god help me, waggle improved something
« on: June 10, 2008, 12:25:00 AM »
re4. i am actually sorta kinda enjoying it now that i don't hafta use the gamepube's godawful notched analog stick to aim, nor am i forced to play button twister with the shitty controls. it's like a little zombie shooting gallery every time i hit the b button. yay! dunno if it'll make the ashley sections any more palatable, but so far, i'm zoomin' right along, headshotting like a mofo.

man, though, talk about some stank ps2-grade image quality. ah well, i needed a little last-gen gaming to remind me how fuck awesome re5 -- note: NOT ON WII -- will be!

Yeah, the aiming made an excellent game even better. The ashley sections are better as well now that you're a quick draw killing machine so she's never in any danger.
Also, I don't know what black magic they used with the quick knife attack but it always hit whatever I intended.

it's not so much the shooting that made the ashley sections annoying, it's just that i have a major aversion to anything resembling an ai escort mission.

the downside is that it makes it a little easier.  it was still nearly impossible for me to beat it on Pro though.

You don't use the C-Stick to aim in the GC version.  ???

EDIT: Besides, aiming with the IR isn't "waggle."

Wonder if theres a roadie run too

So it's not waggle then, since it uses a NEXT-GEN controller and not shitty button mashy mashy casual controls.  :-*

there is no such thing as a "next-gen" controller

only the subtly evolving dual analog pads and dead-end novelty controllers

"next-gen" is a term only applied to graphics platforms

I don't know, man. I really think Nintendo hit it right. Not necessarily with the motion sensing (it's far too sensitive to obstructions, for one), but by splitting the controller into two separate pieces. Nothing new really for us who favor keyboard and mouse for select game types, but it's a great solution for a home console.

Fighting IT and realizing you can't reload and move simultaneously caused me to fight that guy a total of 5 times. On the cliffside with his lobster claws? You were given a whopping 2 feet of distance between you and him, and I couldn't reload and move. Smh.

I was in a similar boat, and wasn't sure if I'd want to play RE4 yet again in spite of how much I loved it.  Then I received RE4 Wii as a gift - and I realised I was crazy not to get it sooner.

I don't think you'll regret it if you do pick it up.

He always wanted Drinky to be his nemesis on GAF, unfortunately Drinky owned him so hard the first time he tried, no one ever took his jabs seriously again.

I give him credit for even trying, though.

I remember now. I like him as a poster but he has a nasty habit of trying to build an archnemesis.

On the upside, Prole, you could always argue that the original control scheme was so far in the dumps that the Wii had nowhere to take it but up.

how does motion sensing make games less obscure and more accessible?   doesn't adding more independently sensed axes allow designers to make control schemes MORE complex, sophisticated and esoteric than before?  I've never understood how 10 or 11DOF is supposed to be simpler than 4DOF.

because it isn't sensitive or effective enough to make that freedom usable in a gaming context

hence we are given "aim" and "waggle" and 40% less buttons and the opportunity to provide the gestural controls that entice shitty non-gamers into the hobby instead of the alienating orthodoxy of cold hard inhuman button presses and thumbstick actions

i could never grok the gc controls, with all the trigger holding and then slow aiming and then pressing another button and argh. i got about halfway through the game and said NOT FUN. DUAL STICKS PLEASE.

with the wii, i just headshot/legshot through everything, and then throw a bunch of boots to ganado heads, next area, rinse and repeat

wii version has worse image quality than the ps2 version, though, which is quite an accomplishment

and aiiieeee the textures :-X

So does the GameCu *coughs* Wii.

It has to do with the Wii's video output, which is even worse than the GCN, apparently.

Its not like a lightgun very much at all.
Lets say nunchuck setup was standard. Dpad, 1, and 2 buttons removed. Replaced with 4 button diamond and the b trigger. Accelerometers removed. IR remains. Call it a potential new xbox controller.

Whats objectionable? Why would you opt for no ir with this hypothetical controller?
