hmm Im level 9 and I can kill the FOEs on floor 2, although if my party gets confused its pretty much game over

still cant beat that guy on floor 1, he just hits too hard.

anyway I think that bow quest sucks, apparently the bent twig is found on floor 3, which makes no sense considering you can make hildi, a better bow using floor 2 materials

haha I just used the FORCE skills for the first time

instead of boost like in EO1 you get these really powerful special skills when a bar fills instead (it takes forever), my alchemist used something called eschaton, which just did 1100 something damage :lol

came right at the perfect time too, I was fighting this ladybug looking thing on floor three when it called for help and this huge screen filling man-eating looking flower thing came

I was like oh shit :o

then bam-insta kill

Well it also seems a bit harder, both in difficulty and getting items to sell for cash.

Stalkers make a return on floor 3 of this game and that's also what almost killed me. I got away at the last second and warped out. They look cooler. Pretty much all the art looks better.

I just learned some FOE's cant be stopped using the previously mentioned haltshot skill. Grinding is made a bit easier using the auto battle function. Its a good balanced difficulty

Much better than the first already.

thats up to you, I really liked the last bits of EO1, the story although minimal really shines there.
There doesnt seem to be many connections between the two games yet story wise, but im sure they will be revealed with time

skip the optional stuff though, its pretty relentless

ok I got to the second stratum last night

the boss was a bitch and a half though, beat at level 17

anyway the beast class is pretty awesome, switched out my war mage for it. No regrets so far.

Edit: FOE's  respawn  :'(

I wouldnt really rely on it too much, you get mass cheese deeper in the forest. There are some FOEs on Floor 10 I fought (Armoth) and they sometimes drop Great Tusks, which give you 1400, and I farmed about 5 of them my last run  :D

Just make sure you have Immunize 10 for your Medic, and the game should be more cake for you.

The core gameplay is exactly the same, but the it looks better and the little details really add up. Expansion pack is exactly right, but it also just feels "fuller". Post in my Builds thread, I need advice!

I would just like to warn you guys

you are not supposed to kill that fire breathing lizard on the 8th floor. You are supposed to lure him away and go around him to find a fire plume on one of the ! squares (the leftmost one).

Then warp wire out. or if you dont have one there is a secret passage below the second ! square

Golem was hard as fuck, wait till near end game if you want and hes much easier.

he has a rare drop if you use OHKO (ronin insta-kill attack) which gives you a good item for ronin

I'm a big wuss and just recreated my EO party as I'm familiar with stuff that way and spent like 90 minutes grinding on the first floor. :hyper

So, my shiny new blue & black DS showed up this morning.  I've been waiting on this for a while- I actually went ahead and bought EO2 last week in preparation.  I went ahead and plugged it in, and fired up the game.

Early impressions:  OMG FUCK AWESOME.  Fun to explore and mapmaking is pretty kewl.  Combat is awesome, got to make sure my party of scrubs (I created one of each class but went with a Ronin, LandsKnecht, Gunner, War Magus and Alchemist initially) stays alive tho.  I was doing pretty well on the training mission, but after I thought I had the area mapped out I went back to the guard and tried to go back to town.  I only had about three medicas left and my war magus was low on TP so I wasn't gonna be doing much more curing.  After stumbling around the dungeon a bit more and things getting dire (out of medica and TP) I realized something was missing on my map... my stupid ass had forgotten to draw in the walls:lol  Yup, I'm a distinguished mentally-challenged fellow.  Oh well, got out alive and sold off my loot, now it's time to go back in and explore some more.

dunno, well:

what I did to my team of gatherers was

get them all to lvl 10, which takes about an hour or so, then I maxed out mine, take and chop with the back few some two maxxed at a time

and put 10 points into stalker on one front guy giving me pretty much 0 encounters in either stratum

and then I put the last guys points into ambush, so even if i did get jumped I could double attack or run .

just gotta watch out for those ambushes at a gathering point really and avoid FOE's and its all easy money

At what levels did you guys start killing the Furyhorns/Ragelopes on Floor 2?  I killed the dinosaur on the first floor but now I don't want to pussyfoot around the guys on the 2nd floor anymore.  I'm about level 9 for my main party (Ronin/Landknecht/War Magus/Survivalist/Alchemist).  Sucks that you don't get xp from FOEs, tho.

Ronins are the coolest.  Lots n lots of offense but shitty defense.  Actually, my team IS based on overwhelming force now that I think about it.  Although they're pretty much dictated by what bad ass weapons I was able to get early, which explains why my Survivalist is in the party (hildi) instead of my gunner.  Well, sounds like it's time to clear me some furyhorns then.

Also:  has anyone else abused the cost of saving at the inn?  I finally got tired of paying 40+ en just to sleep, so I created a bunch of level 1 scrubs named s1 through s5 for the sole purpose of staying at the inn.  I'm super cheap!

I like EO because the stats system is incredibly deep and full of options, the exploration of dungeons gives you a great feeling of discovery and adventuring, and because all in all it's quite lighthearted and relaxing

I decided to scarp my initial "Pinksock" guild and start over since I have a better idea of what's going on now (that and I found a password so I could get the Town Crown.  Yeah, I'm cheap).  I'm currently focusing on getting three survivalists into lumberjack mode so I can make the real fuck monies, in addition to leveling up what will probably be my main team of Ronin/Landsknecht/War Magus/Gunner/ and either a Hexer, Alchemist or another Gunner.  I'm thinking of doing two gunners, I can cover all three elements that way (Ronin is fire, Gunners are Volt and Ice).  Plus Gunners are just ace.

War Magus, of course it's still early and I'm at the beginning of the game so I might need a medic in the future, dunno.  I made one medic and took him out to grind some more when the War Magus was out of TP to heal, then since the day hadn't ended I ended up making another medic when that one was spent just to throw away on some grinding.  I loves me some grinding!

FA- haha, yeah I loooves me some offense.  BAM BAM YOU DEAD SUCKA.  I'm moderately worried that I'm missing out on a bunch of status affect characters (hexer, dark hunter) that I'll need later in the game if I can't resolve a situation with brute force.  But for now, the ASSWHOOPING continues.  Plus gunners can use skills that bind, blind, poison etc so maybe I'll be ok, especially if I end up running with two gunner.  Hmmm.

Also, I took my lumberjacks out with my Ronin and Dark Magus just now to sweep the first floor clean of precious plant fiber to sell, and when I went up to the top left resource point after taking like one flower this big mutant plant thing just showed up and killed off the Ronin and War Magus before I could run the fuck away.  So now there I am, far away from the exit with no warp wire (doh), both of my damage dealers dead, (one of which was my healer, too) and only one item harvested.  I've got a bunch of wimpy ass survivalists with nothing but daggers.  I decided to keep harvesting and try to get back to town, knowing my success would be contingent on being able to RUN THE FUCK AWAY from any potential fights since I had sunk ALL of the survivalists points into resource harvesting.  I just barely made it and was able to sell off all the shit and revive my two bad asses.  Now to switch out the lumberjacks for the rest of my A-Team and whip some more ass!

Raoul, after you max your gathering abilities with your survivalists, you'll probably want to focus (with both) on the skill that increases your preemptive chance.  Also, if you're making a lumber co. of weaklings, I'd put the 1 pt into escape for each.  I hate wasting points on stuff that's not super essential, but it should reduce some of the headaches.  Also, stalker I believe is much better in this than the original and can really really reduce the chance of an encounter. 

Early on tho, all you can really do is throw all your points in gathering and hope for the best.  I'm sure you'll remember warp wires from now on :lol

Well, the sad thing is that I was only on the first floor AND I had sent along my two best damage dealers (Ronin hitting for about 45 and War Magus hitting for about 50 with her super staff and the town crown).  But that mutant flower just raped the shit out of them like it was nothing!  On the first floor, too.  smh.

I did invest in a bad ass bow (Hindi) for one of my survivalists, tho, so now one of them can deal some damage.

Fucking Furyhorns.  I could beat them fairly easily IF THEY DIDN'T USE GODDAMN STEP ON ME.  So it's time to fuck around with a gunner build that can bind those assholes and let my peoples do their thing.

Most of the powergaming, basement dwelling gamefaqs crowd seems to be using a party build that consists of War Magus/Dark Hunter/Hexer/Gunner and either a Ronin or Landsknecht.  The interplay between the War Magus/Dark Hunter/Hexer trio is supposed to be fuck awesome, allowing you to house bosses/FOEs.  The good news for me is that it would be fairly easy to sub out say Dark Hunter for Landsknecht and Hexer for Alchemist to use that build if necessary but I'm gonna continue to try and do my thing with my build.

game is amazing, confirmed better than EO1. All the extra touches are the icing on the cake eg. more mapping tools, stats show when buying gear etc.  Its definitely harder than the first, still havent gotten off 1f lol. Havent had a chance to have good session yet, hopefully I'll make some progress today

I've never used a bind on an enemy ever.  I always imagine those kind of skills always suck in RPGs on bosses...but if they actually work I might make a secondary party and give it a shot.

They're decent effects and can prevent high damage attacks from enemies. Dark Hunter has the bonus of that massive damage attack when the enemy is completely bound and her Force whatever binds stuff completely which can give one a turn or two to set up.

Yeah, DH are sickness incarnate later in the game.  Also, after looking askance at Troubadours as "fegs with lutes" for most of my playthrough, I noticed something interesting... when you're grinding, you want to maximize the xp you're getting and get as many encounters as possible.  The Fagadour does that for you!  The Divinity skill when maxed out gives your party 125% of the xp from battles, and the Danger skill increases the random encounter rate.  I wouldn't actually USE a Troubadour during my playthrough while exploring, but for grinding (especially in a four person party where you're trying to build one character up) the Troubadour is THE accessory to travel with. 

The game is actually pretty good at making you utilize lots of character classes- Troubadours for grinding, Survivalists for lumberjacking so you're not a filthy poor, Landsknechts for the early game and Dark Hunters/Hexers for the mid-late game.  I understand that they were pretty useful in the first game but I can't find a use for Protectors other than sucking and not dealing damage.  I want fights to be over as quick as possible, who gives a shit if Protectors can help prolong battles?  Fuck you buddy.

I'm toying with some beasts right now- Mange the Wolf, Colbert the Bear and Maurice the Stupid Panda.  There's just lots to DO in this game.  Totally my GOTY of 2008, even Fire Emblem DS which I plan on importing is gonna have a hard time unseating this.  But then again, there's always Viva Pinata portable, where I can finally realize my dreams of a forced communist utopia in which the unruly are bashed to death with a shovel and fed to their children.

yeah you can do that, but Ive got an old DS phat with limited battery life, cant leave it sleeping for too long I sohuld really upgrade to ds lite, but that costs $$$. i figure theres another redesign coming in the near future anyway  :P

okay advice time....

basically my party is getting completely shat on.

Im using front row Ronin, Landswhatever and War Magus

Back row Gunner and Medic

focusing all skill points on good offensive skills, I have a gathering team of survivalists so Im never short of cash and have the best equipment I can buy... but Im still making like, two steps worth of progress every time I head into the dungeon, theres just too many baddies that can one shot a character.... am I shit or is this game just tough as nails? I dont remember ever getting raped this hard in EO1.

any advice on War Magus builds or is it a turd class, I cant figure out what I should be spending points on really. I hear protectors suck in this game so I decided to give them a miss and instead go for all out offense
