put more into that.

Fights are fun!

The controls allow extremely fast switching. I can switch between my sword and slingshot on the fly because of the b button thing. The remote allows for really intuitive stuff.

The game is EXTREMELY story based so far, and about everything you do is story related. The cutscene direction and emotions on characters faces is really great. I'm glad they were able to transfer Link's emotional faces from WW to TP.

The music is amazing. When you find a blade of grass and whistle into it, Link plays the Lon Lon Ranch song from OoT. <3

Mini dungeons galore. I haven't been to the first dungeon yet and I've played 2-3 hours.

I'm on my way to Hyrule. THings about to start getting good soon I bet.  :D

the reason why he gave sound a 7 was because of the low quality speaker in the wiimote and because the MIDI quality soundtrack while nice is too dated.

I understand that, but he gave a 9 to WW in that category. So it doesn't make sense.
WW was also last-gen.

Oh wait, TP is too.

So shouldn't the sound quality be judged as a last gen game like WW?

Holy shit this game is amazing! Hyrule field is HUGE! Oh my god. For those of you FFVII players, you know how it felt when you first left Midgar and you saw this huge world? When I first played FFVII, I thought the whole game would take place in Midgar, and when I left, there was this huge world that I really didn't quite expect. I get that same feeling with TP. It is HUGE.

One great thing about the map is that it's basically the same map layout as OoT's. Fan service. The bad thing with the Wii version is that since the game is flipped, the map is flipped as well. The GC version will be an exact copy of the OoT map in terms of location placement.

I finished the first dungeon. I played 7 hours yesterday. I can't play that much this week until Thanksgiving and Friday. I'm in the traditional Zelda town of Kakariko, and the place is pretty big, but for spoiler reasons I won't delve futher than that.

The first dungeon, while not necessarily hard, was pretty damn fun. One thing I want to emphasize is that this game is probably the most story based Zelda I've played so far (I didn't get far into MM, which is supposed to be the most story based) and I'm pretty impressed. Even down to the smallest characters...even monkeys, the game has great personalities you love to interact with. Midna in particular, is a great character.

She's pretty useful too. She can teleport you to any place you've been in the world.

Oh, and this game is already top contender for personal game of the year. This game is masterful.

Holy shit. I just kicked Moblin ass on horse back. This game is sooo awesome.

The greatest thing about is so far is the balance between dungeon gameplay and story/town based gameplay. It's not as dungeon crawler heavy as LttP or OoT but it has long dungeons. At the same time it places emphasis on characterization and doing stuff outside of dungeons, ala Wind Waker.

It's pretty damn good and I can't get enough.

Working on my up to Death Mountain! I lost my shield in a fire fight. It burned to a crisp. I need a new one now!

I just want to say right here and now that I refuse to believe that this is a Nintendo game. Nintendo games don't have great stories, they don't have story elements this dark or cutscenes that fuck with your mind either. And yet TP has both.

What the hell? Am I really playing a Nintendo game?It doesn't feel like it. It has the Nintendo polish, but I can't recall playing such a rich story in a Nintendo game before, especially a Zelda title.

I am utterly shocked and in disbelief when I say this but...Zelda: TP has probably the best story I've come across from any 2006 title so far. Apart of my main motive for playing is to experience the story, which is uncanny because Zelda stories often have laidback stories or they don't really have much emphasis.

I fully unlocked the main part of the world. For spoiler reasons I will not go over the details, but now a bunch of sidequests have opened up, I've got a new tunic, I can fuse bombs with arrows to make arrow bombs, there's tons of quests opened up now (including reel fishing), and I just learned a new move. This game keeps getting better and better.

I can't buy a Wii right now, so I might as well just save up for a Wii and a HDTV at the same time. Plus I really want to be able to play Zelda on a widescreen without having to go upstairs to use sister's livingroom TV.

My brother is coming over today though and he's a little interested in the Wii. Plus he's a Zelda fiend. If I can convince him to buy a Wii, then screw everything that I just said.  :)

For tradition's sake, the water dungeon is insane! It's got me stumped!

After work tonight I shall be free from my plight for just a few days...tonight I shall get the Master Sword. It is my goal!

Once again, Himuro is carrying a thread by himself by making a post about every section in the game.

I was only able to play a few hours before I left to visit my folks, otherwise I'd give some more impressions.   :-\

I got the Master Sword. I'm not saying anything but I think getting the Master Sword was disappointing. In Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker something magical happens when pull it out. In Ocarina you go in to the future and play as adult Link. In Wind Waker, the castle comes alive and get to kick some Stalfo ass. Nothing really happens when you pull it out in TP, well, it does but it wasn't that exciting.

This game gives a big dose of nostalgia/fan service for Link to the Past and especially Ocarina of Time fans.

One of my favorite aspects of the game is the hidden ability thing. You have to use certain things to unlock certain abilities that make the game a lot more fun (see how I keep being vague to avoid ruining surprises for people?). For example, one hidden ability is the shield bash. You Z-target, and thrust the nunchuck forward. This allows you to bounce back magic attacks, parry attacks to create openings and a lot of other great things.

Remember in Wind Waker, how if you timed it right you would do a counter attack via rolling behind the enemy and slashing their back? In TP it's back but it's so much deeper. Instead of having a button tell when you do it, you do it yourself. To do it, you Z-target, jump to the left or right to avoid the attack, jump in the same direction again to roll, and before the roll finishes you thrust your sword, making a swipe to the backside. That's another hidden ability.

I wonder how many hidden abilities there are because they make the fighting so dynamic and much more open ended compared to past Zelda games. The best part is that they're optional.

The story keeps getting better and better too. This game is awesome.

This could possibly be my favorite Zelda game.

There's a cinematic scene between the first and second dungeon that really just wowed me. Not only that, this is probably the most adventurous that Nintendo has gotten with the story in the series. They made sure they earned that T for Teen.

Of course, I don't need to forget to mention it took me about 3 seconds to get used to the controls. You figure out most of them by doing what feels right. It's amazing how good Zelda feels on this new controller. A-fucking-mazing.

9.9/10 so far from me. It was worth every penny I spent on the Wii and the games.
