As much as I enjoyed Portal, I would like to see what Valve does in HL3 (or ep. 3) in terms of combining gameplay elements from both games.

There is a HL2 mod that does just that and while it has its share of problems it is a blast to play.

I'd like to think so, but I guess Valve deems HL a more valuable IP and will use Portal as a testbed for mixing both types of gameplay. The lessons learned from a Portal game with shooter elements would be taken into account when making the next HL.

When they say sidekick -> antagonist, that's basically the exact same thing that glados did in the first one.
