If theres one thing MGS4 most certainly isnt, its ambiguous. Its like HK went out of his way to take any mystery out of the series by answering every last question he possibly could. More often than not, these explanations were really shitty.

Gameplay wise, this is not the best game of the year at all. Grand Theft Auto 4 has more gameplay in a third of it than the whole of MGS4, that's why it pisses me off when i read that official thread.

GTA continues to suffer from the same problems, however.  It has always offered MORE content than most games on the market, yet the core gameplay remains unrefined.  Many of the missions in GTAIV were pretty worthless as well.

I wouldn't suggest that MGS4 is GOTY or anything, but it's gameplay is pretty solid and well done even if there isn't as much of it as I'd like.

Anyone check out the MGS database thing on PSN?  I downloaded it but didn't care enough to look into it after it was done, which I kinda fault MGS4 for.  The past MGS games have had incredibly distinguished mentally-challenged stories but at least they SEEMED exciting or at least gave the impression that something was actually going on but with MGS4 by the time the ended and I cycled through the 2 prologues I was half asleep out of sheer boredom.  I think I'd rather have the craziness of MGS2 over that.

in the bonus dvd they said there were EIGHT HOURS of story scenes.  The game ended up taking me a little over 20 hours (and that was with a fair amount of continuing), so there was just a bit more gameplay than watching for me.  But of course, most of the gameplay happened at the start.

If where I think you are is correct, you can just crawl through the middle of that area without waking up either of the two Gekkos.

Unless you absolutely detest the story sequences up until this point, I don't see why you wouldn't at least want to see what happens for yourself.  At least the visuals will be spectacular.  If you've come that far, why not just see it through to the end?

I finished the game on Wednesday night.  Took me 20 hours and 30 minutes on the default difficulty setting.

This is the first MGS game I've ever finished.  I think that says a lot about the playability that this game brought to the franchise.  The gameplay in the previous games just had a clunkiness to it that bothered me, and MGS4 feels much less clunky.  Still not perfect, but much better. 

Loved the big set pieces that occured on a few occasions.  Loved the cut scenes and storytelling.  Loved the ability to go hardcore with a machine gun if I felt like it.  Loved the lighting and enviornmental effects that made the settings feel much more alive.  Loved the voice acting as always.  Love the conclusion of it all.


Didn't love some of the old archaic gameplay elements like "press triangle to press up against this wall".  Why can't I just press up against the effing wall like in every other modern game like this?  Didn't love some of the ending cut scenes that dragged on a bit too long.  You know which one I'm talking about.  Didn't like the

That's not actually "archaic" for this series, however.  This is the first time a Metal Gear game required you to press a button in order to lean against a wall.  A previous MGS games required you to press yourself against it manually, but it became difficult to use when you started to perform other actions on top of leaning.  Furthermore, pressing a button isn't exactly uncommon.  Gears of War, R6Vegas and Uncharted (just to name three) all require a button press if you wish to lean up against a wall.

What they should have done is a GRAW style wall hug.  That is a great system that would have worked well here.  Shooting from behind cover just didn't work well in MGS4.

just find one place to hide and let her come to you.  she'll be able to smell you downwind, and she'll come running.  pick off the other soldiers and when she gets close use the NV goggles to headshot her.  it only takes 4 hits to bring her down.
