5/25/08 - what games did you buy last week/impressions
« on: May 25, 2008, 04:34:15 AM »
Aye was a light week for me - just HAZE.

So far im giving it a 5/10 - I think its better than some reviewers say, and I haven't hit any critical bugs (except for the fact that I once crossed a checkpoint while on fire and had to start my entire campaign over because every time I continued I would start on fire and die in like 45 seconds....no way to fix it that I could find - It doesnt have a "restart level" option, just an option to restart from the last checkpoint where as BAM yer on fire...over and over :( Im gonna take a week or 2 break from this and see if they roll some patches.

Other than that the game does some cool stuff - the online is a blast. FEels like they are going for a Shadowrun-ish type of game. Haze feels like its meant for Shadowrun squad vs vigilantes type online gameplay primarily with a story mode tacked on to help define the game universe better. Having said that - alot of the focus stuff and off colors, and =stuff= will be familiar to anyone whose ever been a microdot muncher. A game that tries to give you the feeling of being a stimulant/hallucinogenic driven soldier. It also makes the dosed characters seem more real than some of the reviewers seem to think. Have you ever been around some kind of pro football player or extremely torqued redneck on LSD? I have seen it, and your squad members in Haze sometimes fit the bill of an army jock on delusional drugs as well. I will say that some of the dialog is just way too much....and just BAD per the review sites.

HAZE is definately a videogame that people who have 'been there' can relate to more. I can see someone who hasnt 'been there' thinking WTF!?!?!? about many things.

Definately not for the SELECTIVE buyer. High volume gamers or collectors should nab this at clearance prices years from now just because its a video game that tries to simulate hallucinogenic influenced battlefield combat.

I still couldnt find a copy of Castle of Shikigami III for Wii this week :(

On next weeks menu (which will be a challenge because im traveling);

- Wii fit
- Caste of Shikigami III
- Enemy Territory: Quake Wars

I bought Motorstorm Complete, only because I have the original Japanese version, and this one has all the DLC plus the multiplayer (originally a patch for the J-version) on one disc for 4000 yen.  And I happened to have 4000 yen leftover on my point card, so what the hey.

Beyond that I have been saving my pennies for Lost Planet Colonies and Battle Fantasia this week, Ninja Gaiden II the week after, and MGS4 the following week.  No time for crap like Haze.

i bought the 360 dlc shivering isles.  i have been playing oblivion off and on since i got it back in 2006.  with shivering isles i feel that the developers outdid themselves with content.  it's lots of fun, easy to get lost in, and for the isles i created a new character to have a little more challenge.

I found a $5 used copy of SD Gundam G Century for the Playstation at Pink Godzilla yesterday. I don't know if/when I'll try it, though...

N+! As awesome like everyone says it is. Played one long session and got to the infamous 14.4 level which was hard, but so satisfying once you got it. Must've spent like an hour on that thing. So much fun, platforming itch = scratched

Sins of a Solar Empire - Played a small map last night against one AI w/ pirates. Played for almost two hours, and I'm not even close to being done. It is so epic and awesome though.

C&C pack - Just played the first GDI mission in C&C3, it's the same old great basic C&C gameplay with hilariously cheesy cutscenes. Red Alert 2 looks better than Generals nowadays. I'm not even sure if I'll be able to stomach Generals. Red Alert series :bow

I bought Target: Terror for the Wii. Got it for 23.99 off Amazon from a marketplace seller. I dig the lightgun genre. This one sucks big time. I would give it a 3/10 but I still enjoy it. Loved the arcade game. It's fun for what it is. I just don't see how the developer couldn't keep a stable frame rate and somehow the enemies flicker sometimes. Still I'm shameful. I can't believe I bought it  :lol

That's why I'm kinda afraid to get it. Everyone gets absolutely addicted to it. I need to play some other games first before I get to it. :P

Just make sure you play it over the summer and not when next semester starts or else you're fucked.

I'm finally playing the 360 again though. I just did like 12 showtime road rules in Burnout Paradise. Now I'm playing DMC4.
