nah let's make this thread about the CivRev demo. Here's my impressions of it:
As someone who has been playing Civ regularly for almost a decade and a half now (currently I play BTS on Emperor difficultly with about a 75-80% win rate), I can say after playing the demo that the game is without a doubt "Civ". The interface works well with the controller and is very intuitive, and most of the game mechanics seem very similar. I never felt once that the game was any less of a Civ game than say Civ4 all because I couldn't chop out Stonehenge or whip out an axeman rush.
Honestly, the only complaint I had about the demo was that I don't fully understand CivRev's specific ruleset vis-ŕ-vis Civ4's. But that's just a matter of playtime and experimentation/research into the ruleset, and certianly it won't be as jarring as the Civ3->Civ4 transition.
Honestly, my only real complaint is that getting to the Civilopedia takes some DVD-ROM access and is a bit slow. Thankfully, after a few games, I've mostly got everything memorized and swapping to it constantly isn't necessary.
