i liked mgs3 as a sort of 7/10 diversion, but it had a nice emphasis on boss battles. however, i'm not sure i can endure any more goofball cutscenes and codec conversations and clumsy controls/menus. we'll see. after all, i'll clearly buy shitty j-rpgs at the drop of a hat, so it's not fair for me to act coy. then again, the mgs games aren't turn-based lightweight stat-a-thons, either, and have possibly even more intrusive "cinematic" elements. it'll probably be a $20 "jesus fuck i need to buy SOMETHING" purchase six months from now.

There's something incredibly attractive about the game, and its presentation, but I'm not sure I can just disregard having disliked MGS2 and 3, especially when the reasons that I disliked those games are not only still present, but allegedly they have been turned up to 11. I have the LE pre-ordered, but that's because I want the art book, and because I'm a sucker for cool Limited Editions. I have nearly no desire to actually play the game.

I'm a sucker for presentation. I own a ton of very rare ambient-industrial boxsets by artists I've never really liked, simply because I adore the presentation. At least those appreciate in monetary value over time, I doubt that will be true for this LE.

Buying it, but much like the last ultra-mega-super-hyped title GTAIV, I'm not going insane anticipating MGS4. I already watched a large chunk of the ending, too ...glad there's a pause function for cinemas, because HOLY SHIT people weren't lying about the ridiculous length.

Might order from Play-Asia, might try my luck in Tokyo. I dunno yet.

Hell, I never played much of MGS2 beyond the Tanker chapter, and I'm only halfway done with MGS3. I really shouldn't even bother with MGS4 yet, but I know I can't resist purchasing it. $:-\$

I'm kinda going the other way. I got NG 2 last week and barely had any time to put into it, so my semi-desire to see how MGS turned out is waning day by day. I may just wait and rent, or pick it up used down the road.

As it stands, I'm a longtime fan of the series but its hard to justify $500 for one game

I may just be patient and play the MGS4 360 lottery. I've done pretty well for myself so far.
